In this chapter, Cyborg will encounter an old friend.
You probably remember her.
She could probably be a rock star if you wanted to. Heh heh.
Chapter 18: Terraific
"It's nice going for a refreshing walk…" noted Cyborg.
There wasn't anyone doing evil at the moment. When there wasn't any villains around, he could do whatever he wanted basically.
However, he suddenly encountered a familiar face.
"Terra, is that you?" asked the young man.
She was sitting on a bench…at least, that's what Cyborg thought.
"I'm not sure what you're talking about." answered Terra.
"Do you not remember me?" questioned Cyborg.
He was under the impression she would at least try to.
"I think I would remember a guy that looked like a robot." noted the girl. Hopefully, Cyborg had never been mistaken for a vending machine.
You don't see people like him every day.
No sirree.
"I really stick out from the crowd, don't I?" asked the teenage boy.
"You sure do." nodded Terra. Everyone else was a bit more…squishy.
Cyborg wondered if this was a case of mistaken identity.
But on the other hand, it seemed Terra would want to start a new life after everything that had happened.
Ironically, Slade had also started a new one…because of Trigon. Though Trigon was gone for good…at least, they hoped he was gone for good.
Suddenly, Overload showed up.
He was on his way to the local power plant.
It wasn't anyone's guess as to what his intentions were.
"Uh-oh, it's him again." noted Cyborg.
He and his friends encountered him more than once. So it wasn't a huge shock to him…ironically.
Unfortunately, he was now all alone this time.
His teammates were elsewhere. Even if he seemed fair to take him on one on one.
Luckily, there was a fire hydrant he could use.
He used it to blast Overload with water.
But this didn't work too well this time.
"I don't get it…that worked before." noted Cyborg.
Had things changed all of a sudden?
"I found a way to convert water into electricity." explained Overload.
"There's a way to do that?" asked the boy.
"Yeah, there is." nodded Terra.
Unfortunately, by that logic, water wouldn't work anymore. Some villains learned from their mistakes.
Cyborg tried using his arm blaster, but it only made Overload grow bigger.
"I'm making the problem worse, aren't I?" asked the boy.
"You sure are." nodded Overload.
"Wait, maybe my freeze ray will w-"
Cyborg was cut off when suddenly he was blasted with electricity.
"Sometimes I hate being partly made of metal." noted the boy. It put him at a disadvantage when you were up against someone like Overload. Though he didn't recall the last time that he had encountered someone that wielded a giant magnet.
"It does have its perks." remarked Terra. Cyborg did wipe the floor with an evil Beast Boy, after all. He simply could not bite through the metal.
"I'm sending you straight to the scrapyard." said Overload.
He prepared to launch another burst of electricity.
However, something unexpected happened.
Terra went in front of Cyborg and held out her arms.
"I can't let you do that." spoke the earthbender.
He was curious. This girl (assuming she wasn't who she thought she was) was remarkably brave.
"You're going to protect him? So be it." answered Overload.
He zapped her with electricity…
…but this did not work.
"Huh. I guess having power over earth has its perks…did I say that out loud?" asked Terra.
"Are you really sure you're not who I think you are?" questioned Cyborg.
"Alright, maybe I am." nodded the girl.
Overload wondered why that didn't work. Something about power over earth?
However, he was then hit with a boulder.
"Ow!" exclaimed Overload.
"Trying to zap Cyborg? I don't think so." answered Terra.
Unfortunately, it seemed he was at a serious disadvantage against his opponent.
Electricity did not work well against someone who could manipulate earth.
Terra launched a mud wave at Overload.
"Aaaarrrghhh!" exclaimed the elemental.
She then hit him with a rock pillar, and all that was left of him was his face.
"Great job, Terra!" cheered Cyborg.
"Thanks." answered Terra.
"But wait, how did you remove Slade's suit? It was kind of…attached tight." asked the mechanical genius.
"I guess Slade's absence helped with that." noted the girl. Personally she wasn't one to question something she liked. That suit gave her bad memories. It made her feel like she was at the mercy of the Puppet King.
"I imagine it would. He's back now though." spoke the man.
"Aw man! Was my sacrifice for nothing?" asked Terra.
She pouted.
"Well, it wasn't your fault that Trigon brought him back." answered Cyborg.
"Trigon? As in Trigon the Terrible?" questioned the girl.
"You've heard of him?" asked the…cyborg.
"Yes, I have. I've heard all sorts of scary stories about him." noted Terra. Stories that would keep you awake at night, in fact.
"You think any of those stories are true?" asked Cyborg.
"Probably. They say he's the most evil bad guy ever." remarked the girl.
"I know what you mean. I've met the guy." answered the mechanic.
"And you survived?" asked Terra. He was extremely lucky if he was. They said he had killed millions.
"You can thank Raven for that." noted Cyborg.
"Yeah. Both of us had trouble controlling our powers, didn't we?" questioned the girl.
"It's true. You seem to be in complete control of it now though." admitted the boy.
"If there's anything good that came out of my sacrifice, it's that it's made it a heck of a lot easier to control my powers." noted Terra.
"That's good. But weren't you turned into a statue?" asked Cyborg.
"It wore off." explained the girl.
"OK, great." nodded the teenage boy.
"I can't simply waltz into the tower and pretend like nothing happened though." admitted Terra.
"I know what you mean." agreed Cyborg.
"I wouldn't mind hanging out with you, I suppose." noted the earthbender.
"Sounds good." noted the boy.
"I happen to know a beach…that isn't exactly crowded." remarked Terra.
For some strange reason, Cyborg heard Ben and Starfire laughing hysterically.
What was going on?
Meanwhile…
"Hmm, tickling you doesn't seem to be working the way I hoped." noted Gizmo.
"I guess not." answered Ben.
"No matter, I got another idea." said the mean boy.
"What is that?" asked Starfire.
Using the hands, he forced Ben and Starfire to kiss each other.
Both of their eyes widened with surprise…though Starfire's eyes were already kind of wide to begin with.
"Hahahahahaha! Now you'll have cooties forever!" exclaimed Gizmo.
Ben's face turned red.
"Are you alright?" asked Starfire.
"Yeah, I think so." nodded the boy.
"Good." answered the alien.
"I didn't think that my first kiss was going to be from an alien." remarked Ben.
"If it makes you feel better, I think it should be easier to speak English now." answered Starfire.
"Really?" asked the boy.
"Mm-hmm. I'm careful not to kiss people without permission though. Even if it makes learning languages easier." stated the girl.
"That's good to hear." nodded Ben.
"Darn it! Why aren't my attempts to torment you two working?!" exclaimed Gizmo.
"What's this about tormenting my friends?" asked Cyborg.
As it turned out, he had discovered what the tech wizard had been doing.
"Uh-oh." spoke the mean boy.
Suddenly, Gizmo found himself being blasted by Cyborg's arm cannon.
"Ow!" exclaimed the evil tech wizard.
"Serves you right." spoke Cyborg.
"Reinforcements, huh? No matter, I can still win this! After all, I know a thing or two about mach-"
Suddenly, Gizmo found himself stuck in sand up to his elbows.
Courtesy of Terra, naturally.
"I can't help but find this ironic." noted Ben.
"You think he'll enjoy it as much as I do?" asked Starfire.
"Well, it does feel nice." nodded the boy.
He couldn't help but chuckle at his expense.
"Wait…Terra? Is that you?" asked Starfire.
"Um, hi?" answered Terra.
"I'd give you a hug if I weren't buried in this sand castle." remarked the girl from outer space.
"But you have bone-crushing hugs." pointed out the earthbender.
"Yeah…I do." nodded Starfire.
"Well, I'll probably be fine. The earth is resilient, after all." noted Terra.
She snapped her fingers and Ben and Starfire were released from the sand castle.
"That was fun while it lasted!" exclaimed Starfire.
"I could have done with a little less tickling, but I agree." answered Ben.
"Where's Mammoth when I need him?!" exclaimed Gizmo. He could really use his help right now.
He was nearby, eating a cheeseburger.
And drinking a soda to go with it.
"I'm glad you guys are…forgiving." noted Terra. She hadn't fully forgiven herself yet.
Nearby, Michael Morningstar had witnessed Ben kissing Starfire…unaware of the context.
"My plan might be more complicated than I thought…" noted the sociopath. It looked like he was going to have to get rid of Ben before he went after the alien.
But at least he had found the book nearby.
Luckily, a dark room wasn't an obstacle when you had powers like he did.
Meanwhile…
"You're going down!" exclaimed Thumbskull.
Raven blasted him with her magic.
"Oof!" shouted the thug.
However, she then found herself being wrapped up by Frightwig's hair.
"Hey!" exclaimed Raven.
"You're mine now!" shouted Frightwig.
Suddenly, she began to feel a bit…hot.
Her foe's hair then caught on fire.
"Aaah! Put it out! Put it out!" bellowed the circus girl.
"I can do that? Well, my creator is a giant demon…" noted Raven.
It shouldn't be too surprising.
She had gotten a new power a while ago, so it wasn't happening too fast for her.
Her fire was blue though.
"How do I fight these guys? The room is pitch black!" exclaimed Beast Boy.
He wasn't sure how Raven read like that. Did she have a flashlight?
Although, Thumbskull seemed to be having a hard time hitting him for this reason.
"Have you tried morphing into a jaguar or something like that? They tend to do their hunting at night." noted Raven.
Beast Boy decided to do that.
"Huh. This is a lot easier now." noted BB. It seemed that cats had a night vision of sorts.
"I figured it would." answered Raven.
Beast Boy attacked Acid Breath.
"Ow! Quit using me as a scratching post!" exclaimed the acid spewer.
Raven then tossed a fireball at Thumbskull.
"My mother told me not to play with fire, but I'm not playing with it." noted the girl.
"Owww!" exclaimed the man.
"I'm really at a disadvantage against someone who can manipulate fire, aren't I?" questioned Frightwig.
"I guess you kind of are." answered Raven.
"You're in a hairy situation!" exclaimed Beast Boy.
Suddenly, Frightwig slapped him with her hair.
"Ow!" shouted the boy.
"It would be best if you didn't taunt these guys." advised Raven.
"Agreed!" nodded Beast Boy.
He noticed that Acid Breath was about to spew acid.
Quickly, he morphed into a rhino and charged towards his foe.
Since Raven was bonded to him, she ended up on top of him.
"This is going to be a bit of a bumpy ride…but I think I can handle it." noted the girl.
Beast Boy charged towards Acid Breath…he heard the stampeding, but he didn't notice until it was too late.
"Yeowww!" exclaimed Acid Breath.
"Maybe we should turn on the light?" asked Frightwig.
"But I don't see a light switch anywhere!" exclaimed Thumbskull.
Beast Boy transformed into a gorilla and punched Thumbskull in the face.
He fell to the ground.
"Oh…no…" spoke Frightwig.
She attempted to wrap up Beast Boy…
…only to get attacked by Raven, who had shapeshifted into a phoenix.
Unfortunately, Frightwig was down for the count as well. She just couldn't take the heat.
"I think it would be best if I retreated…" noted Acid Breath.
"It's probably for the best." agreed Raven.
Acid Breath retreated, carrying Thumbskull and Frightwig with him.
"We won!" exclaimed Beast Boy.
"We can watch TV now, I suppose." answered Raven.
"Hooray!" shouted the boy.
The two decided to do that.
However, there was a package on the table.
"Who could this be for?" asked Beast Boy.
As it turned out, it was for him.
"For Garfield Logan…I told them not to use my real name!" exclaimed the animal shapeshifter.
"Your real name is…Garfield?" asked Raven.
She tried to hold in her laughter, and failed.
"Wait, all I had to do to make you laugh was tell you my first name? Maybe I was trying too hard…" answered Beast Boy.
Raven lied on her stomach, banging the ground with her fist.
"Are you alright? This must be a new experience for you." spoke BB.
"I'm dohohohohohoing grheheheheheheheat!" exclaimed Raven.
"Are you sure? Losing control over your emotions is a bit of a problem…" noted Garfield.
"I'll be fine." answered the girl.
A lightbulb broke…but it seemed that Raven was still in control otherwise.
"All of a sudden, I'm really happy to have met you." noted the girl.
"You always seemed annoyed by my jokes." spoke Beast Boy.
"Well, maybe you need to be a bit more creative." answered Raven.
"Maybe I do." nodded the boy.
"But seriously, that felt awesome." spoke the girl.
"I'm glad you took that well." answered BB.
"I guess I did." nodded Raven.
"It's getting late…but how are we going to sleep?" asked Beast Boy. Neither of them were really interested in staying in each other's rooms.
"We can use the couch. And in case this is too embarrassing for you…I have blindfolds." explained the girl.
"OK, great!" exclaimed BB.
The two of them lied down on the couch.
"Alright, here they a-"
As it turned out, Beast Boy had fallen asleep.
"That was fast." noted the girl.
She had to admit, he was cute while he slept.
But it was time for her to go to sleep herself.
She knew that the bonding spell would wear off soon.
Who would have thought that it would make her life better?
Meanwhile…
"It looks like Mumbo is up to his old tricks. His magic tricks…" spoke Robin.
Indeed, he was counting how much money he had stolen.
"Would you like some help?" asked Gwen.
"Are you sure? I don't want him to trap you in a water tank…you're not Aqualad so that could be the end of you." noted the boy.
"Well, I did help you with Mad Mod. And I think I know a thing or two about magic." remarked the magical girl.
"I think I see your point." nodded Robin.
"Besides, it would probably be best if you didn't take him on alone." advised Gwen.
Somebody with Mumbo's magical talent could be dangerous.
Though something told her that fighting Mumbo was safer than fighting Ourabora. Mumbo didn't like to prolong people's suffering.
"Alright then." agreed the boy.
Making new friends had its perks.
So they decided to confront him together.
Mumbo spotted them.
"A good magician never reveals his secrets…but it's no secret as to who's going to win this fight!" exclaimed the magician.
"Don't be so sure. I've beaten you before, and I can do it again!" shouted Robin.
"Besides, he's not fighting alone!" shouted Gwen.
"Good. That makes it twice as fun for me!" exclaimed Mumbo.
He snapped his fingers, and a giant lottery machine appeared.
"What is that?" asked Gwen.
"Just something that will make it a bit easier for me to decide how to fight you." said the magician.
He pulled the lever on the lottery machine.
"We should probably pay attention as to what it lands on." noted the magical girl.
"I'm inclined to agree." nodded Robin.
And so Terra has returned.
Were you expecting her?
And yes, I figured giving Raven power over fire would be appropriate.
