Lyra Madrigal
Background: Lyra is the eldest daughter of Dolores and Mariano and the eldest great-grandchild in the Madrigal family.
Personality: Her mother describes her as a born performer because after she learned to talk, she learned to sing and was dancing not long after she started walking. Her father also affectionately calls her their "pequeña musica," their little musician. Lyra often walks with a spring in her step and enjoys any opportunity to dance while doing other things like chores or playing with her family. She is very outgoing and will occasionally indulge in being the centre of attention but does want others to join in her performances to share the joy.
Lyra gets along well with all her siblings. Being the eldest, she is seen as more mature than her siblings and cousins, taking on the role of leader amongst the Madrigal children. She often tries to discourage her brothers, cousins, and sister from getting into trouble. She enjoys how much her twin brothers Santino and Emiliano make her laugh, she watches out and protects her sister Delfina and adores her baby brother Matias, often creating lullabies to help him sleep.
Due to her power involving music, Lyra is closer to her mother than her father. The two often work together to create beautiful sounds and music together. Lyra also has a close relationship with her great-uncle Agustín, who plays the piano and whom she credits for introducing her to music because he would often play it for her and her siblings. She has begun helping her Uncle Camilo with his shows, composing the perfect music for his performances.
Appearance: Lyra is a 9-year-old Columbian girl with beautiful black curls pulled back into a small bun tied with an orange bow. She has brown eyes and a dark complexion. She strongly resembles her mother in facial features including a button nose and petite ears. She is tall for her age and often goes barefoot around the house to allow her to feel the vibrations and rhythms around her. She wears a dress that is a light shade of orange. The upper part of her dress is almost a faded peach colour, while her skirt resembles the orange of a sunset. At the waist of her dress, she has a belt with five black lines that resemble a music bar and the buckle of her belt is a treble clef. She wears the buckle to the side against her hip. The hem of her skirt is embroidered with various musical notes and symbols associated with music. Lyra also wears a necklace that has a gold chain and a simple musical note with an orange opal in the centre.
Powers and Abilities: Lyra's gift is being able to perform magical feats using music and use magic to create music. She has a beautiful singing voice that sounds appealing to everyone who hears. She can manipulate objects around her to create tunes and music (Casita enjoys helping her with this) and she can control instruments without needing to touch them. Like Abeula Pepa, her music will reflect her mood and emotions, but Lyra has much more control over it. She also has a keen ear for music, which has been helped by her mother.
Lyra's door has an image of herself holding a harp and tiple (small guitar) while surrounded by musical notes and musical symbols. The interior of her room contains many musical instruments and it is shaped like a concert hall to allow for great acoustics and sound verberation.
Besides her gift, Lyra can play multiple musical instruments such as the piano (she began receiving lessons from her great-uncle before her gift), the mandolin, the tiple and the guitar, the flute, and the accordion (thanks to Mirabel).
Lyra dreams of being a singer and touring beyond the family's Encanto.
