Chapter 2 The Arrival.
In the mist of the valley's shrouded atmosphere, a solitary traveler ambles forth with a heavy heart, ruminating on the circumstances that led him to this place. The narrow path ahead of him leads to the Jade Mountain, a place familiar and yet steeped in nostalgia for this weary soul. He cannot fathom the depths of the human greed that has wrought devastation upon this place, and yet he is powerless to reverse the course of events. Despair grips him tightly, his mind twisted with ideas that border on criminality, but he knows that such solutions would be futile.
As he approaches his destination, he climbs the highest point of the mountain, and takes in the breathtaking view before him. The night skies are clear, and mystical dragons soar in the distance, their wings cutting through the air like a sharp knife.
"It had to be this place," he whispers to himself, knowing that this was where he had spent countless hours forging his reputation as a PVP master. This area was one of the many within the confines of Yggdrasil, a virtual game that was home to the Hel world, and was only open to those who had conquered the treacherous underworld raid dungeon of Hel. This was the battleground for the most skilled and ruthless PVP players in all of Yggdrasil, but now it lay abandoned, a ghostly remnant of a world that had passed into oblivion.
The emptiness of the once vibrant and bustling PVP zone stands as a solemn reminder of the world that has been left behind, as the denizens of Yggdrasil have bid farewell to the world they had all come to love.
In a matter of minutes, the very essence of his being was set to be extinguished. The life that had brought him such joy and respite from the stresses of reality was about to be snuffed out. This place, once a sanctuary, a safe haven from the harsh realities of life. Now stirred something dark and twisted within him. The emotions he felt were not those of a mere mortal, but rather a deep-seated hatred for the sins of humanity.
Despite his seething rage, he remained true to his character, reaching into his inventory to retrieve a cache of fireworks, the last vestige of innocence and purity within his possession. He ignited them with a flick of his wrist, causing them to explode in a brilliant display of color and light, aimed at bringing a final smile to the faces of any spectators who may be watching.
As he began to count down, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2...1, everything went black. And then, slowly, the light began to filter through his eyelids, forcing him to open his eyes to an unfamiliar landscape. Trees towered around him, their leaves casting a dappled shade across the forest floor. The sun's rays pierced the canopy like a thousand arrows, illuminating his surroundings with a warm glow.
But confusion quickly set in, as he realized that the disconnect option was not responding. All social communication channels had been blocked long ago, leaving him stranded and alone. With no other option but to venture forth into this strange place, he began to search the area for any signs of help or guidance. In a flash, he realized that he was no longer in a place that he knew. Desperation coursed through him as he flew faster and faster, searching for any sign of familiarity. As he descended into a nearby path, hoping to glean some information about his whereabouts or a sense of direction, he found himself met with silence. There were no indicators or signs to guide him, no hints or clues to the world that he found himself in.
For a moment, he sat there, hoping that someone would come by and offer him some answers, but as time ticked by, he began to feel a growing sense of unease. Something was off, he realized, his point of view slightly narrowed, and the info icons that were once visible are now gone.
Fueled by fear, he began to test his body, attempting movements that were previously impossible. To his shock and amazement, everything moved as naturally as it would in the real world. He raised his hand and spoke a command, "Firebolt Lv 4," and in an instant, the magic activated, causing a massive explosion that reverberated through the air. The intense heat that followed was palpable, and as he looked on, he watched as the tree he had aimed at came crashing down, blocking the path behind him.
As he cursed the developers of this glitching game, his anger boiled over and he lashed out with a fierce kick, raising a thick cloud of dust that swirled around him. But his fury was short-lived, as a strange sound caught his attention - the steady thud of something approaching. Intrigued, he darted behind a tree to investigate. What he saw next left him reeling. A carriage was hurtling towards him at breakneck speed, its horses straining at the reins, while a group of eight heavily armed men rode behind it. The carriage was battered and dented, with arrows sticking out from its sides. The man realized that the tree he was hiding behind was blocking the path of the carriage, causing the driver to desperately try and stop the horses. But it was too late - one of the bandits had already drawn his bow and let loose an arrow that struck the driver in the throat, killing him instantly.
The creature watched in shock as the scene unfolded before him. He couldn't fathom how such a violent, gruesome act could take place in a game like Yggdrasil. The bandits were clearly robbing the carriage, and as they surrounded it, a nobleman emerged with a sword in hand. A woman and a little boy ran towards the woods, but were quickly cut off by one of the bandits on horseback. The nobleman bravely charged at the bandit, but was swiftly impaled from behind with a spear. As he lay dying, he whispered a final plea to the woman to run with the boy. The woman screamed in anguish as her lover, passed away before her eyes.
The bandits laughed and jeered as they decided what to do with the woman and child. The leader quickly made the call to kill the boy and take the woman as their captive. The being could barely watch as one of the bandits drew a knife to end the boy's life. But as the sun began to die, a dark mist enveloped the area, causing the bandits to huddle together back-to-back in a desperate attempt to defend themselves. The couple, woman and the boy, fell to the ground, helpless against the darkness. As the mist thickened, the bandit closest to the family suddenly lost his head, sending his body hurtling towards the circle of bandits.
The dark knight emerged from his hiding place, activating his "Shadow Mist Lv3" ability to strike down the bandits one by one. A bloodlust took over him, as the sinners their crimes must pay, he sliced his sword through their flesh, his "Flame Pillar Lv2" and "Sharp Blade Lv5" abilities leaving nothing but charred remains in their wake. The air filled with the stench of death, the man's anger and disgust fueling his ferocity. The woman and child cried out in prayer, trembling in fear at the sight of this unknown creature.
The mother and child were left alone, crying and trembling with fear. But suddenly, the boy stood up, picking up a stone from the ground and shouting at the creature to stay back. The creature was filled with frustration - he knew he didn't belong in this world, trapped in the body of a monster. He couldn't help the humans, nor did he want to. With a heavy heart, he decided to leave them behind and vanish from the scene, leaving the mother and son to their fate.
As the sun began to set, the creature realized that he was in a precarious situation. His mind raced as he considered his options. He knew that he needed to find a place to rest, but he also knew that he needed to avoid any human or monster that might be lurking in the shadows.
His eyes scanned the horizon, searching for any signs of shelter. It was then that he noticed a distant mountain, looming like a shadow in the twilight. As he approached, he realized that there was a cave nestled deep within the rocky terrain. It was dark and foreboding, but it offered a haven from the perils of the land.
The traveler made his way into the cave, his senses heightened by the lack of light and the dampness of the air. He set about making the cave his home, hunting the creatures that dwelt within and cleaning up the debris that had accumulated over time.
Days turned to weeks, and the creature settled into his new life. He knew that he needed to gather information if he was to have any hope of surviving in this harsh world.
As he sat in the darkness of the cave, he thought about the villagers he had seen in the distance. They were human, like he previously was, but he had seen the fear in their eyes when they caught sight of him. He knew that he needed to learn more about them if he was to survive.
For days on end, he observed the villagers from afar, learning about their daily routines and their way of life. He listened to their conversations, but they spoke only of mundane topics, like work and food. He knew that he needed more, His only chance was to wait for passing merchants, who might bring news from the outside world as the villagers said, that he needed to find a way to get closer to them. And so, he remained in the cave, biding his time, waiting for the passing merchants who might bring him the information he so desperately needed.
As the sun set behind the mountains, the creature felt his patience slowly fading away into oblivion. The isolation of this place was taking a toll on his sanity, and he could feel his grip on reality slipping away with each passing day. It was then that he remembered a heinous act, one that shook him to the core. He had killed a group of bandits without an ounce of remorse, and in that moment he felt a rush of pleasure and excitement that he had never experienced before. He couldn't comprehend what was happening to him, as his mind was plagued with thoughts and emotions that he couldn't understand.
As he grinded his teeth into a twisted smile, the creature realized that the monster within him was taking over, corrupting his thoughts and desires. He knew that he was no longer the person he once was, and the realization sent a chill down his spine. But as he pondered the question of who the real monster was - the sinners or the punisher - a macabre laugh escaped from his lips. The feelings that consumed him were too powerful to ignore, and he accepted them with open arms.
The cave echoed with the sound of his laughter, as the creature embraced the darkness that now resided within him. He knew that there was no going back from this, but he couldn't bring himself to care. All that mattered now was the thrill of the hunt, the rush of the kill, and the satisfaction of inflicting pain upon his prey.
