Anzu had been walking to school with Yugi since grade school. It wasn't just because they were friends; Yugi needed her, or else, he'd get lost. In Yugi's own words, he's directionally challenged – meaning, he gets lost easily and doesn't know how to get to the final destination no matter where he is. Every morning, he'd wait for Anzu at her doorstep. It wasn't hard for him to get to Anzu's house since she lived almost next door.
But not this morning.
Yugi was nowhere to be seen.
That made Anzu agitated. Don't tell me…
She ran to Yugi's house and knocked on the door. The game shop was downstairs and Yugi lived upstairs with his family. She peeked through the window and saw nobody in there.
So Kaiba left?
Would that be a good thing or a bad thing?
She took out her phone and tried to call Yugi, but he didn't answer.
Finally, the door opened. Solomon greeted her with a few yawns. "Thanks for coming by. My alarm clock was off."
"Where's Yugi?"
"He's not with you?" Solomon was surprised.
"No, and Kabia's gone too."
Solomon looked around. "You're right."
"I don't like this," Anzu was a bit frightened. "I hope that Kaiba didn't take Yugi somewhere against his will. Should we call the police?"
"No, let's not go there," Solomon said. "I don't believe Kaiba is that stupid. Yugi probably headed to school himself. Now, I know he's directionally challenged, and when he gets lost or nervous, he can't stop coughing, loud enough for the whole Domino to hear. But I think after he completed the puzzle last night, he gained a new boost of confidence."
"Really?" Anzu asked.
"Of course. Look, I appreciate how you've been protecting and taking care of my grandson. But he can't depend on you forever. I have to say, if he walked to school and came home all on his own today, I'm giving everyone a huge discount on all the game cards!"
Anzu nodded. She bidded Solomon goodbye and headed to school.
But Yugi wasn't at school that day, or at least Anzu didn't see him.
"Hey, have you guys seen Yugi today?" She asked Jonouchi and Honda at the cafeteria during lunch break.
"I haven't," Jonouchi said. "He's not sick, is he?"
"No," Anzu said. "I was at his house this morning. He wasn't there."
"Wait, Yugi went off somewhere on his own?" Honda exclaimed in disbelief. "Isn't he regionally challenged?"
"No, he's directionally challenged," Anzu corrected him.
"You're both wrong," Jonouchi said. "Yuge is geographically challenged."
"Okay, regardless, I'm worried. Where could he be?"
"Do you think Kaiba kidnapped him?" Honda asked.
"That's what I thought," Anzu replied. "But would Kaiba really go that far? Just for a stupid game card?"
"To anyone else it's just a card," Jonouchi pointed out. "But to that Kaiba, it's different."
"So, what you are saying is," Honda began his assumption. "Last night, Kaiba decided that he had enough. He went to Yugi's room and pulled him out of his bed. He took him somewhere and held him against his will. Kaiba gives Yugi an ultimatum, duel me or else. Poor Yugi, even if he escapes, it won't help him much because he's regionally or geographically challenged. He had to duel Kaiba. As usual, whenever he's nervous, he coughs. Eventually, Kaiba had enough of his coughing–"
After a long moment of silence, the three announced in unison.
"WE'LL CALLING THE POLICE!"
The three ended up not calling the police, however. First, who would make the call? And second, what would they tell the police authority?
We like to report a missing person case.
Yugi Muto, he's sixteen and geographically challenged.
He's kidnapped by Seto Kaiba. Yes – that Seto Kaiba, the CEO of Kaiba Corporation.
Why? Because he wants Yugi to play the Duel Monster card game with him.
Do we have any evidence? Nope.
Do we think it makes sense for the whole police squat to appear before Kaiba Corporation to tell Seto Kaiba to release Yugi Muto and find something else to do? Uhm…no.
They agreed not to go crazy about this and who knows? Maybe Yugi was fine.
That's what Anzu hoped for when she walked home from her ballet practice. She checked her phone and found Yugi hadn't replied to her texts.
Was Yugi upset with her?
Maybe, or maybe not.
Sooner or later, they'd go their separate ways. Anzu wanted to study ballet in Europe. Yugi had expressed that he wants to stay in Domino and focus on game design. Perhaps after he completed that millennium puzzle he did find new confidence in himself. After all, he couldn't be that little boy who needs someone to walk him home forever.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" A stranger sneered, interrupted her thoughts.
"What do you want?" Anzu showed no fear.
"Stay quiet," the man moved closer to her. "Or you'll regret it. I like your pretty legs."
Immediately, Anzu ran for her life, but only to be surrounded by more thugs. They looked dangerous and she was cornered.
"You are not going to get away with this," Anzu warned them.
"A weakling like you has no right to say that," one of the thugs said.
Without a warning, Anzu kicked him in the guts and bit his arm.
"Damn you!" The thug punched her in the nose, hard.
She felt dizzy and the world was turning black.
No, I cannot let them hurt me like this. I have to fight back. Help…
She fell unconscious on the ground.
By the time she came to, she found herself in a limousine, wrapped in a white trench coat. Her nose was sore and was bleeding.
"Anzu-san, you're alright!" A ten year-old boy greeted her. He handed her a tissue.
Rubbing her eyes, Anzu saw that she was sitting next to a tall, slender man. Initially, she thought it was her attacker, but then she realized it was something she knew.
Wait, isn't he Seto Kaiba?
Indeed, the boy in front of her must be his younger brother. Yugi did mention that Kaiba has a younger brother.
"No one gets away from messing up with me or mine," Kaiba said coldly, clenching his fists.
Anzu looked down at his trench coat. There were some dirty spots. She guessed that Kaiba happened to be nearby and the thugs were trying to hurt him too. Obviously, Kaiba was pissed that they tried to mess up with him and dirtied his fancy trench coat.
The car stopped in front of Anzu's house.
Quickly Anzu got out of the car and ran into her house.
"Anzu, what happened?" Her mother was concerned upon seeing her bloodied nose; her father was shocked too.
Unexpectedly, Kaiba had followed her inside.
"Your daughter was attacked by some low, dirty criminals," Kaiba told them. "You shouldn't have let her walk home on her own. It was I, Seto Kaiba, who saved her."
"Oh, thank you," Anzu's mother was beyond grateful.
"Mr. Seto Kaiba," Anzu's father shook his hand. "We can't thank you enough"
"Funny you said that," Kaiba chuckled with his arms folded. "Since I'm the one who saved your daughter's life, by the rules, she is mine!"
"WHAT?" Anzu couldn't believe her ears.
"You don't have the right to deny me," Kaiba said matter-of-factly. "In card games, the loser forfeit his best card to the winner. Since I defeated these thugs, you are rightfully mine."
"How dare you treat me like an object!" Anzu was offended.
"Calm down honey," her mother tried to comfort her.
"How else are you going to repay me?" Kaiba demanded, looking at Anzu's father. "Your daughter has never lost a card game. I can never believe that I can find another player worthy of me."
Indeed, Kaiba was telling the truth. Anzu did play duel monsters several times and never lost. Mostly, she played against Jonouchi, who was a total amateur at the time.
"Enough! My daughter is not for sale!" Anzu's father was angry. "Get out of my house!"
Kaiba opened his suitcase, filled with duel monster cards.
"Mr. Mazaki, I'll trade all these rare cards for your daughter, Anzu!"
Anzu's father dismissed it without a hesitation. "Have you lost your mind?"
"If you don't want these cards, name your price! I'll pay whatever you want!"
"Once again, my daughter is not a duel monster card for trade or for sale!" Anzu's father yelled at Kaiba. "Now get out of our house or we'll call the police!"
"Fine!" Kaiba closed up his suitcase. "I'm leaving. This is ridiculous! I have everything – my company, my wealth, my precious game cards. That only leaves my marital status. This is not the end." He shot Anzu with a cold glare. "If you want me to leave you alone, then defeat me in a duel. Let's go Mokuba!"
With that said, he left the house.
Mokuba, his younger brother, gave them a smile. "This is my brother's number, Anzu-san." He left a slip of paper and ran after Kaiba. "I can't wait to have a sister-in-law."
This got to be a bad dream, Anzu thought.
