Flynn yawned as the early light of the sun appeared over the horizon.
He had been watching Sinbad's front door all night from a tree across the street in Pongo Dog Park. After he met with Jasmine, he looped in Aladdin and Cassim with a hunch that Aurora was behind the attempted break in at the zoo. The three of them devised a plan to follow Aurora. After Jasmine confirmed that Sinbad had taken her to see a show at the Muses Concert Hall, Flynn stationed himself outside Sinbad's apartment, watching. Aladdin stationed himself up the street by Tiana's Place. Cassim waited by the docks on alert.
A bell tolled at the shore. Signaling a ship had been spotted a few miles out. The Pearl was almost home.
Flynn saw movement coming from Walt Street Flats. He saw a blonde figure hurriedly leaving the apartments and running toward the docks. Flynn sent a text to Cassim and Aladdin. It was go time.
Aurora shivered in the early morning hours of the day just before dawn and she approached the docks. Cruella had said that her men Horace and Jasper would be waiting near Prince Park for instructions. She couldn't believe it had been that easy to get what she wanted out of Sinbad. If she had known all she had to do was bat her eyes and ask questions, she wouldn't have spent so much time grooming him. She had learned after a few drinks that Tullio was meeting the ship with a few hired men. She wanted to make sure that Horace and Jasper were among those hired men. And then she would be a star student and a full fledged designer for DeVille Fashions.
Once she reached the park she saw two figures waiting for her on a bench. She approached them quickly. She had heard the shore bell and she wanted them to make it to the docks in time to meet the ship and get the big cats for Cruella.
"Why the rush, miss?" she heard a deep masculine voice from behind her.
She turned around to see a darker skinned man with salt and peppered black hair standing over her with his arms crossed.
"What's this?" she heard Horace's voice from the other direction shout out and turned to see two big men putting their hands on Cruella's henchmen.
'What was going on?' she thought.
She turned back around to see Flynn and Aladdin standing on either side of the deep masculine voiced man.
"It's over, blondie," she heard Flynn say.
"What are you talking about? What are you doing here?"
Flynn tilted his head.
'What did I ever see in her? She hasn't figured it out yet?', he thought seriously questioning his own motives.
"I'm Cassim Abu. And I was hired to protect the animals of the Pride Rock Zoo and you and your two little friends will spend the day in City Hall for questioning."
Aurora gasped.
"We know everything, Aurora," Flynn added as two more of Cassim's men approached her from behind to restrain her.
"No!" she shouted, unsure of what to say to defend herself.
"You two can take Ms. Rose to City Hall now. She's their problem now," Cassim commanded. He turned toward Flynn and Aladdin.
"Good work, boys. You are both surprisingly good at following people undetected."
Before either of them could respond, they heard a voice coming from behind. It was Sinbad on his way to the docks.
"What's going on here? Aurora, are you alright?" Sinbad asked as he approached the group.
He had been surprised to wake up to find Aurora gone but he didn't have time to ponder. Tullio had texted him that the bell tolled. The Pearl would be docking soon and he needed to be there. On his walk he was shocked to find Aurora and two other men in restraints by Cassim Abu's PI team. Working the docks he was familiar with the local law enforcement and he recognized them. This was quite a sight to see before dawn, even for Sinbad Seas.
"No! Sinbad, do something! They think - "
"Save it, blondie," Flynn spoke up.
"Cassim! Tell me why Aurora is restrained! Now!" Sinbad demanded.
"I think Flynn and Aladdin can answer that," Cassim motioned toward his new proteges.
"You've been had, Sinbad," Flynn said laughing and then slowly realizing that he was the only one laughing so he stopped.
"Aurora was using your connections to the docks to get these two men hired to unload the big cats for the zoo. We have it on good information that Aurora and these two men planned to steal the leopards and cheetahs for their fur for Cruella DeVille," Aladdin finished firmly.
Flynn and Aladdin both saw the look of realization reach Sinbad as his eyes paled and his face sunk. After the way things had ended with Meg, he had let his guard down. He knew that Aurora was no good. He knew that she had played around with many a men in Fantasia. And he had always been smarter than that. But then Meg had dumped him and he had forgotten all about that. He looked at Flynn and Aladdin. Then he looked at Aurora standing with Cassim's men. Tears were welling up in her eyes. Her lip was pouting. She looked so pitiful. She was trying to get him to play her game again.
"Take her away, then," Sinbad muttered, bitter anger growing inside.
Aurora screamed and shouted and kicked, calling for Sinbad to do something. Her desperate cries landed on deaf ears.
"What will happen?" he inquired.
"They'll question her about DeVille Fashions. She won't do any time but it will certainly be harder for her to do anything in this town again," Cassim answered. "Now if you'll excuse me, I need to accompany my men."
Cassim confidently fled down the street following his men to City Hall.
Sinbad stood there with Flynn and Aladdin staring off into the light of dawn, wondering how he could've been so stupid as to let himself fall into a trap.
Jasmine was not expecting a knock on her door just past dawn on a Saturday morning, but Flynn wanted to deliver the news in person. He waited for her with a gleefully proud smile on his face imagining what she would do when she found out that Aurora had been stopped. When she finally opened the door and he saw her face, he was overcome with an indescribable feeling. His normal cockiness faded away at the sight of her. Her thick jet black hair was tied back in a pony tail. She wore a long plush turquoise robe. Sleep was still in her eyes. And he thought she never looked more beautiful than she did at that moment.
"Flynn! What are you doing here? Did something happen?"
He blinked himself back to reality. Although he could spend all day looking at her, he did have something to tell her.
"Aurora and Cruella's men are at City Hall. The animals are safe from being next season's outerwear."
Jasmine breathed a sigh of relief.
"Really? Did she admit to anything?"
"Of course not. She tried to pout her way out of it."
"Figures."
"Yeah. Well. I just thought I'd let you know," he said, stepping off her porch.
"You know you could've called or texted."
For the first time in his life, Flynn was speechless.
"I know...I uh..I..."
Jasmine smiled, knowing full well he came by just to see her.
"Thank you for the help, Flynn. I really appreciate it."
He smiled.
"Of course. I could get used to this whole friend thing ya know," he responded, reaching the sidewalk.
She rolled her eyes.
"See you later, Flynn Rider."
She shut the door. He walked back to his apartment, smiling all along the way.
Being back in port was no help at all to Jack and his haunting dreams with their bewitching starlet.
He was pondering his predicament as he jaunted back to his apartment on Walt Street in the early morning hours of the day. Eric and his men had taken care of the felines for the zoo while Jack supervised. He may as well have been back in his dreams. Images of her danced about in his brain. He wasn't quite sure what he should do. Captain Jack Sparrow did not get distracted by women.
But then again she wasn't just any woman.
As he reached his apartment and put the key in the door, he had almost talked himself into texting her after the ceremony. It was against his personal code, but he had a swift and unyielding need for her. Jack began imagining every possible scenario with her as he entered the apartment and shut the door.
"Will?"
"Ahh!"
Jack was met with the sight of a sleepy Anya jolting up from the couch.
"Anya, luv. To what do I owe this surprising yet nonetheless welcome, pleasure this morning?"
Anya rubbed her eyes.
"Sorry to startle you. Will said I could crash here while you guys were away."
"Not to worry, luv. No harm done. Now if you'll excuse me, this captain needs his rest."
Jack headed for his bedroom.
"Wait! Where's Will?"
"He should be along shortly. He is escorting the lovely Ms. Porter to her home."
"Ms. Porter?"
"Jane Porter. She was sent to Africa with the research team. She hitched a ride on the Pearl back to Fantasia. Will is a helpless whelp around her."
"Oh. I see."
"Stay as long as you like, luv. But 'ole Jack really needs his rest for the festivities later today."
"Right. The festivities."
Jack shut the door to his room leaving Anya alone with her thoughts. She had sneaked out last night after witnessing Adam's angry outburst to sleep somewhere safe. She was looking forward to welcoming Will back home and confiding in him about all that has happened in her life since he left. She had missed him more than she cared to admit. A pang of regret struck her heart as she thought about what Jack had said. Will was walking a Ms. Jane Porter home this morning; a Ms. Jane Porter that he was quite taken with apparently. She knew she had missed her chance. She had told him she just wanted to be friends and that's all they were. He had every right to move on.
She sighed.
Feeling foolish, she thought she'd better leave before he returned.
Just as she reached the door it opened and Will walked inside.
"Anya."
"Will!"
"I didn't expect to see you so early."
She smiled and looked down. She was suddenly afraid to make eye contact with him.
"Yeah. Sorry if I scared you. You gave me the key if I ever needed to get away."
Realization struck Will. The voyage over with Jane had been such a pleasant distraction that he had almost forgotten about Anya. He suddenly felt terrible guilt for looking forward to getting to spend more time with Jane Porter.
"Did something happen?"
Anya sighed unsure of where to start.
"Boy, did it. And then some. I can't tell you how glad I am to see - "
Before Anya could finish, she was interrupted by Jack's bedroom door opening.
"Do you mind having this conversation somewhere other than here? Some of us are trying to get some rest," Jack announced before slamming the door shut.
Anya frowned, realizing her conversation with Will would have to wait.
"You probably need some rest, too. I should go."
"You don't have to. Let me buy you cup of coffee."
"No. No. It's fine. Go get some sleep. I'll see you later."
"If you're sure."
"I'm sure," she smiled heading toward the door. "I'll save you seat at the celebration."
"Well, I'm actually sitting with someone else for the celebration. But maybe we can meet up after?"
Fighting sudden tears back, Anya smiled and nodded.
"Sure. See you soon, Will."
She shut the door and leaned against it catching her breath. She let a few tears trickle down her cheek, took a deep breath and walked home, knowing that Will would only ever be just a friend to her now.
