"And yeah, it's real lava. Burns like hell, too." Liam said wincing, most likely at the memory. He showed Esmeralda a nasty looking scar. "I didn't even touch the lava. The heat is pretty fierce."
Esmeralda was staring at the wall with slightly morbid interest. "Has anyone died?"
"No, but Paolo nearly got his ear burnt off. They say his hair is still singed, to this day. I don't believe it though." Liam informed her.
Esmeralda nodded her head. Relaxing her wings, she allowed them to drag on the ground slightly. "Are there any fae in this camp?"
"There is one. Her name is Minerva Mcgonagall. They say she's the toughest fairy who ever lived. She can do dagger fighting, swordfighting, wrestling, and she's like 60 years old."
" Can I meet her?" Essa wanted to know.
"Sure. Let's finish the tour though. Follow me." He led Esmeralda towards the semicircle of cabins.
" That one is cabin one. It's Zeus', and empty. All of the big cabins are empty. Zeus, Poseidon, Hera... The gods just want them at camp so they can feel important. No one ever uses it. They aren't allowed, or they run the risk of being smited. "
"Smited?" Essa asked tentatively .
"A god makes you spontaneously combust. " Liam shrugged it off like it was nothing, but his eyes were filled with a bitter sentiment.
"Oh..." she winced.
"Cabin four is Demeter's. Never let her kids catch you eating anything but cereal and whole grain toast for breakfast. She's a goddess of agriculture, so it makes sense that she would have an affinity for wheat. "
the cabin was really nice looking and rustic, with hanging vines and ivy creeping up the walls. There was a flat roof that you could walk on, filled with tomatoes and other vegetables in raised bed gardens.
The next one they saw was a plain cabin with a boar head on the door. In red paint in had the number five written on it carelessly. "Ares cabin. " Liam said. "Be careful if them. They might no give you their traditional initiation, but it's probably best for you if you stay away. Ruthless fighters." He warned.
Cabin 6 was a pretty dove grey color, and had blue curtain hanging in the windows. A silver owl windchime hung above the steps and through the window, Essa could see somebody playing with a Newton's cradle. "That is Athena cabin. They are super smart and probably more dangerous than Ares, because they had intellect to with their battles, not brute force. Crazy inventors, too..."
The door burst open and Annabeth came flying out. "Essa! I got claimed by Athena!" She hugged Esmeralda fiercely.
Esmeralda congratulated Annabeth, but didn't get why it was so important. That particular piece of info hadn't been disclosed. Liam chided Annabeth playfully, "Annabeth, Essa has to finish her tour. Let her go!" Annabeth released Esmeralda from the bone-squeezing hug, though albeit reluctantly.
"Next up, Apollo's and Artemis' cabins. Artemis doesn't have any kids, due to her vow of maidenhood, but Apollo has an excess. He's my dad, and has basically dated any hot poet, musician, or archery champion that has ever lived. We have a kid in there that people think is Rihanna's, but hasn't confirmed it yet." His eyes were sad for a split second.
Apollo's cabin was an eyecatching gold, and not her favourite design, but Esmeralda felt a bit strange for a moment. Her left wrist itched and she scratched for idly. Her feathers must have been tickling it.
The Artemis cabin was Esme's favourite of the two. It was a light, clear, silver and much more elegant in a more understated way. A shining silver bow hung on the door.
Aphrodite cabin hadn't changed since Esmeralda had left it 45 minutes ago. It was the stark contrast to the cabin across from it, cabin nine. The one across from it belonged to Hephaestus. It was not as well kept, and various tools lay on the steps up to the door of the cabin. It had a wooden plaque on the door that declared it was 'Cabin nine!'. Esmeralda liked it's homey feel.
The last two cabins were Cabin 11 and Cabin 12. Liam informed her that Cabin 11 was the Hermes cabin. It was simple looking and had a rod thing with two snakes on the door. The door was open, so she could see the inside. It was pretty basic, but seemed a bit crowded, judging from all of the sleeping bags on the floor. Sketches were pinned to the walls along with travel brochures and various miscellaneous items.
"This one is the Dionysus cabin. He is the god of wine." Liam told her.
Cabin 12 was made of a dark coloured wood and had grape vines climbing up the walls. A sign on the door said, 'Love is temporary, wine is life. " It was a bit unnatural to see a plaque referencing alcoholic drinks in a summer camp, but it sort of made sense, given that the cabin belonged to Dionysus, the God of wine and parties.
"So, anyway, you have to do a performance showcasing your skills for the gods?" Liam asked. " Word goes around camp. If you like, I could help. Maybe something with music? You can sing already... " he mused.
"Yeah. If you can help, that would be nice. I don't know what to do."
" Well, ever watched the musical Matilda? There is a song with multiple parts. Seeing as you can sing, if you managed to sing the entire song yourself -with magic, of course- that would be perfect. " Liam suggested.
"Okay. I can do illusions. They are my favorite." Esmeralda confirmed.
"Oh! I forgot to show you the new cabin. It's the Chaos cabin. I think Chaos created it for you as a claiming gift. Wanna go see?"
Esmeralda was positively taken aback. She followed Liam closer to the lake. A pretty cabin was built out of a silvery black material. She entered it hesitantly and gasped. It was bigger than it looked from the outside. There were two floors. On the first floor, there was a kitchen. It had the the basic necessities, like utensils and a stovetop. There was a living room with a laptop on the top of a coffee table and a couch.
She ventured up the stairs and saw a bathroom. A bedroom was off to the side and a spacious room with nothing inside was across it. She opened the last door. It had a tall ceiling and had her aerial hoop and silks already attached. It looked like her old house. She looked up to the corner of the room to see big ledge with a multitude of pillows and blankets. She spread her wings and flew up to investigate it. It was exactly like her nest she had at home. It seemed that Chaos has been able to take her belongings and replicate the cabin so it looked like her home.
She really was going to have to thank her mother. She didn't care if she had a cabin or not, but the sentiment was what she really cared about. She also hated sleeping bags, because her wings got cold, so she was glad she didn't have to stay in the Hermes cabin. This was definitely a plus.
