"5 boroughs and you come to this hole in the wall, small world. Follow me," Juliet greeted, noticing the lack of change in the man's attire.
"Shirley Temple, right?" "That's me, the movie star, now what can I get you?" Desmond chuckled.
"I'll take the house special, and a water is fine." Juliet clicked her pen, picking up the menu.
"Alrighty, it'll be about 5-10 minutes." She slipped off to the kitchen, placing down her notebook. "Charlie, need a house special, after that call in Lance and Kelsey, you need to go home."
"Not that I'm complaining, but aren't I the boss around here?" "When you ain't hungover maybe, be back in 5 for that special." She grabbed the pitcher of water and table six's to-go container and headed out to the front of the house once more.
"Enjoy the rest of your day," she smiled, handing the elderly couple their boxes. They handed her a five dollar tip.
"You too dear," her eyes widened, but she placed the five in her pocket. She returned to the kitchen, eyes trailing over the small crowd of people as she waited for the food to finish cooking.
Desmond found his thoughts wandering back to his mom as doodled on the placemat absentmindedly. He missed her.
"One house special," a plate was sat in front of him, and he wanted to drool, damn that was a good looking burger. Bacon, cheese, two patties, and fried onion rings. "Enjoy your lunch!" Oh, he definitely would.
Charlie looked extremely tired, even with sunglasses blocking most of his face. He nodded to Kelsey and Lance, who had just entered the back entrance.
"I'm off, don't mess up." Lance barked out a laugh.
"Don't get lost, boss." Charlie waved his hand, exiting out the back. Kelsey immediately picked up an apron and tied it around her waist.
"Not a busy day?" "No, only a couple people out there. You wanna grab the left half of the house, Lance?" Lance shrugged, straightening his tie. He picked up a clean set of silverware, exiting the kitchen.
Juliet picked up the bill for the bartender, heading back to his table. He offered her a small grin.
"This is the best burger I've ever had." Juliet laughed softly, placing his bill on the table.
"Yeah well, you can come back and get more anytime you're not serving drinks." He pulled his wallet out, handing her the cash.
"Keep the change as a tip," He stood, nodding his head at her before walking out the exit.
Placing the money in her pocket, she retreated to the kitchen. Lance followed behind her, carrying a stack of dishes and humming quietly.
"Hey hun, if you wanna break while it's empty go ahead. I'll bang the door when customers arrive."
"Thanks Kelsey," She grabbed her bottle of lemonade from the refrigerator and went out the back, squinting her eyes as the light from the Sun bounced off the window of the office next door. She took a sip from the bottle, smiling as the tart taste ran across her tongue.
Her thoughts came to the task she'd have to do tonight. Abstergo was in the beginning stages of building a skyscraper, and she was sent to survey the area. It was supposed to be empty tonight, but her stomach fell at the thought, sensing something wrong. She brushed it off as anxiety. A knock on the door brought her back to the present.
"On my way." Juliet grabbed the doorknob, switching from Abstergo to serving up burgers.
