Vermillion City
The gang have finally made it to Vermilion City.
"Finally, We're here" Serena said happily
"We should clean up & get something to eat" Brock suggested
"Right, I'm starving" Ash agreed
After they cleaned up and ate, Ash got his Pokémon checked. While they were waiting, Brock was telling Ash & Serena about the Vermillion Gym Leader
"The Gym Leader, Lt. Surge also known as the Lightning Lieutenant is a soldier who fought in a war & Electric Type Pokémon saved his life. He was a Commanding Officer & a pilot." Brock explained "He uses Electric Type Pokémon & you can defeat him by using Ground Type Pokémon"
"Ash, the only Ground Type you have is Sandshrew." Serena pointed out "What Pokémon are you gonna use if Surge uses more than one Pokémon"
"I can use Bulbasaur" Ash said
"That's a good choice" Brock said "Bulbasaur is a Grass & Poison Type & Electric Type Moves aren't very effective against Grass Type Pokémon"
When they got to the Gym
"Greetings I'm Dwayne, how may I be of service to you?" Dwayne said
"I'm here to challenge Lt. Surge." Ash said
"Follow me." Dwayne said as he led the gang to a muscular man with spiky blonde hair, a green tank top, black sunglasses, camouflage pants, dark brown boots, & a dog tag necklace. "Sir, you have another challenger, sir."
"Hm, which one of you is my challenger" Lt. Surge said while studying the gang
"That would be me, sir." Ash said "I'm Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town"
"Alright kid, I accept your challenge" Lt. Surge accepted before noticing Pikachu "Well, what do you know? A Pikachu."
"Pikachu" Pikachu smiled
"This your Pokémon, kid?" Lt. Surge asked
"Yes sir, he's the first Pokémon I ever got" Ash said
"Is that so? Well, I hope you've prepared for this gym battle, kid." Lt. Surge said
At the battlefield, Ash & Lt. Surge went into battle position
"The Gym Battle between Ash of Pallet Town & Lt. Surge, the Vermillion Gym Leader will begin. This will be a 3 on 3 battle & the battle will end when either side is unable to continue & only the Challenger is allowed to substitute Pokémon" Dwayne announced
"Voltorb, Ten hut!" Lt. Surge said as he sent out a Poké Ball-like Pokémon with eyes
"Voltorb" The Pokémon said as Ash pulled out his Rotom Phone
Voltorb, the Ball Pokémon, an Electric Type, Voltorb looks like a Poké Ball, & it was first spotted at a Poké Ball factory. Nobody knows the connection.
"Bulbasaur, I choose you!" Ash said as he sent out his Bulbasaur
"Bulba" Bulbasaur said
"Just to let you know, kid. I beat my challengers so bad, I sent their Pokémon to the ER" Lt. Surge warned
"I'm always up for a challenge" Ash said
"Battle begin" Dwayne announced
ASH VS LT. SURGE
"Bulbasaur, Use Growth" Ash said
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur said as he became surrounded by light green aura
"Voltorb, Use Rollout" Lt. Surge said. Voltorb glowed bright red & repeatedly rolled into Bulbasaur
"Use Sweet Scent" Ash said. Bulbasaur release pink powder from his bulb which caused Voltorb to stop & become infatuated by the smell
"Now, use Vine Whip"
Bulbasaur released two green vines from his bulb & hit Voltorb with them
"Don't surrender, use Double Team" Lt. Surge said. Voltorb glowed white & created multiple copies of itself
"Use Nature Power" Ash said. Bulbasaur's bulb glowed yellow & fired multiple stars from it which hit the copies & the real Voltorb
"Good thing my Oddish taught Bulbasaur Nature Power"
"But Bulbasaur used Swift, I thought Ash said Nature Power" Meowth said in confusion
"That is Nature Power. Nature Power is a move that becomes a different damaging move depending on the environment that the battle is being conducted in. Since we're in a building the move can be turned into Swift or Tri Attack" Brock explained
"Voltorb, Use Spark" Lt. Surge said. Voltorb became surrounded by yellow electricity & charged at Bulbasaur
"Use Take Down" Ash said. Bulbasaur became surrounded by a golden force field & charged at Voltorb
Both Pokémon clashed into each other causing an explosion. When the smoke cleared, it revealed that Voltorb had fainted.
"Voltorb is unable to battle, Bulbasaur wins" Dwayne announced
"Good Job, Bulbasaur" Ash praised
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur smiled
Lt Surge returned Voltorb
"That Bulbasaur of yours is impressive, but let's see how you deal with this. Magnemite Ten Hut!" Lt. Surge said as he sent out a round robotic-like Pokémon with a magnet on each side of its head
"Magnemite" The Pokémon said as Ash pulled out his Rotom Phone
Magnemite, the Magnet Pokémon, an Electric & Steel Type, Groups of Magnemite often cluster around transmission towers to suck up electricity from the power lines. They float above the ground by using electromagnetic waves.
"Bulbasaur return" Ash said as he returned Bulbasaur "Charmander, I choose you!"
Ash sent out his Charmander
"Char" Charmander said
"Charmander is a good choice" Brock pointed out "Since Magnemite is part Steel Type, Charmander will have the advantage"
"Magnemite, Use Metal Sound" Lt. Surge said. Magnemite's magnets glow light blue & sends white sound waves from them which caused Charmander to cover its ears
"Use Dig" Ash said as Charmander dug underground
"Use Magnet Rise" Lt. Surge said. Magnemite emitted yellow sparks of electricity from its body & raised up in the air. Charmander came out of the ground & missed Magnemite.
"Now, use Thunderbolt"
Magnemite fired a bolt of yellow electricity & hit Charmander
"Don't give up, use Smokescreen" Ash said. Charmander released black smoke from his mouth which covered the battlefield. Magnemite tried to look for Charmander through the smoke.
"Use Flamethrower"
Charmander shot fire from his mouth & hit Magnemite from below
"Use Electro Ball" Lt. Surge said. Magnemite fired a ball of yellow electricity
"Dodge it," Ash said as Charmander dodged & charged at Magnemite "Now Use Iron Tail"
The flame on Charmander's tail glowed white & hit Magnemite with it, which caused it to faint.
"Magnemite is unable to battle, Charmander wins" Dwayne announced
"Way to go, Charmander" Ash praised
"Charmander" Charmander said happily
Lt. Surge returned Magnemite
"Hm, even though you're a kid, you sure do fight like a man." He smirked "Guess it's time for me to bring out the big guns, Go Raichu!"
Lt. Surge sent out a orange mouse-like Pokémon that looked like a Pikachu
"Rai" The Pokémon said as Ash pulled out his Rotom Phone
Raichu, the Mouse Pokémon, An Electric Type, & the Evolved form of Pikachu, Raichu can unleash enough electricity to defeat a much larger Pokémon in a single devastating shock. When it's all charged up, it will attack just about anything—including its trainer
"So that's the evolved form of Pikachu?" Serena asked
"Mm-hm, & it looks quite strong" Brock said
"Raichu & I have been together ever since he was a Pikachu. He is pretty tough to beat, so be careful." Lt. Surge warned
"Charmander, Use Dig" Ash said as Charmander dug underground
"You use Dig too" Lt. Surge. Raichu spun & dug underground using his tail, & uppercutted Charmander out of the ground
"Charmander, are you ok?" Ash asked as Charmander was straining to get up
"Finish it with Thunderbolt" Lt. Surge said. Raichu fired a bolt of electricity & hit Charmander causing him to faint.
"Charmander is unable to battle, Raichu wins" Dwayne announced
"Charmander return" Ash said as he returned Charmander "Bulbasaur, I choose you!"
Ash sent out Bulbasaur
"Saur" Bulbasaur said
"Use Razor Leaf" Ash said. Bulbasaur fired multiple green glowing leaves from his bulb
"Dodge it with Agility" Lt. Surge said. Raichu dodged the attack & ran around Bulbasaur at fast speed
"Now, use Mega Kick"
Raichu's foot became surrounded by red energy & kicked Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur got sent flying into a wall & fainted.
"Bulbasaur is unable to battle, Raichu wins" Dwayne announced
"Bulbasaur return" Ash said as returned Bulbasaur "This is my last Pokémon, Sandshrew, I choose you!"
Ash sent out Sandshrew
"Sandshrew!" Sandshrew said with determination
"Heh, I always wondered if you had a Ground Type somewhere" Lt. Surge said
"Sandshrew, use Magnitude" Ash said. Sandshrew became surrounded by brown aura & punched the ground creating a magnitude 7 which hit Raichu
"Raichu, use Mega Kick" Lt. Surge said as Raichu hit Sandshrew with Mega Kick which caused Sandshrew to skid back.
"Use Sand Attack" Ash said. Sandshrew hit the ground & sand came flying out which blinded Raichu
"Now, use Rollout"
Sandshrew glowed light yellow & repeatedly rolled into Raichu
"Use Grass Knot" Lt. Surge said. Raichu's eyes glowed light green & summoned two green glowing vines tied up in a knot which caused Sandshrew to trip on the ground.
"Now use Body Slam"
Raichu jumped into the air & landed on Sandshrew
"Shrew!" Sandshrew shrieked in pain
"Sandshrew, are you alright?" Ash asked with worry as Sandshrew strained to get up "Come on, get up. I know you can do it."
Sandshrew stood up & glowed bluish white. Then he grew bigger, quills formed on his back, & his claws grew longer. As the light broke apart, it reveal that he evolved into a yellow hedgehog-like Pokémon with brown quills.
"Sandslash!" He said
"Wow, That's awesome" Ash exclaimed as he pulled out his Rotom Phone
Sandslash, the Mouse Pokémon, A Ground Type, & the evolved form of Sandshrew, The Spikes that cover Sandslash are sharp but brittle, easily broken on impact. Fortunately, they grow back very quickly. It sometimes ambushes foes by rolling up into a spiny ball & dropping from above.
Ability: Sand Veil
Hidden Ability: Sand Rush
Learned Moves: Earthquake, Counter, & Crush Claw
"Ready to wrap this up?" Ash asked
"Sandslash" Sandslash nodded with determination
"Then use Earthquake" Ash said. Sandslash hit the ground with one of his claws, creating an earthquake which hit Raichu & caused it to faint.
"Raichu is unable to battle, Sandslash wins. So the victory goes to Ash the challenger" Dwayne announced
"Alright, Sandslash" Ash said as he hugged Sandslash
"Sandslash" Sandslash said happily as he hugged him back
"You were awesome, Sandslash. I knew you could do it." Ash said
"Congratulations Ash, your Pokémon are very well-trained." Lt. Surge said as he came up to Ash
"Thanks Lieutenant" Ash said
"& as proof of your victory, I present to you the Thunder Badge" Lt. Surge said as he gave Ash a yellow sun shaped badge with an orange center.
"Alright, I got a Thunder Badge" Ash cheered as he held up the Thunder Badge
"Pi Pikachu/That's Right!/Saur!/Char!/Slash!" The Pokémon cheered
"& here's a TM24 containing the move Thunderbolt" Lt. Surge said as he gave Ash a an Electric Type TM
After the gang left
"Bulbasaur, Charmander, & Sandslash did great for their first Gym battle." Serena praised
"Yeah, they were awesome" Ash agreed
"Hey Ash, are you gonna evolve Pikachu soon?" Brock asked
"Well, only if Pikachu wants to evolve." Ash said as he turned to Pikachu "Do you want to evolve someday, Pikachu?"
"Pika Pi Pikachu" Pikach shook his head
"Pikachu said that he doesn't evolve & wants to become strong as he is." Meowth translated
"Eevee Eevee" Eevee said
"& Eevee said that she feels the same way" Meowth translated "To tell you the truth, I don't want to evolve either. Please don't be upset, boss & boss lady"
"I'm not upset, I like you just the way you are." Ash said
"Besides, We don't make our Pokémon evolve if they don't want to." Serena said
"Hey Rotom, where's the next gym?" Ash asked his Rotom Phone
The next gym is in Saffron City
"Alright Saffron City, here we come" Ash said
