It had been a couple weeks since things had been shaky between the Braxton brothers but things had started picking up now. Brax had taken Ricky's advice to start taking in everything great about his family, and he could see that it heavily outweighed the bad stuff. He put the doubts down to having a moment of weakness and too much bourbon and vowed not to mix them again, pleasing Ricky more than anyone.
He realised his family was actually stronger than he'd ever noticed, despite the arguments here or there. Heath and Kyle were doing a lot better, so were Kyle and Casey, who were doing a lot more together. He'd even noticed Heath and Bianca were doing better now, and were even in the city this week for her job. He hadn't received any angry texts from his brother, nor had Heath come home early, so he guessed it was going well.

Kyle was currently on his way to work after agreeing to cover a shift for Brax, who wanted to take Ricky out as a thanks for making him realise he had better things to focus on. And although they didn't tell him this, he knew something had changed between them over the last couple weeks and could tell it was something good. But as he thought about how good things were, a voice called out to him and he couldn't really work out if he heard right or not, not until he turned around.
"Phoebe, what're you doing here?" Kyle asks as she jumps into his arms without warning, wrapping her legs around his waist as she places her hands either side of his face.
"It's been a while since we caught up and you never answered any of my calls after you left Melbourne, I've missed you." Phoebe smiles, leaning in to kiss him, which took him by surprise.
"Kyle!" He hears to the side of him, turning to see Victoria standing there with Brax and Ricky, obviously having just come out of the Surf Club.
"Vic!" Kyle gasps, clearly shocked that Phoebe did that and he didn't even have any words to add.
"And you are?" Phoebe stares at her as she jumps down from Kyle before walking over to her.
"I'm Victoria." She replies, staring back at Phoebe, not even feeling slightly threatened by her.
"Well Victoria, that doesn't exactly answer my question. What are you to Kyle?" Phoebe asks as she folds her arms.
"Victoria's my girlfriend." Kyle says, going to stand next to Victoria, wrapping his arm around her waist.
"Not anymore, get lost." Phoebe says to Victoria, looking her up and down and not seeing any competition.
"Excuse me?" Victoria glares.
"Phoebe, you don't have a say in who I can and can't be with. You need to go." Kyle says to her, knowing by the glint in her eye that it wasn't going to be that simple.
"Nah, I'm good here, seems like an alright town for now." Phoebe says.
"You heard him, go." Brax firmly says, not about to back down to her. He didn't get the sense that she was going to be bad news, or that she was the abusive ex-girlfriend of Kyle's, as he wasn't the slightest bit scared of her like he said he would be seeing the certain ex again. But there was something about Phoebe that didn't sit right with him, especially after she tried getting between Kyle and Victoria within minutes of arriving.
"And what are you, his bodyguard?" Phoebe scoffs. "I'm not intimidated by you."
"He's my brother." Kyle says.
"He's your brother?" Phoebe laughs. "You need a better family. Come on, let's go."
"No, Phoebe. You need to leave." Kyle says. "I'm not going anywhere." He says, taking Victoria's hand before walking into the Surf Club.
"If you think you can get between them, think again. We're not the type of family you want to get on the wrong side of." Brax warns her.
"We'll see about that." Phoebe mutters under her breath before turning on her heels and walking away.
"Well she's full on." Ricky says as they follow Kyle and Victoria up to Angelo's.
"I have a feeling she'll be sticking around, and not for a good reason." Brax says, knowing he needed to talk to Kyle at some point about why this Phoebe had suddenly turned up acting like that.
"Kyle's finally with a girl he adores and she's going to ruin it. We have to make sure she leaves." Ricky sighs.
"Trust me, she'll be begging to leave if she carries on like that." Brax says.
"And what if she doesn't make it that easy? Just look at how she was about Kyle being in a relationship." Ricky says.
"I don't know, but if there was something to worry about, Kyle would tell me. And he stood up to her well, so that's got to be something to take into account?" Brax says.
"Maybe." Ricky says.
Surf Club - Angelo's
"You okay?" Brax asks them as they join the couple at the bar.
"Fine, just a bit annoyed I guess. She had no right talking to us like that." Victoria says, not having met someone like that before.
"What about you, Kyle?" Ricky asks as he stays quiet.
Kyle actually felt great about the encounter. He'd never been able to stand up for himself like that before, not to anyone, not even his brothers in the beginning. And before, he was too shocked to even notice himself doing it, and although before it would have freaked him out, he felt proud of himself for it. He didn't even get a beating for it, which would have happened almost instantly if he was to do that to his father.
"I feel great." Kyle smiles. "Well obviously not about the part where she was mean to Vic and trying to break us up, but she got the message."
"Who even was she?" Ricky asks.
"We dated back in high school and were in a serious relationship for a while. Things weren't working out between us so we broke up. She was always jealous when I would talk to other girls as we were together for so long. It's weird though, last I heard she was engaged to someone else so I don't know why she would be here." Kyle says, frowning as he thought about it.
"Maybe they broke up and she thought she'd try her luck with you again. Poor thing thinking she could get her own way like that." Victoria smirks.
"Well you've got nothing to worry about. I love you more than anything." Kyle smiles, leaning in to kiss her.
"Alright you two, lay off it." Brax smirks.
"Shouldn't you two be getting off now to wherever you were going?" Kyle asks as he turns to them.
"Alright, we get the hint." Brax says. "You sure you're going to be alright here after that?"
"Yeah, don't worry about us. I'm sure Vic will stay to keep me company." Kyle says, getting a grin from her.
"Of course I will. And maybe after your shift ends, we could head out for dinner together." Victoria says, which Brax and Ricky decide to leave them to it before they had less time to spend with each other.
"That sounds like a good plan, where do you want to go?" Kyle asks.
"How about you surprise me." Victoria suggests.
"Sure, I think I've got a place in mind. And you can get as dressed up as you want, because it's a very posh place." Kyle smiles.
"Ah, I think I know where you're on about." Victoria smiles. "I've got the perfect outfit in mind. We've also both got tomorrow off, so we can spend the entire day together as well."
"It sounds perfect to me." Kyle nods. "Are you sure that didn't bother you, cause I really do love you."
"Kyle, it's okay. She's not the first jealous girl I've had to fight off and I doubt she'll be the last. But it's no wonder people are like that, you're just too damn hot!" Victoria says, causing Kyle to blush, so she took it as the perfect opportunity to carry on, knowing he sometimes needed an extra boost, even though she didn't need a reason to show her love for him. "And don't even get me started on that body of yours. How it's so perfect when you don't workout is beyond me."
"Okay, Vic!" Kyle mutters, rubbing his hands over his face.
"And those sexy skills you have, it's just all perfect." Victoria says, grinning before pulling him in for a kiss. "Now hurry up and sort these customers out so I can have you all to myself!"
"On it. And you never know, I might cut my shift early as I know Brax and Ricky are going to be out till late. Heath and Bianca don't get back from the city for a couple more days, and I could convince Casey to take Darcy and Denny out later." Kyle says, loving her smile as she nodded.
"I can't wait. For now, I'll be waiting." She says before going to sit at a spare table to glance over the menu, even though she knew it off by heart.
