Since Kyle and Victoria had broken up, Kyle hadn't been able to speak to her, but had started moving past it. He'd found out that she moved back in with her parents and got a new job in Yabbie Creek, so that made it clear to him that she was being serious about breaking up with him, and he didn't want to keep dwelling on it as it just made him more upset knowing what he lost.

Although, he had been meeting with Phoebe a lot more and was seeing different sides to her, sides that he liked. She was showing compassion towards his break up and making it known she wasn't going to use it against him. He didn't want Victoria to take it the wrong way if she saw them together, but he really needed a friend right now and Phoebe was the person that was there for him when he needed it.

Phoebe had also asked Kyle on a date once Kyle had moved past his break up with Victoria, and he agreed to it, knowing it wouldn't go anywhere unless he felt that it was really right for him. But he actually enjoyed it more than he was expecting and they'd been on more dates since then. Brax didn't think it was fair on Victoria but he could see how much happier Kyle was when he was with Phoebe, so they all decided to not get involved in it.

Braxton House

"Brax, am I able to swap my double shift this weekend to just the morning shift?" Kyle asks as his brother walks in from the garden with Ricky.

"I don't think so. We're still a staff member down until I can get a replacement in for Victoria, so I need you on for now." Brax says, noticing Kyle huffed something under his breath. "If you don't like it, then I'll demote you to a waiter and make someone else manager. You've never been bothered before, so why are you now?"

"Cause Phoebe has a gig in the city this weekend and I said I'll go with her. I'm sure the world isn't going to end if I don't work half of my shift." Kyle says.

"You knew what the requirements were when you accepted the job of manager, I'm not changing that now just because your ex-girlfriend wants you to go to a gig with her."

"She's actually my girlfriend now, and I said I was going to support her. You'll just have to find someone else to cover for me because I'm not telling Phoebe I can't go anymore." Kyle says.

"I'll take that as you not wanting the manager's position anymore then?" Brax asks.

"Yeah, you do that." Kyle nods before storming out.

"What was that about?" Ricky frowns.

"I don't even know. He's barely been out of his relationship with Victoria and now he's with Phoebe. He's changing so much in so little time and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. He's always gone above standards for this job, so I don't know what's changed." Brax says.

"Maybe he genuinely wants to be there for Phoebe this weekend and didn't want to let her down." Ricky suggests, not really knowing any other explanation for it.

"What, so he's okay with letting me down and also for him to agree to me giving someone else the manager's position?" Brax raises an eyebrow.

"Well, are you going to give it to someone else or give him another chance ?" Ricky asks.

"I'm obviously going to keep him as manager for now. The only other person that was ever in the running for it was Victoria, and she quit on me after she broke up with Kyle. If he proves that he still wants the job, then of course I'll let him keep it, if not then I'll give it to someone else." Brax says.

"Just give him this weekend with Phoebe and then you might see a change in him. I'll also talk to him, see if he'll say what's going on." Ricky says.

"I don't think that will work. He's only ever spoken about certain stuff to me and that proves that he isn't going to talk to me, so he might not open up to you either." Brax says.

"Maybe the chance to talk to someone else other than you will help him open up on other things. He might feel like he's been relying on you too much and wants to take a step back to do things himself and just didn't know the best way around it. Or maybe he was just having a bad day and took it out on the wrong person." Ricky explains.

"Well let's hope you're right cause I really can't see this ending well if Kyle carries on like this." Brax says.

The Pier Diner

"So you're really coming to this gig I've got on in the city this weekend?" Phoebe asks.

"Yeah, I told you it would be fine." Kyle nods, deciding not to mention the fact that he was basically just demoted as a manager to a normal waiter position.

"But you said you weren't sure if you could get your afternoon shift covered."

"Well I did. Can we not talk about that, I'm sure you don't need to be bored with the details of it all." Kyle says.

"Why, is there something else going on?" Phoebe asks.

"No, I just don't want to talk about my job. Why don't you tell me how this gig came up? You never mentioned there was another opportunity around here for you." Kyle says.

"There wasn't meant to be any other spots available, but someone dropped out, so they asked me to step in. It may even give me more opportunities in the future around here, so you're stuck with me." Phoebe says.

"Well it's been nice catching up with you over the last couple weeks. It's not like how we used to be." Kyle says.

"Yeah well things are different now I guess. I've been focusing on my music career a lot more and I've been getting a lot more gigs as time went on. That's the thing that keeps me sane." Phoebe shrugs.

"So how long are you planning on sticking around for? It's been a while already." Kyle comments.

"I wasn't sure yet. Have you got a problem with me being here?" Phoebe asks.

"No, of course not." Kyle shakes his head.

Although he did have a brief thought that maybe he would still be with Victoria if Phoebe didn't turn up like she did. He still had it on his mind that Phoebe was mentioned when Victoria broke up with him, but she wasn't giving it away. When he asked, she just kept giving him the same answer about having been trying to get to know Victoria as she was his then girlfriend. He didn't bother mentioning it now, not now he was moving on from Victoria.

"Good, cause I might stick around for a while longer again." Phoebe smiles. "It's been great catching up with you and I just know that things are going to change now."

"What'd you mean by that?" Kyle asks, faintly frowning. Something wasn't right with how she was acting, he just couldn't put his finger on it.

"Nothing. Now I am going to go into Yabbie Creek to do some shopping. How about you come with me and we have lunch together in this little restaurant I found last time I was there?" Phoebe suggests.

"It wouldn't happen to be the same restaurant you said you saw Victoria working in, would it?" Kyle asks, knowing she would do everything she could think of to make her jealous about them now being together.

"Maybe, but it also seemed like a nice restaurant. If you're so bothered about not seeing her, we could find somewhere else to eat that might not taste as nice or do my favourite wine." Phoebe says, staring at him.

"No, it's fine." Kyle sighs. "How about we leave now and make an afternoon of it?"

"I thought you had a shift this afternoon?" Phoebe asks, grabbing her things before standing up anyway.

"No, my shifts are going to be different from now on." Kyle says, following her out of the diner.

"How come?" Phoebe asks.

"Brax is struggling to find another waitress since Victoria quit. Don't worry, I'm not going to be working stupid hours just to make up for the hours she left."

"Good." Phoebe says.

He knew it would be extremely awkward if they were to bump into Victoria but he also knew that she was the one who broke up with him and had been ignoring all of his calls and messages since the break up. He was with Phoebe now, even if they had been moving really fast in their relationship. He couldn't hold back just because he didn't want to upset Victoria, she upset him without giving him a good reason, so he decided he wasn't going to hold back with Phoebe just because of his ex.
