Chapter 41 A new Spiritual age
Sean and his group walked around the spirit world seeing it for the first time.
"Wow. This is amazing." Korra said.
"Well, spirits may give people problems but they live in a nice place." Sean said touching a flower before it turned into a butterfly and flew off making him chuckle.
"The spirts are so much more beautiful in their own world." Jinora said about to chase it.
Only for Sean to grab her shoulder.
"Need I remind you that we're looking for someone here." Sean said amused.
"Oh right." Jinora said sheepishly.
"So who are we looking for anyway?" Korra asked.
"If I had to guess someone who knows more information than anyone else." Sean said.
"So how do we find him? Or Her?" Korra asked.
"That I..." Sean tried to say till Korra stepped in a hole before a spirit pushed her out.
"Hey watch where you're goin', you giant clod." A spirit annoyed.
"Whoops sorry." Korra said.
"This is a residential area in case you hadn't noticed. Who do you think you are stomping through here like that?"
"I'm the Avatar." Korra said as another came out
"The Avatar." He sniffed her. "Not bad."
"We're trying to find the spirit portals? The Sith opened one..." Korra tried to say before another came out the ground.
"I heard Unalaq did that."
"No The Sith did that" Sean said as another came out.
"How can you now know where it is?"
"That was at the South pole in our world." Korra said before more showed up.
"I don't trust her!"
"Get out of our world!"
"We don't need you."
"You don't belong here!"
"QUIET!" Sean roared shutting them up. "Now listen up. We are on a very short time span before Unalaq tries to merge With Vaatu so he can make the universe in his image." Sean said.
"What are you talking about? Sure Vaatu is powerful like Raava but even he's not that powerful."
"He can be when he connects to the Lay Lines of the Force." Sean said.
"Lay lines?"
"Their energy streams that connect all living things. Unalaq somehow learned about them and is planning to Merge with Vaatu so he can access these Lay Lines. If he does that he'll be able to make the universe in his image, Make people and spirits be the way he wants them to be. No more free will. No more choice. Just what he wants." Korra said shocking them.
"Oh...Wow. I always thought he seemed power hungry but that takes the cake." One said.
"Look. Help us and we'll make sure that doesn't happen." Jinora said.
"What do you want?"
"We're looking for someone from one of Korra's past lives. An ancestor of her's named Surik said he would have the answer." Sean said.
"Oh...You must be talking about Iroh." One said shocking them.
"Iroh? The Dragon of the West? He's here?" Korra asked.
"Oh yeah sure. Left his physical body behind and came here."
"What does he know that could stop Vaatu?" Jinora asked.
"We'll find out soon enough." Korra said as they left.
Arriving at some shrine they took a closer look.
"This is a shrine to Wan." Korra said.
"Wan was the first Avatar right?" Jinora asked.
"Yeah. He made a simple mistake because he thought he was doing the right thing. Vaatu tricked him into separating him from Raava. He didn't know who they were since mostly Early Air Nomads knew more about the spirts than anyone else." Korra said.
"Why didn't he or Raava Just destroy him?" Jinora asked.
"I don't think it's that simple. It's like with the Sith they just keep coming back after a certain amount of time." Sean said.
"So you think even if they did destroy him then Vaatu would just come back?" Korra asked.
"Well, think about it. There can't be light without darkness and no darkness without light. Both are needed for balance. It's how you maintain that balance that matters. My way is to use both Good and dark tactics to balance them out. Others are to have both light and dark forces working side by side. My father's when he found the original code was for the Jedi to use both light and dark abilities to balance them out." Sean said.
"So we can't destroy Vaatu without destroying Raava which would upset the balance of the universe." Jinora said.
"Most likely." Sean said as they continued on.
Meanwhile
"I can't believe my little girl is in the spirit world. If anything ever happened to her I'd never forgive myself." Tenzin said.
"I think your underestimating just how well your daughter can handle herself. The Clone wars are proof enough she has been doing well." Tarkin said.
"Yes, I suppose." Tenzin said.
"Aren't you worried for Sean at all?" Kya asked.
"I don't have to be. He knows how to take care of himself and get out of dangerous situations on his own because he plans ahead and thinks on his feet. Worrying only increases the odds of that unwanted outcome." Tarkin said.
"I suppose that is true." Tenzin said before Brok suddenly appeared.
"No time for chit chat." Brok said rushing in.
"What are you doing here?" Bumi asked.
"My job. Order's nearly finished. Just need some blood." Brok said cutting Sean's Palm getting some.
"Why do you need blood?" Tarkin asked.
"So only he can use it. Order's nearly finished. Just needed his blood to finish it up." Brok said vanishing.
"What order?" Tenzin asked.
"I commissioned an order to be made by them using a large Kyber Crystal." Tarkin said.
"I thought Kyber Crystals were extremely dangerous if they were larger than the ones in Lightsabers." Tenzin said.
"They are. But they made Thor's hammer and the Leviathan Axe. Proving they can make anything useful. And with this weapon...It could mean an end to the war much sooner." Tarkin said
"If it does lead to that I can live with it." Bumi said.
Meanwhile
Sean and the others soon arrived at some plain field.
"We've been walking for an hour. We're never gonna find him." Jinora said.
"Look for who now?"
Jinora shrieked turning around seeing Iroh who laughed.
"Sorry. I couldn't help myself." Iroh said.
"Finally. We've been looking for ya." Sean said.
"I know. The spirits you first met told me." Iroh said.
"We need your help." Sean said.
"About Vaatu. Yes I know." Iroh said.
"We need to know how to stop him for good. Unalaq..." Korra tried to say.
"Wants to merge with him to use the Lay Lines. I know." Iroh said.
"How did you know?" Jinora asked.
"Unalaq learned this from Wan Shi Tong." Iroh said.
"The Spirit who knows ten thousand things." Korra said remembering stories Katara told her when she was younger.
"Yes, Wan Shi Tong found out about the Lay lines and theorized about them. Then Unalaq showed up to his library to learn and found out about Vaatu. Then when he learned about the Force he learned about the Lay Lines from him." Iroh said.
"They must be partnered up. When Unalaq succeeds he'll give him everything thats currently known in the Galaxy. It'll be a paradise for him." Sean said.
"How do we stop Vaatu?" Korra asked.
"The only way you can actually stop them is to imprison Vaatu somewhere where he can cause no harm to anyone. Placing him on another planet is not the answer, Even a dead one." Iroh said.
"So we need to seal him away somewhere more secure and a place thats beyond even Unalaq's reach." Jinora said.
"Yes. Destroying him is not the answer I'm afraid. He'll just reform right back into Raava as he always has." Iroh said.
"Reform?" Korra asked.
"Both light and Darkness are forever connected. Vaatu and Raava are the same. Though Vaatu has never truly won any of his past battles with Raava during the convergence he has come close but it would not matter. For if either destroy the other...They will just reform inside the one standing for the next 10,000 years till the Next Convergence begins." Iroh said.
"So destroying him would be pointless because it would just happen again." Korra said.
"Exactly. You need to find a way to seal him somewhere beyond reach for anyone to find and release him. Unalaq is not the first one to try and set Vaatu free. Many have tried over the years but it was for not. Even if the portals were opened again it would not matter because he would still remain prisoner within the tree of time until the Convergence." Iroh said.
"What do you mean by that?" Sean asked.
"Vaatu is currently imprisoned in the tree of time. It was the only place during Wan's time that could forever hold him for the last 10,000 years. While others have tried to open the portals before in the past it wouldn't make a difference. Because the convergence is the only way they could free him." Iroh said.
"Thats why Unalaq wanted them open so bad. He knows unless both sides are open it'll be pointless. Thats why he lied to you about them needing to be opened up to calm the Dark spirits down." Jinora said.
"Is there any way we could close them in here and delay them?" Korra asked before the whole place shook as a bright light engulfed the place.
"I'm afraid it's too late for that. Both portals have already been opened and are completely secured now by dark forces. You three in your current forms will not be enough." Iroh said.
"So much for that. We'll have to get the United forces here now that we know whats going on." Korra said.
"I very much doubt that Raiko will actually care. If anything I'll bet he's probably more concerned for his own safety rather than save the universe from losing their free will. That much is evident." Sean said.
"We don't have a choice." Korra said as they vanished.
All three appeared back in their bodies.
"Well? Did you find who you were looking for?" Tarkin asked.
"Yeah. Iroh. He told us the only way to stop Vaatu and Unalaq is to seal him away somewhere beyond reach." Sean said.
"Iroh? Fire Lord Zuko's Uncle?" Tenzin asked surprised.
"Long story. Anyway we got a problem. The Sith have just opened up the second portal. And thats all they need to free Vaatu. With even just one of them closed it would still mean he was trapped. But now though." Sean said.
"He has what he needs to be free." Tarkin said.
"We need to get back to Republic City and warn Raiko about this. Theres no way he can ignore this now." Jinora said.
"And if he does...It will give us a reason to remove him from office." Tarkin said.
Meanwhile
"The second portal is now opened. And the Legion forces are spread very thin. They will have no way to stop us." Unalaq said to Vaatu.
"Don't assume too much. If the Sith find out what you are planning they will turn on you in a heartbeat." Vaatu said.
"I am not concerned about them. They have outlived their usefulness." Unalaq said.
"Keep your thoughts to yourself until all is complete. If they find out what you really are doing they will undo what has been done. And I will have to wait another 10,000 years. So do not ruin this." Vaatu said in warning.
"I assure you that will not happen." Unalaq said.
