yes I'm projecting my soulsborne addiction on Inuyasha hehe

this is a canon divergent fic, It is set during the episodes where Kikyo got resurrected but with a little twist, in this version, Inuyasha already knows the truth about Naraku and kikyo's death circumstances, this is the only important information and change, besides that it's all canon divergent later on. new backstories and dynamics.

I want to mention that this is heavily inspired by bloodborne.

Chapter 1: The Dark soul

The tension and uneasiness could be felt in the air. Whispers and gloomy faces can be seen all over the village. Kikyo's grave has been violated and her ashes are gone, this fact alone is enough to make any villager feel unsafe and targeted, their symbol of peace and prosperity had been touched with filthy hands, disgraced by a demon.

What could this Demoness seek but destruction and ill will by stealing her sister's ashes? Lady Kaede was in deep thought, Kikyo her late sister died 50 years ago, and even after all this time and without the sacred jewel around, her poor sister was still the target of many demons.

'I'm sorry Sister I couldn't protect you even after your death' Kaede's face was filled with tears, if she had the power to take the pain and sacrifice her sister had and still does endure she would gladly take them away from her.

"Give it back, give it back…" a woman that strangely looked like her kept repeating these haunting words while looking down.

Kagome was scared, 'is she addressing me?'

The woman finally looked up at her in pain, "Give it back…my soul…please…" Kagome felt her heartbeat stops.

"Kagome! Wake up!" Inuyasha, Miroku, and Shippo kept shouting, she abruptly woke up trying to catch her breath, she felt suffocated. Inuyasha was very worried, just minutes ago he was admiring her sound asleep face when he suddenly noticed her crying, she was in a nightmare no doubt.

"kagome… It was just a nightmare, you are safe now", he reassured her while holding her, she was still in shock, "My soul…?" she said with a sad face looking up at Inuyasha, he was baffled but didn't wish to trouble her giving the state she was in. He didn't enquire and just kept her company while reassuring her that she is safe.

This shining moonlit shape above them was disturbed by a flying figure. Inuyasha's nose twitched; Kagome noticed and gave him a curious look. "Hey guys, look up!" Miroku interrupted the silent moment and the three of them looked at the moon, a flying demoness with a scythe, she was holding something in her hand. Inuyasha frowned; he could smell the old lady Kaede's blood and soil on her, Inuyusha could not ignore this especially after discovering how he and Kikyo were tricked into killing each other, the priestess's sister was also important to him he cannot dismiss her safety. His duty now is to protect anything that held Kikyo's legacy. That was the least he could do to soothe his aching heart.

"Guys, we have to go I sense danger coming from the village,"

"Is lady Kaede in danger?" Kagome asked.

"I can't be sure for now, we have to check on her," Inuyasha said with a worried tone.

Kagome nodded and stood up with the help of Inuyasha, they all gathered their things and departed to the village.

Kaede was standing in front of her sister's violated grave; it's been two days since the incident, and she was expecting something bad to happen but it didn't yet, she heard footsteps coming up to her

'Inuyasha! Could it be he is the bad thing that will happen?' she thought.

"Inuyasha!, perfect timing,"

"Granny, so you are alive, goodbye then." Inuyasha turned back in his tracks,

"Inuyasha is that it?" Miroku was embarrassed by his companion's behavior toward the old lady.

"Inuyasha could it be you were worried about me?" the old lady said in disbelief.

Inuyasha stopped in his tracks and was about to deny but Kagome's threatening aura prevented him from doing so.

"Lady Kaede what is that." Kagome pointed toward the hole in the earth behind Kaede, Inuyasha, and the others finally noticed as well.

"Yeah… seriously what is that…?" Inuyasha asked with uneasiness, he knew something bad had happened here; the demoness had Kaede's blood scent after all.

"Oh…that's my sister's grave", Kaede answered while looking down with sadness.

Inuyasha was shocked his face demanded an explanation from the old lady,

"two days ago, a demoness by the name of Urasue showed up and took my sister's ashes. Sister Kikyo was a powerful priestess you know that more than anyone Inuyasha, please bring her ashes back, nothing good could come out of this."

Inuyasha looked down deep in thought, he was sad, kikyo can't have peace even after her death. He would never allow anyone to harm her any longer, and he will bring her ashes back and then kill whoever had even the slightest thought of using kikyo for their demonic schemes.

"Inuyasha…" Kagome whispered while looking at him in concern, she knew this was a big problem for him too, especially after he found out the truth. Inuyasha looked at Kaede masking very well his sadness, "Granny, stay here we will go kill some demons."

'Kikyo…tricked into killing your loved one and now this…', "Kagome." Inuyasha snapped her out of her thoughts,

"I want you to stay in the village." Inuyasha interrupted her before she could protest "please…"

That's right he wanted her to stay here, chances are this demon is trying to resurrect Kikyo and Inuyasha doesn't wanna be put in a situation where he could potentially hurt kagome's feelings, she would spare him that. As much as she wants to accompany them, Kagome wasn't feeling well, no one noticed but she didn't recover yet from her nightmare, in fact, she feels like something is missing from her, part of her soul.

"as you wish Inuyasha, go save Kikyo, me and Lady Kaede will stay here and look after the village." Everyone looked at her in disbelief, "Kagome-sama?" Miroku was concerned.

"Don't worry everyone I'm fine, just go." She smiled.

Inuyasha could sense something was wrong with her, that is the main reason he wanted her to stay here, everything could go wrong in their battle and he didn't want to risk Kagome's life, for he had lost enough already.

"Kagome be safe, we will be back as soon as possible," he said while holding her shoulders, she smiled at him.

"Inuyasha, thank you." Lady Kaede was happy; Inuyasha was the only person who could save her sister right now.

Inuyasha looked back at her, and then at his companions, "let's go guys." They departed

"Bye kagome!"

"Goodbye shippo"

Blood, the smell of blood and flesh mixed with the fresh smell of salt coming from the sea, a mountain of demon corpses, Kagome watched with horror

'Where am I?'

A deformed-looking demon was walking; she tensed and reached out for her arrows. She didn't find them

'No way…' she was defenseless, the demon was coming in her direction but he didn't seem like he was going to attack her. When he approached she realized that he was talking.

"Midoriko… Midoriko… priestesses… blasphemous murderers…Bloodthirsty fiends … atonement for the wretch… By the wrath of Naraku… lay the curse of the Dark soul upon her…upon her children and her children's children…forevermore." He walked past a shocked Kagome still repeating the same words over and over. The demon was in pain, she could hear some nasty noises coming from his throat.

'What is this!? Is it a nightmare again? Please make it stop' she held her head and fell to her knees, the smell and the atmosphere is making her sick and the demon who keeps repeating the same phrase is making her feel worse.

Someone grabbed her ankle; Kagome gasped in terror "kill her," "curse..." "Mercy…", agonizing voices kept screaming, she couldn't take it anymore.

"KAGOME!"
