Heyyooo! It's me! (ha) Super short chapter here, but I've picked this story back up because it's about damn time I finish it, right? So, you won't have to wait nearly as long as before for the next chapters. Ah, also, I went back in the previous chapters and changed a few minor things and one major thing. Go back a re-read them if you'd like or need a refresher! (That's what I did...) Um, the major change is that "James" is now named "Michael". If you know FNAF lore, then you will understand why. I follow the games' lore, btw. Anyways, enjoy this little appetizer to Free's revival!
Lea could not fall asleep that night. They had gone to bed far earlier than usual. Not to mention, tomorrow they would be gathering up in Ms. Westin's van and leaving. Leaving, she thought. Leaving her childhood home, the only place she had ever known, for who knew how long. Maybe only a few weeks. Maybe only a few months. Maybe even forever. It was both frightening and exciting, but it was also preventing her from getting any sleep. How long had she been laying there?
She lifted her head and peered over her shoulder at Bonnie. Ever since the first night that she had brought him home, he slept in the bed with her every night. He liked to lay between her and the wall and somehow managed not to take up so much space that she wouldn't have any room.
Lea's eyes had adjusted to the darkness of her room hours ago, so with the help of the faint moonlight shining through the thin curtains, she could make him out in the dark rather well. Judging by his closed eyes and the quiet sound of his steady breaths (she still wondered about that), she could tell he was fast asleep. Careful not to rouse him, she slipped out from under the covers and lightly placed her feet upon the floor. The carpet helped to silence her footsteps as she slowly made her way over to the door and grabbed the doorknob. She looked back at him as she slowly turned the knob and opened the door. He did not stir. Then, she stepped out and closed the door, but left a crack so she would not have to make noise again later when she returned.
Out in the hall, Lea went right and made her way over to Alex's old room; the room that now belonged to Foxy. Ever since that one stormy night, the door to this room was kept open. Lea stopped in the doorway to look.
Foxy was sleeping on top of the bed instead of hiding beneath it. He was laying on his belly with his arms crossed under his side-turned head. Every now and again, his tail swished and curled as he dreamed and his ears would twitch.
Cute, she thought before leaving and making her way across the hall towards the master bedroom. This is where Alex now slept. The door was already ajar, so Lea lightly pushed it aside.
Alex was fast asleep like the others and sharing the queen-sized bed with Freddy. Lea was a little surprised. At two things, really. One: Alex had allowed one of the animatronics to stay with her while she slept, and two: Freddy was actually asleep. Lea had never encountered him in a sleeping state and had begun to wonder if he even slept at all. Guess she knew the answer to that question now. As for her sister, it appeared that Alex was truly warming up to the spirit-possessed robots. A funny thought in Lea's mind.
She closed the door back to its original state then made her way into the living room. She felt a little bad that Chica had to sleep on the couch, but Chica did not seem very bothered. She was currently sleeping in a pile of plush toys, her favorite cat held tightly in her arms.
Everyone else was asleep. Lea wondered if the Puppet was sleeping too, but opening the attic would make far too much noise. So, instead, she quietly made her way back into the hall and headed for her room. However, an odd feeling of anxiety struck her suddenly about halfway through the hall and she froze in her tracks. Without any real explanation behind the action, she suddenly turned to her left and opened the door to the laundry room. Her heart leaped and flared with fear at the sight of a golden animatronic sitting slumped against the wall. It looked an awful lot like Freddy.
As she stared, unmoving, at the thing's limp form, an ear-splitting ringing suddenly filled her mind. Lea let out a short shout from the pain and grabbed her head, crouching to the ground in a fetal position. The sound was so loud that it hurt; it was unbearable. Somewhere within the noise, though, she could make out a distorted voice.
"I bROkE HiS boNeS juST LIkE he dId MiNE."
Stop, Lea thought. Stop it! But the ringing continued, louder.
"WHy DOeS hE geT to GO FrEe?"
I don't know what you're talking about. Stop it! "Go away!" Lea shouted. Suddenly, the ringing stopped, but her ears still felt strange. She looked up, but the golden Freddy was gone. Had she imagined it?
"Lea?"
She practically fell over as she spun to see who was there. "Bonnie," Lea sighed with relief.
"Are you okay?" He looked worried. "Are you hurt?"
"I… No. I'm fine." She stood up and closed the laundry room door behind her. "I…had a really bad headache or something. Sorry, did I wake you?"
"Oh, well… Your shouting didn't, but…" he trailed off and turned away, seemingly embarrassed. "You weren't there when I woke up."
"Sorry. I couldn't sleep, so I went to check on the others." She took his hand and led him back into her room.
"You should at least try," he told her as he climbed back into bed. "Maybe it'll help with your headaches?"
"Heh, yeah." Maybe she really was just tired. Perhaps even mentally exhausted.
Lea joined him on the bed, turned to face him, and snuggled up close to him. That horrible ringing and the pain were now gone, and Bonnie strangely felt as warm as another human being. Feeling warm and safe now, it did not take long for her to finally fall asleep.
To be continued…
