Day 14 – Chocolate
Bucky stood outside Clint's apartment and heard Clint apparently coughing up a lung. "Friday?"
"I've unlocked the door, Sargent Barnes."
"Thanks." Bucky opened the door and went straight to Clint's bedroom. "Clint? What the hell?"
Clint was spread out over his covers, trying to catch his breath between coughs and curling into a ball, holding his stomach. "Bucky?" The archer hoarsely whispered, his throat raw from all the hacking.
In no time, Bucky was at Clint's bedside. "Doll, what's going on? You were fine in debrief." Bucky swept some stray locks of hair from Clint's forehead.
Clint shrugged his shoulders and, in between coughs, muttered, "Don't know."
"Friday? Can you play back the mission from Clint's point of view?"
"Of course." Bucky turned toward the monitor in Clint's room and watched what happened while Clint was stationed on a rooftop. Towards the end of the fight against AIM, Bucky saw a plume of smoke encircle Clint, then immediately dissipate. "Do you remember that?"
Clint shook his head. "Figured…battle."
Bucky thought for a bit. Remembering the debrief, he couldn't think of anything odd that had happened. "One more favor, Friday. Can you show me what Clint did when he got back to his room after debriefing?"
"Sure thing." Bucky turned back to the monitor and watched Clint come into his apartment, take off his boots, then go to the kitchen. The next thing he saw was Clint running from the kitchen to the bathroom, then collapsing onto his bed. "Did you want me to call Doctor Banner?"
"Please."
Soon, Bruce showed up. He examined Clint, who begrudgingly allowed Bruce to take blood samples. Bucky paced around the apartment while waiting for the results. "You're not going to believe this." Tony's voice came through the speaker.
"At this point," Bucky said, "I'll believe anything."
"AIM doused him with something that made him allergic to chocolate. Bruce is on his way up with a shot."
Bucky sat down and put his head in his hand. "How and why does this happen to you, Clint?" After Bruce returned and administered the shot, Bucky watched as Clint finally stopped coughing. "Feeling better?"
Clint drank about half a glass of water, then answered. "Yeah. Damn AIM, go and ruin chocolate for me."
"Bruce said it's temporary, should only last a couple of weeks." Bucky looked at Clint. "Guess this means I'll have to return the box of chocolates I bought you for Valentine's Day." He smirked.
Clint threw a pillow at him in response.
