Updates will be slow as I have another job, but I will make an effort to update as much as I can. This chapter is about Kara and Lena. Without further ado, let us begin.

Chapter Fifteen- A Step in The Right Direction?

After the rally at National City University, Kara had taken up Lena's offer to talk. She could not put this off any longer and she knew one day that Lena would find her and would want answers. Lena had taken her a townhouse in the city, as she told her to make herself comfortable as she prepared some tea for her.

Kara took a deep breath as she wondered what would happen after this day. The inside of the townhouse looked quaint and had some Victorian features to it; it had a unique charm. She guessed that Lena might have had something to do with that. One of the walls had a photo of a woman and a young Lena smiling, she surmised that it might have been her mother. There were other photos here and there as she noticed the place felt somewhat homey. She held one of the photos and wondered who the man was in the photo that was smiling at Lena. For some reason, she felt she saw him somewhere before.

"Do you like what you see?"

Kara turned around to see Lena with her arms crossed with a simple smile on her face. Kara returned her smile as she placed the photo back on the table.

"I guess I do. If you do not mind me asking, who is the person in the photo?"

Lena had a playful smile on her face.

"A friend… no… he is more than a friend for me." Lena was not sure what she would call her relationship with Naruto at this time. He was not a friend now, he was more than that. Even though they had not made love to each other, she felt that he was an important piece of her heart and someone she hoped to spend her life with till she passed.

Kara nodded. She wished she had someone like that in her life, someone who was more than a friend for her.

"And if you don't mind me asking… who is the woman in the photo?"

Lena's smile then changed from a playful one to one of sadness.

"She is my mother. She died before her time." For Lena, the death of her mother was still a topic she did not like to discuss.

"I am sorry, Lena. I really am." She felt sympathy for her as she too lost her own mother.

"Think nothing of it. You had no idea."

Kara decided to change topics. "Your house is very beautiful. It has a European aesthetic to it. Despite that, it does not feel stuffy or gaudy. Its actually elegant and feels like a home."

"Why thank you. Excuse me, I will be right back."

Lena went to her kitchen and emerged from it with a small cup of tea for Kara. She had to admit that the smell was amazing. She was a bit hesitant to drink as Lena gave her a smile.

"I assure you its not poisoned or laced with a truth serum. Its just a good cup of tea."

The cup was piping hot as Kara sipped it and enjoyed the taste and continued to drink without worrying about how hot it was. Lena shook her head as she realized more truths were confirmed for her. Kara drank from it like the temperature meant nothing. Things were now confirmed for her that Kara was indeed different and unique.

Lena took a seat in front of her as Kara put the cup down and was anxious about what Lena was talking about. She was dreading this moment ever since she learned that Alex went to confront Lena months before. She shook her head at that stunt, but there was no going back now. All she could hope for was that things would go well after this day.

Lena chuckled a little as Kara was now confused. "Its okay… I don't bite. You have nothing to worry about when it comes to me. Besides, if I ever did anything you, I imagine I would have Alexandra Danvers baying for my blood till the end of my days, and I have no interest in that."

Kara gulped a little. "Oh… okay. Then… what is it you want to talk about?"

Kara then noticed that the smile radiating from Lena's face disappeared and was replaced by an air of confidence, of steel, of such resolve and strength that Kara had never seen before.

"Kara… I want to talk about a day where National City was on fire. I want to talk about a day where aliens emerged from a portal and a man and a woman fought a freak while humanity screamed below. I want to talk about a day where people screamed for their loved ones as they held their corpses begging for God to give them a way out of their misery. I want to talk about a day where a woman saw her mother lying dead and she could do nothing about it."

"Yet… most importantly… I want to talk about you. I wish to speak about a woman in plain clothes who appeared out of nowhere when the chaos was raging and saved my life. I want to talk about the angel who swooped down from the sky and held me while I was dying. I want to talk about the woman who's wyes glowed red as she cauterized my wound. I want to talk about the woman whose actions saved my life and costed me the ability to ever be a mother. I want to talk about you… Kara Danvers."

Kara shook her head as she buried her face in her hands. This was the first time she had actually met someone whose life was altered by the Incident, and whose life she irrevocably changed. She had to wonder if there was more she could have done that day. Perhaps, she could have involved herself in that battle and stopped it. Perhaps if she took greater action, she would have never lost her cousin. Perhaps, the body count would not have been so high.

She was shaken out of her musings once again when she heard Lena speak, and the words that came out of her mouth shocked her to her core.

"I want you to know Kara… that I don't blame you for what happened to me and I forgave you a long while back."

Kara was shocked by what Lena said. She had an incredulous, unreadable expression on her face as Lena smiled gently at her.

"You seem… confused."

Kara now decided to speak. "Of course I am confused! You are sitting here and telling me you do not blame me for anything that happened to you, why? I robbed you of your ability to have children. I ruined your life. You are not angry, you are not upset, you are just… calm and reasonable and understanding. How… how can you sit there and act like I did nothing wrong to you?"

Lena sighed.

"Kara… I really don't blame you for this. You were put in a difficult position and you saved my life when you never had too. You could have let me die, but you chose to save me. Yes, I lost my ability to have children, and I may never be able to have children, but there's nothing that can be done about it now. We can only move forward with life. I hope you can forgive yourself and move forward with your own life."

Kara could not really believe what she was hearing.

"I know you might find it hard to believe, but this is the truth. Instead of holding onto grief, I want to live my life and move on from the past, not let it define me. I hope you and I can be friends, good friends."

Kara looked at the hand that Lena offered her. She could see in her eyes that there was no hint of malice or plots. What Lena was offering her was sincere and genuine friendship, and Kara took her hand and accepted the offer of friendship.

"You have a strong grip."

"Yeah… I have been told that before."

The two of them started speaking about their own lives as they bonded over the darkness of the respective lives.

However, Lena hoped she could learn more.

"Kara… I have to ask. How are you able to do the things you do?"

Kara was wary and focused now. How would she able to truly explain that she came from another planet whose people under a yellow sun could do things that would defy belief in so many things. She decided to wisely keep this under wraps, there was no way Lena could believe it.

"Oh… that… well, I just you know, do my exercises and eat right… the normal stuff…"

Lena laughed. "Really? So exercise and a balanced diet allows you to fire energy beams from your eyes and look flawless? Forgive me for being skeptical Kara, but I won't insult your intelligence if you do not insult mine."

Kara was internally sweating. "Lena… I am being serious. I was born with my gifts on this planet. All these things I can do, I can do them from birth. I know you think that's a lie, but I assure you, it's the truth."

Lena narrowed her eyes and sighed. Kara was indeed hiding the gravity of her truth from her, and she could respect that. They were not truly friends yet, and she was sure the truth was more bigger than what she could imagine. She did not want to scare Kara away which was the last thing on her mind. She needed to keep an eye on her, lest her mother ever find out where Kara was hiding.

"Very well. I understand that you do not wish to share your truth with me. Its fine. I hope one day you will find me worthy to share your life story with me. I can wait for that day. However, I did not simply ask you to come to my home to learn your story. I also wanted to thank you."

Kara was shocked again. "… you want to thank me? What do you want to thank me for?"

"I have to admit, you are a sort of inspiration for me."

"I am not sure how I could inspire you in any way."

Lena chuckled a little. "The truth of the matter is, you have inspired me Kara. After my stay in the hospital, I realized I was wasting my life and my God given intellect. Despite great personal risk, you acted to save my life. I am not sure what you are doing with your life right now, but that's neither here nor there."

"You inspired me to use my own talents to help those who are in need. Ever since the Incident, aliens and metahumans have been persecuted and tortured and have not had access to even a fair trial. I want to change all that and be a voice for them and to help them in my own way. You know, just like the Ironwoman and that Masked Vigilante."

Kara was in thought when it came to those two, and the risks they were taking to protect those who needed help.

Lena smiled gently while Kara was lost in her thoughts, as she decided to test her further.

"Yes. I have no idea who those two individuals are, but they are risking a great deal to help the aliens and those in need. … We need more people like them. You Kara, are a source of inspiration for me."

Kara was lost in all this praise that Lena was giving her and it unnerved her. She was not accustomed to any of this, and truthfully, she felt she was not deserving of it. She needed to leave right this second.

She got up slowly and shook Lena's hand, as she went to leave.

"I hope Kara that you come and pay me a visit again in the future. Please do not be a stranger. I am quite sure we can learn a lot from one another. I think this is the start of a great friendship."

Kara nodded as she left Lena's home and walked to her apartment. Once she was inside, she sat on her sofa and pondered Lena's words.

Lena had no hate for her, in fact she was inspired by her. Truth be told, Kara was inspired by the Iron Woman and the Masked Vigilante who had been making waves in National City. Deep in her heart, she felt she too could use her abilities for good. And so, she walked to her closet and looked at the suit lying in it, and made her mind to help those who needed it.

Little did Kara Zor-El realize that her decision was about to bring unneeded attention to her life. Little did she realize that soon her life was about to go to hell in a handbasket.
