Song to Listen to while reading this chapter: "If I could Tell Her" from Dear Evan Hansen the Musical

"Welcome back to Be My Valentine! I am your host Tracy and this is my brother Jones." Tracy waved at the camera, as she dragged her younger brother by the other arm.

"Yeah so uh today, some of our main hosts will be absent. Apparently, Lou was foraging for food and came across the hallucinating mushrooms again so she's out cold for the day." Jones explained.

"And ever since Caitlin declared that she might come back today, Carlos and Evie decided not to come to work for a mental health day." Tracy added.

"Don't worry though, we have them on face call while we're conducting this segment via Genie Meet (parody of Google Meet)." Jones motioned to the screen where we can see Carlos and Evie sharing the same laptop from their dorms.

"But I'm still here." Jay pointed out, before he introduced himself, "Name's Jay, and this pretty feisty girl is my date."

"No flirting while we're on duty." Tracy pointed out, hiding a blush.

"So introducing our new temporary co-host…Rainey Andrews." Jones announced, as a tall and largely built girl walked over.

"Nice to be here. My sister Gina just told me about this place the other day." Rainey waved over, before giving each host a warm welcoming hug and/or handshake.

"Don't forget my other partner-in-crime…Spyder!" Rainey suddenly declares, as Spyder walks out and smiles at the camera.

"Thanks for having us over, especially if this particular segment has something to do with our friends." Spyder looped an arm around Rainey's shoulder.

"And I can't miss out if it has something to do with my twin brother." Rainey nodded in unison.

"Where are the rest of the Mech X4 members then?" Carlos quipped in.

"They're among the guest audience. There's Mark, Regina, Harris and Veracity over there." Spyder pointed at their friends sitting next to the director.

"Does this always happen?" Mark asked.

"Get used to it, this is my story and I'm running the show." The authoress shrugged.

"Then why is Regina asking Mark to carry a live size cardboard cutout of some guy?" Jay asked, wondering why the cardboard cutout is in the room.

"That is not some guy, this is Xiumin from EXO." Regina gasped, she looked almost offended.

"Alright, I double checked and secured all the locks and security system. HOPEFULLY Caitlin won't try to barge in on us or try to bother the said people we will be observing today." Tracy announced, walking back to the hosts and extra guests.

"Well the show was very peaceful while Caitlin hasn't barged in." Jones muttered to himself under his breath.

"Alright, time to play the clips." Jay announced as he hit the play button.

~ Characters: Ryan Walker (Mech X4), Yasmin Jagpal (Skater Girl from Mech X4) and Ranger Andrews ~

[This one-shot takes place before season 2 finale]

Once again, it's Valentines' Day at East Bay City High.

Many students were busy either asking out their crushes, kissing their significant others, or were crying over being rejected by their crushes.

"So how many love letters did you get this time, Mark?" Ryan Walker asked his older brother Mark.

"Not as much as I used to back in Bay City High," Mark opened his locker as a small pile of love letters and notes fell from it, before adding "but still a lot."

"Guess what? I asked Casey Park out." Their friend/teammate Spyder came running towards them with a gleeful look on his face.

"She said yes?" Ryan exclaimed in disbelief, remembering the school journalist whom Spyder previously had a crush on.

"No. but she does remember my name this time." Spyder grinned.

"Yeah I don't think someone rejecting you is worth smiling for." Veracity Campbell pointed out.

"Says the same person who just rejected 3 guys from your Computer Club." Harris Harris Jr stated the obvious.

"It's easier to be the person who rejects than the person who is rejected." Regina Andrews spoke out, before she read another secret love note she received. She was in the same grade as Mark and is inarguably one of the most popular girls at school given her good looks and cool aura.

"Sis, you have high standards when it comes to people who've asked you out." Ranger Andrews grimaced at his older sister. "The only person you've ever been in love with is Xiumin from EXO."

"Exactly." Regina winked at her siblings and friends.

"So, did you receive any Valentines?" Ryan asked his friends.

"Of course, if you count the letters you get from the Andrews twins." Veracity drily said, holding up a holiday card their cheerful friends made for everyone.

"Oh yeah, but the best card is definitely by my girlfriend." Mark grinned, holding up a card his girlfriend Georgia gave him.

"Rainey and I also exchanged our Valentine's Day cards too." Harris blushed a bit at his girlfriend Rainey.

"We get it, you're dating. Stop rubbing it in our faces." Ryan grimaced at his brother and two friends who are in relationships, as he motioned to himself and a few of their single friends.

"I mean it doesn't have to be a lonely day of misery and heartbreak, wanna make it a date instead?" Spyder is now attempting to flirt with Veracity instead.

"Ooh maybe we can make it a double date." Rainey grinned, looping her arm over Veracity's.

"I never got a say in any of this." Veracity tried to protest but ultimately agreed to spend their day off hanging out.

"Wait did you two actually convinced your crushes to go out on a double date with you?" Evie asked.

"Yup." Spyder grinned.

"Chances are we will be watching the double date as some of the ship clips next year." Jones stated.

"Shush, young OC, you should not spoil or ruin my writing list." The authoress hissed over from behind the camera.

"Oh come on, we all know that's the truth." Tracy snorted in response. Being a mind reader has its advantages and disadvantages.

"Back to the video?" Jay asked, as Rainey nodded and resumed the video.

-Resume-

"What about you, Range, has anyone asked you out yet?" Ryan looked at his friend.

"A couple have, but I turned them down." Ranger shrugged, before closing his locker door.

"Anyways, it's Home Ec class soon, so I have to get ready to fire extinguisher." Ranger excused himself before he started to rush to class. Since Rainey is his twin sister, she has the tendency to accidentally cause havoc in the kitchen when cooking is involved.

Things got worse on the twins first day at Bay City High School when they were seated next to Spyder in Home Ec, and that was how the three of them became friends. Because little did the Home Ec teacher knew he had put the most destructive cook next to the most destructive daredevil of Bay City together.

"Wow, he sure left in a hurry." Mark commented, watching their friend carry a heavy fire extinguisher and walking away.

"Of course he is. Rainey is gonna bake later." Regina stated dryly, before the rest of the Mech X4 members gulped. (save for Rainey who was going through her notebook full of recipes)

"Oh, Rains, you didn't have to." Harris plastered a smile, trying to sugar-coat the truth from his girlfriend that she is indeed a terrible cook.

While all that was going on, Ryan opened his locker before a Valentines' day card fell from inside. Strange, this wasn't there earlier…

The card didn't even have the sender's name.

"Nice, you got your own secret Valentine admirer, bro." Mark seemed happy for his brother's achievement and ruffled his hair.

Meanwhile with Yasmin

Yasmin was minding her own business and was skating her way to her locker, but paused when she caught sight of Ryan Walker talking to his friends and laughed.

Not gonna lie, she has always thought Ryan was very attractive. And not just because he is the younger brother of Bay City High's infamous Mark Walker.

There was just something so mysterious about Ryan, he was strangely always missing whenever Monster attacks happen. And he's quite good at skating as well.

She attended one of the skating competition a few months back, and Ryan Walker's skating moves surely caught her eye.

"Hi there, happy Valentine's Day." Her classmate Ranger Andrews walked over to her and greeted her.

"Hey Ranger. Why are you holding a fire extinguisher to the Home Ec room?" Yasmin questioned.

She was sorta used to the strange behaviour of the Andrews siblings (mainly the twins Rainey and Ranger), but it is still puzzling why he often carries around first aid kits or fire extinguishers.

"Oh. My sister is planning to bake Valentine's Day brownies in class later. Can't be too careful." Ranger replied.

Ranger noticed the look Yasmin was giving to Ryan. There was no doubt that she definitely has a crush on Ryan, based on her body language and how she would sneak glances at Ryan whenever they meet.

"So, Ryan Walker huh?" Ranger asked with a tiny smile.

"Yeah, isn't he cute?" Yasmin giggled, looking over at Ryan.

"I…suppose he is attractive as a person." Ranger cleared his throat, before excusing himself. "He thinks you're pretty as well. He likes the way your hair look by the way."

"He does?" this sure peaked Yasmin's interest.

Realizing he's said too much, Ranger made an excuse to leave.

Not too long after, Yasmin came across three of Ryan's friends: Harris, Spyder and Veracity.

"Isn't Valentines' Day just the most romantic time of the year?" Spyder grinned cheerfully at Yasmin.

"You got rejected by your former crush and you still bounce back up." Harris pointed out.

"Valentines' Day is the only day you get brave and/or dumb enough to try to voice out declarations of love." Veracity corrected. "I should know; my dads would try to outdo each other every Valentine's Day with a secret surprise."

"Maybe you should tell your crush you like them." Spyder encouraged Yasmin with a big smile, before Veracity yanked him away and ushered him to class.

"C'mon Love Guru, our class starts in less than 10 minutes!" Veracity grumbled.

"Maybe I should…" Yasmin thought to herself as she blushed at the sight of Ryan.

After School, in Mech X4

Ryan was quite nervous about something, he seemed quite worked up about the mystery love note he received earlier.

His friend Ranger Andrews was penning something down on a piece of paper, when he noticed his groupmate pacing back and forth.

"So you wanna talk about your problems, are or you trying to dig up a hole in this battle bot?" Ranger asked, noticing his friend pacing back and forth in Mech X4's common area.

"I found this mystery note from my locker earlier today." Ryan took out the mystery note he received, "but there was no name."

"Probably for the mystery." Ranger answered, nervously averting eye contact, "Someone must have a crush on you."

"Are you sure this isn't just a random mistake for one of Mark's admirers to mistake my locker for his?" Ryan asked.

"Don't sell yourself short, even though you are." Ranger shook his head, before apologized when Ryan glared upwards at the Andrews.

"You are worthy of love, Ryan. Somewhere out there is someone who thinks you're a great guy and will cherish you. Don't ever forget that." Ranger insisted.

"Well, it's just I was wondering if I should ask out this person I have a crush on." Ryan spoke out.

"Oh, what are they like?" Ranger asked, sitting up straight and leaning forward.

"She is so pretty, and athletic, and spunky too." Ryan began to list out the traits of his crush. He wasn't aware of Ranger averting eye contact for a few seconds before turning his gaze back to his friend.

"And who's the lucky lady?" Ranger asked, before he joked, "Is it Former Principal Grey?"

"EWW NO! Why would you think I'd have a crush on someone who tried to kill us a few times?" Ryan gagged loudly at the memory of their former principal who was working as the enemy.

"That did happen with my oldest brother and his girlfriend." Ranger shrugged, "but carry on. Who's your crush?"

"Yasmin. She's that cute skater girl you sometimes see me trying to talk to." Ryan smiled brightly at the mention of his crush.

"Oh. You mean the time you tried to do a cool skate move but failed terribly?" Ranger mused a bit at Ryan's previous failed attempts of flirting.

"What do you think of Yasmin? Do you have a crush on her too?" Ryan asked, hoping that his friend wasn't going after the same girl as he was, "You two were chatting earlier."

"Me? On her? No way. She's cool and all, but she is not exactly my type." Ranger grimaced in response.

"What about you? What are you writing there?" Ryan peeked over at what his friend was writing.

"Uh don't look." Ranger nervously hid the paper from Ryan. It's a good thing puberty hit Ranger like a train because he has grown to be taller than Ryan. Also the fact that he's a shapeshifter and can easily extend his limbs is a bonus advantage against prying people. "It's personal!"

"Ok fine. I won't ask if it bothers you so much." Ryan grumbled.

"It's fine." Ranger mumbled to himself, before he gave an encouraging smile, "You should go and confess to her, I think she might like you back."

"You really think so?" Ryan broke into a hopeful smile.

"Yeah, I talked to her earlier today, she said a lot of kind things about you." Ranger blurted out.

"Did she say anything else?" Ryan asked, eager.

"About you?" Ranger blinked.

"Of course. She thought you were attractive." Ranger stated, hiding a blush.

"Anyone would be lucky to date you, Ry. You are brave, funny, caring, heroic, and a superhuman too." Ranger began listing some of Ryan's best traits, before his cheeks turned pink.

"Yeah, but she doesn't know that." Ryan huffed a bit, thinking it wasn't fair that he can't use his technopath powers to impress her. That would reveal his identity as a superhuman and one of the pilots of Mech X4.

"I can't exactly say the same about crushing on someone who doesn't know of your secret powers…But if you don't tell her how you feel now, you might regret it later on." Ranger looked at his feet.

"Thanks for the advice, Ranger." Ryan beamed, before he started to leave.

"Wait, I…" Ranger tried to call out to Ryan, but hesitated.

"What?" Ryan asked.

"Nothing. Good luck. I'll be cheering for you." Ranger gave a smile to his friend, as Ryan stepped foot into the elevator.

As soon as Ryan had left, Ranger's smile vanished.

I suppose sending a love note to his crush anonymously might not have been the best idea. But it was better than not even trying, and Ryan likely would have dismissed Ranger's attempt of confession as a friendly thing.

Plus, Ryan might be repulsed by Ranger's feelings for him, not to mention Ryan is definitely more attracted to girls than the possibility of him returning the feelings.

Besides, he is just nothing but a friend to Ryan anyways. He should be content with just that. Right?

-Pause Screen-

"What do you mean by 'Ranger has a crush on Ryan'?" Mark asked, his voice growing louder without realizing it.

"Oh you didn't know?" Regina snorted.

"No, nobody told us. All this time I just thought he only likes my brother as a friend." Mark assumed.

"Nope," Regina shook her head. "Congrats Mark, you are officially the second last person of the crew to know."

"And you guys figured it out?" Mark asked the rest of his crewmates, as Harris, Rainey and Spyder all nodded.

"We did along the way." Veracity nodded.

"Is Ryan aware of this?" Mark asked.

"Nope, and thanks to our meddling, he might never." Harris grumbled a bit.

"Oh…poor guy." Mark realized what is going to happen.

"Guys, get the Heartbreak Care Package ready." Regina sent an emergency text to the rest of the Andrews family members.

On the other side of the studio…

"Uh oh." Jones blinked, his face turning pale.

"What is it?" Jay asked.

"The Caitlin Alert signal just rang," Jones exclaimed.

"Finish the clips before Caitlin arrives, or hell will break lose." Tracy yelped, before she and Jones started to enable the security system just in case.

"Who is Caitlin?" Mark asked.

"The worst person you can know." Evie explained with a frown, as everyone continued rolling the clips.

-Resume-

At the skate park…

Yasmin decided to spend the day practicing her skating moves. That is until a familiar face showed up.

"Yasmin." Ryan ran towards her, before he stopped to catch a breath.

"Hey Ryan." Yasmin smiled.

"Look, I have something to tell you." Ryan began.

"Oh, me too." Yasmin gave Ryan a shy smile.

"Why don't you go first? Ladies first."

"But you wanted to say it first." Yasmin insisted.

"I really like you, a lot." Ryan confessed with a hopeful smile.

"And I like you too, a lot." Yasmin blushed, as she tucked a strand her hair behind her ear. "But…I don't really know you that well."

"Maybe we could try to get to know each other better." Ryan offered, he was glad to get to know his crush better even though the chances are his missions would keep his dating life busy.

"So how about we go out for a smoothie?" Yasmin asked, reaching out a hand at him.

"I'd like that very much." Ryan smiled back, as he took her hand and both teens walked away laughing and talking.

Meanwhile…

Ranger stood behind a tree, holding a letter in his hands that might never be sent out to his crush.

"Happy Valentines' Day, Ryan. I have a crush on you. –Ranger"

He was happy for Ryan and Yasmin, he truly was. Yasmin seems like a good person and would get along well with Ryan over their shared interests in skating.

But at the same time, part of him is heartbroken that Ryan might never see him as nothing more than a good friend.

A brief musical interlude to break your feels

[Ryan:]

"But what do you, when there's this great divide?"

[Yasmin:]

"He just seems so far away..."

[Ranger:]

"And what do you when the distance is too wide?"

[Yasmin:]

"It's like I don't know anything."

[Ranger:]

"And how do you say...I love you."

[Ranger and Ryan:]

"I love you..."

[Ryan to Yasmin:]

"I love you."

[Yasmin and Ryan:]

"I love you..."

[All three teens:]

"But we're a million worlds apart,"

"And I don't know how I would even start...If I could tell her/him..."

-If I Could Tell Her from Dear Evan Hansen the Musical, but some lyrics are altered

~Clips End~

"That was very sweet, but also very sad." Evie sighed, trying not to cry too much.

"Yeah I am happy for Ryan and Yasmin working out." Carlos gave a sad smile, trying to comfort his girlfriend from crying too much.

"Yeah, and we managed to wrap everything up before any chaotic happens." Jay smiled.

"NOT FOR LONG." A voice shouted out, as everyone started to scream. It was Caitlin, who had somehow hacked into the TV system and is now on face time call with Evie and Carlos.

"Oh no, it's hideous!" Regina shrieked, covering her younger sister's eyes.

"That's how I feel when I have to look at my sister every day." Jones joked before his sister punched his shoulder.

Meanwhile with the Mech X4 crew who indirectly encouraged Yasmin to go out with Ryan…

"We take this secret to the grave." Spyder told Rainey, Harris and Veracity.

"Agreed." Harris nodded, and Veracity zipped her lips.

"To. The. Grave." Veracity whisper-yelled to reaffirm their little secret. [Reference to Andi Mack when Cyrus and Buffy accidentally convinced Jonah to go back to his ex Amber in season 1 episode 7 "Dad Influence]

"Fine, but if my brother ends up being a heartbroken cat man, this is all your fault." Rainey hissed over.

"Get her out of here, now!" Jay whisper-yelled to the Chimokuri duo.

"What can we do? She's hacked into the system." Tracy asked, before Harris kicked Caitlin out of the video chat and blocked her.

"Well that should help for now." Regina nodded, glad of Harris's actions.

"That was a nice conclusion for this year's Be My Valentine segment." Carlos spoke out as everyone else nodded in agreements.

"So which couple will we be checking out next time?" Jones asked, "and by next time I mean next year."

"Ok we got 2 minutes before Caitlin comes over, so we have to wrap this up fast and use the escape pods to get out." Tracy stated.

"Ok, don't rush me. The next couple will be…drumroll please." Spyder waved a hand dismissively, as Rainey drummed.

"Jane and Emmerich"

"Who are Jane and Emmerich?" Spyder asked out loud.

"Jane's a friend of ours." Carlos explained.

"And Emmerich is also one of our classmates and he has a crush on her." Evie squealed a little at the joyful news.

"Meanwhile, we have an emergency family meeting to comfort my brother." Regina stated.

"Weird how this is the second of us siblings who has to deal with a one-sided crush." Rainey pointed out, packing up.

"Hey, do Ryan and my brother actually have a chance together?" Regina asked.

"Of course, in the long run." The authoress nodded, before holding out a picture of future Ranger and Ryan eventually getting married and have 2 kids of their own.

"Wow, who would have thought that my brother would end up with Ranger?" Mark blinked, still processing the information that one of his younger friends is gay.

"You got a problem with the LGBT community?" Regina hissed, defensive of her brother.

"No, I just wonder how long would it take for Ryan to notice." Mark clarified.

"Probably a long time." Jay stated, before admitting, "but Ranger and Ryan would look good together."

A few short seconds later…

"I HAVE BEEN SUMMONED!" Caitlin declared, as she found a way to drill herself into the studio, with bags of M rated fanart in her bag.

"We forgot to account for any underground sneak-ins." Jones smacked a hand over his forehead.

"And she's not even wearing a MASK!" Veracity frowned.

"WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC, PEOPLE!" Carlos exclaimed, before he and Evie quit the video chat.

"See you next time, guys. Talk to you later." Evie quickly chimed in before the video call ended.

"RUN WHILE YOU CAN!" Jay hit the emergency button, as everyone in the studio ran out panicking while a few stayed behind to make sure Caitlin gets tranquilized before Caitlin could read out her M rated stories of shipping the fictional characters.

Later with the Andrews family and friends…

"Ranger, glad you can make it-" Spyder turned to greet their friend, but was surprised to see Ranger in a saddening state.

"What's the matter, bro?" Regina asked softly, hugging her brother.

"Ryan asked out Yasmin earlier, and she said yes." Ryan explained.

"Then why are you sad?" Rory tried not to hurt Ranger's feelings.

"I'm happy for Ryan, I really am. But at the same time, I'm not."

"Don't worry, bro. I'm sure you'll find someone better for you someday." Rainey hugged her brother tightly.

"Thanks, but I will get over it someday." Ranger gave a weak smile.

"So, wanna stay at home for the rest of the day and watch K-drama?" Regina asked as her brother nodded.

Sometimes, Valentine's Day might not end the way you hoped it would, but it's always nice to have trusted and loved ones to be there for you.

And this marks the end of 2021's edition of "Be My Valentine!" I hope you enjoyed this chapter. See you guys next year with Emmerich/Jane's chapter.

Chapter Talk: -

1) I have a fanfiction planned out for incorporating the Andrews family moving to Bay City for hiding (and healing Ricky who is one of the Andrews kids and got injured during "The Attack) with Mech X4. The story would include a lot of pairings like Harris/Rainey, Ranger/Ryan (slowburn), Veracity/Spyder and a one-sided previous Mark/Regina (Mark had feelings for Regina but Regina is not interested in dating)

2) I like to think that Ryan did have a brief chance to date Yasmin (I checked and that's the name for the Skater girl he's tried to flirt with several times) but his missions keep him busy to actually have a love life. So I can imagine Ryan trying to go out on dates with his crush a few times. Ranger tries to be subtle at hinting his crush by sending a mystery love note, and hiding his letters from his crush because gay panic.

3) Also, Harris and Rainey are dating. Spyder has tried to ask out his ex-crush Casey Park, and then asked Veracity to spend the day with him. Because I live for ship teases, and can't wait to write them later on.

4) Some facts about my characters: Ranger is canonically Gay in my stories, along with Regina who is Biromantic Asexual (she would go on and marry/date Willa from Zombies 2 at one point, but she stays loyal to her crush on Xiumin for life). Ranger likes Ryan, but he is still closeted and not fully ready to come out to his friends just yet.

5) Also, since other Disney sitcoms like "High School Musical the Musical the Series", "Andi Mack" and other such shows co-exist in my crossover-verse, Ranger and Dane (who is Mark's best friend who seems to be a bit too eager around him, I headcannon him as a closet bisexual with a big man-crush on Mark) go to a LGBT Emotional Support Group where they befriend other characters like Veracity's dads, Nini's moms, the lesbian couple from Good Luck Charlie season 4, Seb and Carlos, as well as Cyrus and TJ from Andi Mack.

6) If you have cried your heart out in the musical interlude in the end, I'm sorry for that. But I needed some heartbreak angst for the love triangle. And I can imagine the "I love you" scene overlapping from one person to another (Ranger singing about his crush to Ryan, Ryan singing for Yasmin, and Yasmin returning Ryan's feelings)

Evie: I can't believe Caitlin ruined our finale section

Carlos: I can't believe she manged to spam my emails and Jones' emails with her fanfiction about Jonelos

Jones: For the last time, Caitlin. I'm Asexual. I am not interested in dating or human intimacy!

Caitlin: FOR NOW

Jay: she ruins everything

Tracy: you said it.

Caitlin: Authoress, I demand you to write a Ryan/Ranger scene, but make it M rated

Authoress: (laughs nervously) oh heck no.

Caitlin: I'll be back next time!

Jones: I better get more security backup from Mighty Max.

Evie: well that's all for now, thank you so much for reading.

Carlos: we hoped you enjoyed the chapter and the sad scenes.
