Be My Valentine

Part XXVII: A Surefire Chocolatey Recipe for Disaster

This is one of the few times Be My Valentine doesn't cover romantic relationships (well there will be subtext) but it's otherwise just a group of teens all hanging out. Hope you will all enjoy it.

"And we're back with another segment for 'Be My Valentine', I'm your favorite host Evie Queen." Evie greeted the cameras with a bright smile.

"Hello fellow woodchucks, and I'm yours truly, Lou Hawkhauser." Lou introduced herself enthusiastically.

"I'm Jones Chimokuri," Jones gave a light wave, before motioning to two of the other hosts, "and that's my sister Tracy and her one half of her two boyfriends, Jay"

"We don't need you to advertise my love life, Jones." Tracy frowned in response.

"What do you mean one half? I was shipped with her before that Roman guy came along!" Jay corrected.

"Back to the point," Evie quickly switched the topic to prevent Jay and Jones have another one of their disagreements, "we are at our second and final segment for this year's edition."

"I'm honestly surprised that we have a double date for this episode, usually it's just one relationship at a time." Carlos voiced out.

"I'm making up two chapters worth of couples fluff in one chapter. It's called multitasking." the authoress corrected. 3 if you included some background romance subplot.

"Today, we have our guest stars from last year." Jay declared, as Rainey, Veracity, Harris and Spyder waved over.

"Why are we here?" Rainey asked, raising a hand.

"Reacting to what you guys did last year on Valentine's Day." Lou replied with a beaming smile.

"Oh no." Veracity hid her face behind her hands.

"You know this was coming anyways." Harris shook his head.

It was clearly too late to back out of it anyways.

"Fine, but only if we get to see what Mark and Georgia are up to next time." Spyder crossed his arms. It was only fair for them if Mark gets to suffer the same fate as them.

"Deal." Evie agreed.

"Authoress, are you writing this down?" Carlos asked, as the authoress gave a thumbs up from behind the camera.

"Alright, settle in everyone, because we are about to roll the clips." Tracy announced, before clicking 'play' on the remote.

~ Characters: Spyder x Veracity Campbell & Rainey Andrews x Harris Harris Jr., (with a hint of Ranger Andrews and Ryan Walker) ~

Valentines' Day

Timeline: Early Season 2 of Mech-X4

While Veracity Campbell prefers to spend the day on her own (and probably go out to have dinner with her dads in the evening), she was somehow talked into joining her new friends for some kind of group activity.

Although, considering two out of the 6 teens are in a relationship (or maybe kinda dating? Veracity herself isn't quite sure about the relationship status between the said couple), this is more or less Rainey and Harris on a date. With Ryan, Ranger, Spyder and her just third wheeling.

"I still cannot believe you talked me into coming with you guys." Veracity crossed her arms in front of her chest.

"I can," Rainey refused, "Spyder can be very persuasive."

"That's part of my charm." Spyder playfully winked back, flipping his longer hair.

"So where are we going?" Harris asked. Apparently, today's group activity was arranged by Rainey.

"I signed us up for a cooking class!" Rainey broke the news with a bright smile.

As soon as the rest heard that, their expressions stiffened.

Rainey is a wonderful friend and all, but let's just say she is a real lethal chef in the kitchen. Anything she tries to cook somehow gets ruined or set on fire.

"Oh, Rains! You shouldn't have!" Harris forced a smile and tried not to disappoint his date

"And when he meant 'you shouldn't have'-," Spyder quipped, before Harris elbows him.

"Ah, that explains why Ranger was following us from behind with a fire extinguisher." Ryan mumbled under his breath.

"I thought we left after him." Harris pointed out with a puzzled expression.

"He had to stop by the infirmary to get an extra first aid kit." Rainey replied with an unfazed expression, before huffing, "It's like no one in my family ever trusts me with my creative outlet!"

"I think he's more worried about you being near the kitchen in general." Veracity pointed out.

There is no surprise that on their first day of school in Bay City High (prior to its destruction), Rainey and Spyder sat next to each other in the first class of the semester, which was Home Ec. Put those two together in the same cooking class and a chaotic friendship is born.

According to what Harris and Veracity had heard, Spyder and Rainey managed to set the fire alarms on by just making fried omelet rolls.

"So who's teaching this class today?" Harris asked.

"No clue, the only thing I can remember is that the instructor of the day owns some famous chocolate factory in Belgium." Rainey answered, trying to remember what she read from the school's webpage.

"Fair enough," Spyder grinned, "they might be giving out free chocolate samples."

When the four teens walked into the class, they were all greeted by the romantically decorated classroom with hearts and chocolates. Clearly, whoever was teaching this class knew how to kick things up a notch.

And to top it all off, there is a giant box in the middle of the room.

"It's like we stepped into the witch's home from 'Hansel and Gretel'." Ryan stated.

"Dang son, this place is sweet!" Harris exclaimed, amazed. Rainey giggled at his remark.

"Huh, what's up with that giant box?" Veracity's face scrunched up in confusion.

"Ooh, maybe there's free chocolates inside!" Spyder eagerly guessed, before Rainey marches towards the box to open it.

As if cued, the box pushes itself open and reveals a middle-aged man who looked like a knock-off Willy Wonka from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".

"Welcome to my class. I'm your instructor of the day, Sebastian Nougat." The man introduced himself in an overly enthusiastic tone that annoyed some of the teens.

"And I am loco for coco." he then proceeded to toss cocoa powder from his bags at the students.

"Now before we begin, every couple here must share a passionate smooch." Sebastian beamed.

Some of the students in class started to give the other person a peck on the cheek or a full-on mouth-to-mouth kiss.

It definitely took Harris by surprise when Rainey leaned down to give him a kiss on the cheek.

"But what if we aren't even in a relationship?" Veracity raised a hand, looking rather uncomfortable by the PDA shown by every other couple who signed up for this class.

Spyder who was standing right next to Veracity just whistled and averted his eye contact awkwardly.

Ryan just distracted himself by reading the note he found in his locker.

"I love your passion, class." Sebastian Nougat grinned at some of the kissing couples, before pointing out, "But I meant chocolate smooches."

Once again, Sebastian Nougat reached into his apron and started throwing chocolate chips at the students.

"Now that is something I need to learn to use for combat." Rainey was rather unfazed by the surprise, and was in fact taking notes of utilizing food as a weapon.

Considering the fact that Rainey's cooking often ends up either indigestible or deadly, perhaps it's of better use as an ammo alternative for Mech X4 than catering.

At that moment, Ranger suddenly stumbled into the room holding a fire extinguisher.

"What are you doing here with the fire extinguisher?" Sebastian Nougat asked.

"Being prepared." Ranger answered, before marching over to his twin sister. Wherever Rainey goes, Ranger often follows behind.

She loves her brother, she truly does. But at the same time, he (along with most people Rainey knows and loves) tends to be overreacting when it comes to entrusting the teen with cooking in the kitchen.
"Are you kidding?" Veracity frowned, before reminding Rainey, "Last week, I watched you burn egg rolls by using a microwave. Twice."

"Now, I want everyone to first feed each other chocolates." Sebastian Nougat instructed.

"I'm starting to doubt your qualifications as a teacher." Veracity crossed her arms. Is he even qualified or sane enough to be teaching high schoolers?

"Just do what he says, he seems a bit nuts if you ask me." Harris whispered over.

"Yeah, not everyone is in a relationship." Ryan pointed out, averting his gaze from some of the students making lovey-dovey faces at one another.

"This could be fun, like a group activity. Only in a romantic setting." Rainey tried to make the best of the awkward situation.

"It's probably more uncomfortable for some of us than the others." Spyder stated, before handing a small piece of chocolate to Veracity's mouth.

Veracity stared at Spyder in awkward silence before accepting his chocolates.

"Huh, these chocolates are surprisingly good." Veracity's eyes widened, impressed.

"Let me try." Spyder leaned closer to her, before Veracity reluctantly fed him a chocolate.

"Would you like some?" Rainey asked, offering a chocolate to Harris.

"Uh yeah sure." Harris blinked, his cheeks turning pink but accepted the offer.

Ranger just ends up feeding himself chocolates because love doesn't have to always apply in romantic love. Ryan too, helped himself with some of the chocolate samples available.

Halfway while eating, Ranger suddenly handed a wet tissue to Ryan.

"Ryan, you got a bit of chocolate on your cheek." he stated, motioning to where Ryan had chocolate stains.

"That was adorable!" Lou and Evie were squealing behind the cameras.

"I'm pretty sure there wasn't any romantic background music when this happened!" Spyder stammered, flustered when the clips showed him and Veracity growing chummier.

"We know, the clips here have been edited with added effects." Carlos nodded.

"This is so humiliating." Veracity buried her face in her hands.

"I gotta say, you and Veracity do look good together." Harris joked, while Rainey bobbed her head in agreement.

"Don't worry, it will probably get better." Jay assured them.

"Or worse." Jones muttered under his breath, before resuming the video clips.

Sebastian Nougat definitely has an unconventional way of teaching. The older man basically paired everyone up into two, and stirred the batter mix for brownies.

Truth to be told, this class definitely was calmer for Rainey and Spyder because they have only accidentally broken something or caused a minor accident once.

"No, no, no!" Sebastian called out, before walking towards Ranger and Ryan. "You two must stir together."

"Is this because it's a couples themed cooking class?" Ryan grimaced, motioning to everyone else coupled up.

Heck, even Spyder and Veracity seemed to be getting chummy. Rainey and Harris were definitely getting the hang of this couple's cooking class.

"No, because you have the arm strength of a 3 year old." Sebastian Nougat refuted.

Veracity, Spyder, Harris, Rainey, and even Ranger tried not to laugh at the instructor's remark.

"Alright, now that you have all finished stirring the brownie mix, I would like everyone to write a customized message on it and give it to your special someone." Sebastian announced after a couple of minutes.

"Dibs on the vanilla frosting!" Rainey immediately made a dish to grab some of the ingredients.

- Pauses Screen -

"Ok, we are fast-forwarding this video!" Spyder whispered over to the other trio who all nodded in union.

"We could be here for hours!" Harris frowned.

Spyder quickly grabbed the remote from the desk to fast forward the already lovey-dovey couples cooking class scenes.

"Hey, hands off our remote!" Evie called out, before Spyder quickly threw it to Rainey to catch it.

"Fast forward! Fast forward!"

There were a lot more mushy or awkward with a hint of romantic scenes during that particular cooking class with Sebastian Nougat. And none of these 4 teens wanted to rewatch and relive those experiences again!

And the fight over the remote just ended up being a game of Hot Potato between the hosts and the guest stars.

In fact, it got so interesting that Jay decided to play along as well and tried switching it up to a tourney game. Jones seconded that statement by causing more problems. (Tracy: "Jay, Jones! You're supposed to set an example!")

By the time the remote was back in the host's hands, most of the interesting footage had been skipped.

"No, I wanna see more!" Lou groaned.

"We can always continue watching the deleted scenes later." Carlos suggested as Evie grinned.

"Yeah, I suppose we could spare the embarrassment for our guests because this is awkward for them." Evie nodded.

"Is this even normal around here?" Harris frowned at one of the hosts.

"Eh, when you've been hosting this show for a couple of years, you have seen everything to no longer question the logic." Tracy shrugged. Like how Caitlin finds a way to sneak into the show despite being banned.

One hour later, the romantic Home Ec baking class has finally ended…

"Well, with all things considered, this class ended slightly better than it could have gone." Ranger stated, as everyone walked out of Home Ec with small bags of baked chocolate goods.

"Yup, we have only emotionally scarred the teacher and everyone else once." Spyder nodded, considering that an achievement.

"I know you were looking forward to this cooking class all week, but did you really have to make enough brownies to feed an army?" Ryan voiced out, eying the small bags of baked brownies Rainey is holding.

"Of course. I've rationed them out for everyone I know." Rainey nodded. She started handing out some of the brownies to Ryan, Spyder and Veracity respectively.

"Thanks." Veracity smiled, before admitting, "I only made some for my dads."

Most of these teens just ended up baking some brownies that are either for themselves, their friends or their family members. For Rainey, it applies to all three.

"Here, try some of them now." Rainey insisted.

"Uh…can't we wait to eat them when we go back home?" Ryan raised his hand.

"Nope." Rainey shook her head.

"Spyder, why don't you give it a taste?" Veracity quickly turned her gaze to Spyder. If someone has to suffer the consequences of food poisoning via Rainey's cooking, Spyder is the best person to take one for the team.

"Here goes nothing." Spyder forced a smile, before he took out one of the brownies and put it into his mouth. Hoping he probably won't get any food poisoning this time.

"Guys, this actually tastes good." Spyder admitted. "A bit burnt but still decent."

"It's the thought that counts and sharing love to ones you know," Ranger agreed with his sister, "isn't that what today's all about?"

"What about me then?" Harris asked, trying not to sound envious that all his friends got brownies.

"How could I forget about you?" Rainey smiled, before handing Harris a bag of heart-shaped brownies.

"I got you something too." Harris exchanged brownies with her.

"If you guys are just gonna rub your relationship in our faces, we can still make a run for it." Veracity teased. Spyder chuckled in response.

"On one hand, I am happy for you. But at the same time, I am still not used to seeing you in a relationship." Ranger raised a hand, before his twin jokingly slapped him in the arm.

"Happy Valentine's Days, you guys." Spyder looped an arm around his friends, initiating a group hug.

"I love you guys so much, and I mean it in the most platonic way possible." Rainey admitted, as everyone else either 'aww'ed in response or laughed at the cheesy line.

~ Clips Ended ~

"That was sweet. I enjoyed it." Tracy spoke out.

"I agree, there were a lot of sweet moments between the guests during their Valentine's Day class." Carlos agreed.

"I think my favorite part had to be Veracity and Spyder interacting with each other." Lou spoke out.

"There would have been more footage if our guests hadn't fast-forwarded it." Evie gave the guests a look.

"In hindsight, we should have brought Ryan with us. At least he can use his technopath powers to skip the entire video." Rainey pointed out, earning nods of approval from her friends.

"So, which lucky couple will we be looking into next year?" Jones asked.

"Excellent question, which I will now read the answer to." Lou nodded, as Jay started drumming his fingers.

'Oliver and Skylar Storm.'

"Wow, this ought to be interesting." Tracy grinned, it's been a while since she's checked in on them.

"Aww, I've missed Skoliver." Evie squealed, rather eager to find out what will happen next year.

"Now that this is finally over, can we leave now?" Spyder asked out loud.

"Alright, fine. But you gotta say goodbye to everyone first." the authoress agreed.

"Thanks to anyone who has tuned in, we hope you guys enjoyed this segment." Carlos waved at the cameras.

"Feel free to leave a comment down below and let us know what you think of this chapter." Veracity read out loud from the screen.

"Bye everyone!" Rainey cheerfully bids as the camera stops filming.

Well, that is all we have for 2022's 'Be My Valentine' series. I hope you have all enjoyed reading it. Mech-X4 is a wonderful series to binge-wa

Chapter Talk: -

1. Nothing says cute and chaotic like a couple's date in a cooking class. Although Spyder and Veracity (along with Ranger and Ryan fifth-wheeling) definitely feel like the odd ones out considering they aren't in a relationship as compared to the rest of their friends. Well, not yet anyways

(Mark is dating Georgia; Ryan has a crush on Yasmin; Ranger has a one-sided crush on Ryan; and Harris and Rainey are definitely in the limbo between being friends and being in a relationship)

2. Sebastian Nougat is one of the side characters/guest characters for "Suite Life on Deck". He appeared in Season 3 Episode 8 "Party On" as the enthusiastic chocolate factory guide when Cody and Bailey went to Belgium. I figured if anyone would be interested in making a guest appearance for a Valentines' Day themed chapter as a cooking host, it would be him.

3. I enjoyed writing the interactions between the teens for this ep, mainly between Veracity and Spyder because they're cute together. Harris/Rainey are also just as adorable to write for because they definitely have acknowledged each other's fond feelings for one another during season 2 of Mech X4. While Ranger and Ryan have a more stiff/awkward interaction, with a couple of nods from the "If I Could Tell Her/Him" chapter (mainly for Ryan rereading the love note he received from his mystery admirer)

4. I definitely will be implementing more ships in the future (some of which are from recent Disney series, such as Secrets of Sulfur Springs) so be sure to look out for the upcoming updates next year.

Next Couple: Skylar Storm x Oliver

That would be all for now. Feel free to leave a comment down below and tell me what you think of this chapter. Thanks for reading and have a nice day.
