CHAPTER ONE : A Hint
The first Rewrite of the story! nothing much will change here. Enjoy!
The two guards stepped to the side, allowing Rem to pass through the thick iron door. She was currently walking down to the holding cells of the two remaining archbishops, Roy Arneb the sin archbishop of gluttony, and Sirius, the sin archbishop of wrath. Both archbishops were sealed and heavily guarded under the castle walls, their authorities suppressed due to heavy amounts of magic. Due to the archbishop of wrath's authority leaking out of the seal occasionally, most guards stayed outside of the metal door to avoid the effects of the wrath authority.
Rem was very much aware of this and had been given a charm by Roswaal that would heighten her empathic connection to her sister, allowing her to have a civil conversation without trying to butcher the sealed archbishops. Even with all the precautions, Rem was not happy. It was fairly reasonable to be upset when you are asked to interrogate the brother of the child that stole your existence from the world, putting you into a coma for around a year, but being spiteful about that wouldn't help her actual goal here.
She accepted anyway, even if it was incredibly infuriating to be even near them. All she had to do was make sure Roy told her where Capella could possibly be hiding her hero, and try not to smash his head into a red paste with her Morningstar during the questioning. She reached a stairway, slowly leading down to the deepest part of the dungeons. She walked down the steps as she tried to think up a way to talk to the boy.
Roy was reclusive, constantly hiding away in the back of the crystal, out of sight. When she had come in search of a way to treat her amnesia, she had been told that he was a merciless killer with a sleazy personality and a tendency to try and annoy others. When she had first met him, she had seen the exact opposite. A conversation with those present during the events of his capture told her that he was most likely scarred from what had occurred at the watchtower. She was never given details, but Roy was in some way deeply affected by trauma, something that she could actually sympathise with. But she would never try to sympathise with him, he didn't deserve sympathy. She had also asked Subaru but he had simply said "Roy was subjected to the ultimate shame."
She eventually reached the bottom of the stairs, reaching a hallway. The walls were coated in thick mould and liquids she could not identify dripped from the stone ceiling. She really wished she had brought something to clean with, the mess made her impulses act up. Rem took a few seconds to calm herself down, she wasn't here to scrub the prison walls, even if every cell in her body told her to at least make the stone walls visible under all that mould.
She made her way down the hall, nearly retching as the smell of blood and shit hit her hard. For someone that lived in a lord's mansion, she was only ever used to these smells when she killed, something she hadn't done within the last year at the Emilia camp. She finally stopped at the end of the hallway as she tried to compose herself, trying her best not to react to the large flood of miasma. It was far more vile than Subaru's. While his erupted in short bursts, these two were constantly exuding it in large amounts.
Sitting on two different podiums in front of her were the crystal seals holding the archbishops, a far larger amount of seals wrapped around the one closer to her left. She had heard banging from down the hall, confirming that it was just the wrath archbishop. Being true to her title. Sirius screamed her lungs out in a violent fury as she tried to break open the seal from the inside with pitiful results, yelling obscenities after obscenities. Rem turned her attention to the other crystal on her right. The crystal had far less seals around it, a small shadow sitting at the back as she picked up on a small tapping sound, barely able to hear it over Sirius's wails.
It was a pattern, one she recognised from muscle memory. Roy was tapping the same rhythm into the crystal that she did when she was walking with her Morningstar, something that threw her off completely. Roy was no longer in possession of her memories, nor was his deceased brother. Why was he behaving like her? She decided not to think about it, the information she wanted was far more valuable.
She took a deep breath, taking a step forward and knocking on the crystal. The shadow inside flinched, moving away from the sudden sound. A small, meek and timid voice squeaked out from behind the reflective cell. "W-Who's there? P-Please, just leave m-me alone."
Good, she had his attention for now. "Archbishop, we need to speak once more."
He perked up, getting a small bit closer to her end, his tone taking a slightly more confident tone. "R-Rem? Is that you?"
She held back a snarl at having her name flow out of his mouth so casually, every cell in her body telling her to smash him into a puddle. She bit back an insult as she looked up at the crystal, trying her best not to look hostile. "Yes, it is Rem. We must speak, regarding your fellow archbishops."
Every single word made Roy flinch, if she was trying to hide her anger, she was failing miserably. He looked her over, noticing that a pendant was hanging from her neck. He brushed it off, staring at her for a few minutes before responding. "W-What about them?"
As much as he loved talking about those freaks, something told him that Rem would actually kill him this time if he refused. "O-Okay..."
Rem took a second to think of the best way to ask the question before she just decided to be blunt. "Where is Capella, sin archbishop of lust hiding?"
Roy lurched backwards, a mixture of fear and hatred erupting from the crystal as he hid like a cornered animal. He yelped, catching Sirius's attention as she laughed at his expense. "What a pathetic wimp! What's wrong, street whore got your tongue?" She howled with laughter before she began to scowl. "You're a disgrace!"
Roy ignored her, choosing to focus on Rem's question as he shivered in the back of the crystal. "N-No way! S-She'll kill me!"
There was something wrong with that reaction, very wrong. "She won't. She has no idea of your location, not to mention that you were declared dead months ago."
He didn't find that hard to believe, the kingdom of Lugnica did view him as a monster. He really didn't get why she wanted to know in any case. There was no reason to go after her, not when she was near immortal in such a secluded place. "W-Why?"
"Subaru-kun has been abducted by that demon, you're the only one who could know besides Meili." She had tried to talk to Meili about it, the girl had refused even when she got violent.
Roy sat in silence, pondering on what he could do in this situation. He didn't want to get killed, but those stupid memories had twisted his view, especially on Subaru. He took a deep breath before steeling himself, Subaru would definitely have to visit after this.
"F-Fine..."
I'm back! More chapters on the way!
