A/N: Again, disclaimer I do not own Twilight, if I did then Bella's mommy issues would be nonexistent, and Edward would be less broody. I decided today is gonna have a two-for-one special and pumped out two chapters. Enjoy!
You'd think that I'd just set an orphanage on fire, graffitied a church, or spit on an old lady with the look Carlisle gave me. In a way I've only seen in cartoons, he looked absolutely baffled-it honestly looked as though he's gone into shock. Maybe he's one of those people who are super judge-y about names, though I've never heard anyone named Carlisle. Really, it's not my fault Renee decided that her hobby of choice right before she gave birth was history of ancient Greece. She'd heard somewhere that Didyme translates to 'twin', though knowing her that's probably not true at all.
He sputtered a few times, which seemed to go against their uber perfect image, "That's a very unique name, but lovely nonetheless."
I hummed in agreement, then shuffled awkwardly, not quite sure what to do in response. He seemed to finally catch his bearings and swept his arm forward, gesturing to the door where Bella and Esme stood.
The equally stunning-yet no less strange Mrs. Cullen pulled me in for an awkward one-sided hug, "Welcome dear, we've heard so many great things about you from your sister. You're welcome anytime."
I turned to shoot a glare at Bella, highly doubting she had that much praise for me, she tended to not talk so much. I turned back to Esme and shot her a smile, "Thank you, your house is beautiful."
We were ushered inside and again I glanced around in awe, I really wonder how hard it'd be to convince the Cullens to fund my college, it seems like pocket change to them thus far. A very…interesting display of graduation caps hung on one wall near the stairs, I quickly decided it wasn't worth questioning. I bumped into Bella's side, not having noticed she stopped due to my gawking-she stumbled a little but before she could absolutely wipe out, the big Cullen Emmett popped up and steadied her. Yeah, he was nowhere in sight when we came in, yet he's suddenly there-seemingly out of thin air.
I won't pretend that I'm oblivious to the Cullens and their weird ways, oh no you'd have to be an idiot not to notice there was something unnatural about them. Half the time my body felt tensed, ready to run if I even managed to make eye contact with them. But for whatever reason Bella seemed to wholly believe that they are righteous people, so I'll allow her to live her life and in turn, will tolerate them.
"Didyme, this is Emmett, my oldest son, though I'm sure your aware as you did attend the same school," Carlisle motioned proudly toward his son, in which Emmett responded by throwing a beaming grin his father's way.
"Cool name, you as clumsy as Hell's Bells right here?" Emmett's grin was almost sharklike as he wrapped an arm around Bella's shoulders, reaching up to rustle her hair.
I scoffed and rolled my eyes, following after the two and Emmett marched Bella into the living room, I half wondered on whether Emmett had ever considered playing football as he seemed like he'd be the type. As soon as we had finished rounding the corner Edward swept forward to greet Bella while I glanced around again. The whole glass wall thing was throwing me off kilter but looking out into the vast green forest laying behind the house was another experience. I strode closer, admiring the beauty of the great outdoors, the light mist coming from the sky added a bittersweet atmosphere to the trees beyond the glass. I could hear the Cullens and my sister speaking faintly behind me, I was too preoccupied to bother with attempting a conversation with them. Though, I did glance behind me when I heard Bella let out a small laugh, seeing her stare up at Edward with a smile.
Ew. In all honesty Edward was pretty okay, I was still pretty bitter about the Pheonix incident that happened a few months before. In pure teenage fashion Bella had come home furious at Edward and had in turn unleashed all her teen angst on Charlie, then decided to run off back to Arizona in the middle of the night. It's safe to say I was just as pissed as he was when we found out she he ended up tripping and smashing right through a glass window. And yes, even though Edward didn't cause it, it was his fault she was even upset to begin with. Sometimes I just like hating on Edward to get on my sister's nerves, he's pretty decent and seems to genuinely care about my sister.
I looked back to the yard, thoughts drifting to my own love life, or rather lack of-not to complain about it too much, there was just no one in Forks who seemed to be a fit for me. Instead, my ideal match was the mystery man I'd sometimes catch glimpses of in my episodes, the only downside to these little fits is that I never once heard his name. Mr. tall, dark and handsome was simply referred to in my head as 'mystery bachelor #1'. Just as I recalled his face in my mind, I heard Edward sputtered, choking and coughing at the same time.
I whirled around only to find him intensely gazing at me, I couldn't quite tell when the look was about, only that he seemed slightly bothered or concerned.
He cleared his throat with a grin, "Just a dry throat, no worries. I was actually just mentioning to Bella that you might be impressed by Carlisle's study, I hear you're also fond of reading?"
I was actually a little touched and offered a small nod, "I am, I'd love to see it if that's okay?"
He nodded and motioned for Bella and me to follow him, though she already knew the way, so I trailed behind not wanting to burst their little privacy bubble. The rest of the house was just as achingly beautiful, Bella had mentioned in passing before that Mrs. Cullen decorated it herself and it endeared me to her just a tad more. Reaching a door in which a large wooden cross dangled above, Edward pushed open a door and I was immediately struck with awe.
I hadn't seen such an impressive space dedicated to books before, and though it was not a huge space there were floor to ceiling shelves crammed with novels, it was any book lover's dream.
Bella laughed, then playfully shoved my shoulder, "Now you've done it, she's never going to leave!"
"Sure, then I wouldn't have to endure you're snoring. You're loud enough to wake the whole neighborhood," I stuck my tongue out her in mock annoyance, laughing and her answering groan.
Stopping suddenly, I noticed the painting that hung on the wall behind her. Moving swiftly toward it I half heard her cries of denial regarding my accusation, entirely transfixed by what I saw. I knew the three men who stared out of the portrait, all three had had multiple features in my accidental daydreams. Up until now I had dismissed myself as crazy, however in seeing this within the Cullen home I was now terrified on what this meant.
"What's wrong Dee," Edwards hand came down on my shoulder, causing me to jump and stutter myself through an excuse.
If I hadn't been so thrown off, I probably would've punched Edward because I only tolerate Bella and Charlie calling me Dee. Which I'm pretty sure he already knew but was pressing my buttons in return for a change.
"It's nothing really. Who are these people?" I spoke quietly, not exactly meaning to but completely in shock.
The Cullens had some explaining to do, and there was no way I was playing oblivious this time.
