Chapter 14: Death, Storm, and A Star
I was absolutely stunned to see Winter Schnee out here. I mean see's a high ranking military personal right? What would she be doing out here?
All that matters not right now she's in danger, and I need to help her. I see the three bandits closing in on her so I blink down, and stand in front of her.
"I've got you stay behind me!" I tell her pulling out my pistol, and readying my saber. I keep my aura up, and be ready to activate my dust weave on my clothes when necessary.
"Hahaha out of the way brat, or else we'll make you our new toy too." The bandit in the middle says with a lecherous grin.
"Pfff boss it's just the two of them. We could easily take them." The one to my right says.
"Hehehe." The one to my left just laughs to himself.
Taking what I've learned from my pops About fighting people I waist no time, and attack the one in my right with the pistols with my saber.
Bandit Thug One

He falls back with a yelp, and the other two are caught off guard not expecting the sudden attack. I immediately blink behind the left one, and hit him across the back.

As I slash I see his aura shatter, and he's blood spills out of his wound I just gave him. I shutter as the reality sets in. I'm probably going to have to kill them to get out of this alive.
'I'm gonna have to kill! Oh gods oh shit! I-I-I... I have too or else... O gods.' I began to hyperventilate, and shutter.

I breathe in then out feeling my nerves calm down, and my feelings dulling. I hate how this feels, but right now this is life or death for not only me.
The bandit I cut hits the snow crying out in pain as his blood covers the snow around him. I see the one in the middle pull out his weapon that is an big axe. The first one I hit pointed his gun at Winter.
I blink in front of Winter, and pull up my cloak as I hear the gun go off. The bullet bounce off my cloak as the hard light dust creates a protective barrier over it.
The middle bandit moves forward to attack me, but I parry away his attack and fire at the bandit with the gun five times.

I see the first two hit his aura then the third shatter it, and embed itself in his side. The last two bullets hit him in the chest. He screams out in pain as the middle bandit looks pissed, and try's to swing at me.
I try and back step, but the bandit on the left that was on the ground grabbed my leg. I quickly aim at the one on my leg, and fire a round into his head.
Bandit Thug Two

I see him stiffen then go limp. I blink over the middle thug, and slash at his neck.
Bandit Leader

He stumbles, and tries to compose himself. He however forgot there was still another person here. Winter takes this opportunity to slash her saber aiming for his throat.
I watch as his aura shatters, and his head is removed from his body. Winter drops to one knee having used up the rest of her strength in that attack.
I turn and look at the last bandit. He starts sobbing, and firing randomly at me. I rush forward with his bullets bouncing off my cloak, and finish him off with a stab to the heart.

I swipe my blade through the air, and flick of any blood on it. I'll need to deep wash all my clothes, and weapons later.
I turn back to Winter, and walk up to her. "Are you ok Ms.?" I hold out my hand to her. I can see her stiffen a bit.
She looks me over with a critical eye. "I'm ... decent I guess. Who are you?" She warily stands up on her own, and keeps her grip on her blade firm.
I look at her with some concern. "Im Iris I live in the village that called for help with well..." I look behind me. "Them." I look her over, and noticed she's bleeding a bit from her head, leg, and side.
She keeps her gaze on my for a bit longer judging me to see if I'm lying. "Well I gu-"
As she's about to speak the wind suddenly picks up, and almost knocks us both over. I then hear a loud whistling sound. I turn around see a sheet of metal from the ship flying right at me.
I immediately duck with out thinking, and hear a bang then a groan. I look over at Winter, and realized the sheet of metal slammed into her knocking her out.
I immediately run over, and realized her aura broke. She was probably really hurt from that crash, and from fighting off these bandits. I take off my cloak, and wrap it around her. I then put her on my back.
I then began to spam my blink to try, and out run the blizzard. I use my magic to heal up her aura , but not her wounds because that might make complications later. When spamming my blink it sucks up my stamina really fast it's even worse because I'm caring Winter on my back.
After spamming it for a few minutes I can see my house in the distance. With all I have left as my vision darkens I slam through the door, and fall face first onto the floor falling in to unconscious.
Onyxs POV after Iris ran off
The wind was picking up out side, and my little girl still wasn't back yet. I was starting to get antsy wanting to go out there after her, but she was right she was the only one fast enough to out run that blizzard. If I where to go out there I'd probably not make it back before it hit.
After nearly twenty minutes past, and the blizzard was starting to pick up I started to get dressed. Because I'll be damned if I'm going to lose my child to some damn weather.
Right as I was strapping my boots on the door slammed open. Iris hit the ground immediately with another person on her back. Gardenia and I ran to her side, and I lifted the stranger onto the couch while she checked on Iris.
My wife gasped, and I ran back over to see Iris had a lot of blood on her. Fearing for her safety I lifted her, and took her to other couch for Gardenia to check her over.
I went and grabbed the first aid from the bathroom. After handing it to her I moved to the kitchen.
After Gardenia was done checking her. She walked to the bathroom to wash her hands, and came over to me. "How is she? Do I need to go get anything else?" I was beyond worried for my girl.
She sighed and looked at me with a small smile. "She fine you big teddy bear she's just exhausted. She'll be right as rain in a few hours. Though you should start cooking so she has something to eat." She then went back to check on the stranger.
After a few minutes she walks into the kitchen. "Do you think you could take Iris up to her room, and our surprise visitor to the guest room." She has the clothes they where wearing bundled up in her arms.
"Sure thing just make sure the soup doesn't burn." I kiss her on the head as I leave the kitchen.
Three hours later...
Winters POV
"Ugh" I wake up with a killer headache, and pain through out my body. I open my eyes to see a wooden ceiling, and I look over and see two windows. Outside I can see the blizzard howling by making it pure white outside.
I began getting up despite my bodies protest, and look around fully. I'm in a wooden room with a desk, an empty bookshelf, a wardrobe, and chair. I noticed on the chair was my uniform, and my saber was on the desk.
I look down realizing I was in some wool pajamas. Noticing this I check my body to notice if anything had happened to me while I was out. Luckily it only seems like my clothes where changed, and nothing else.
Sighing I try to get up, but stop when the door opens. I immediately go on guard, and try to reach my weapon. The desk was too far however so I fall out of the bed with a "thud".
"Oh your awake! Um are you ok there Ms.?" I hear a feminine voice talk to me, and hear footsteps get closer.
Embarrassed enough I sit up on the floor. "I'm fine you just startled me." I try to play it off, but only hear a small giggle from the lady.
"Oh you. No need to act all tough I know those bruises of yours must hurt quite a bit." The lady says walking up to me, and holds out a hand.
I finally look up at her. I immediately noticed the pair of fox ears on her head, and the tail swishing behind her. "I... um thank you." I take her hand as she helps me back up onto the bed.
"It's no problem do you want me to go get some pain medicine, or would you like something to drink?" She says in a chipper voice.
I look at her with a small smile. "Both would be nice. Also if I could get your name?" I ask trying to be polite.
The lady's ears twitch. "Ah my bad. Must of slipped my mind when I saw you in pain. I'm Gardenia Asteria it's lovely to meet you." She smiled sweetly at me. "And pray tell is your name? I have a hunch, but I don't want to be rude."
I smile nervously. I know my family's reputation is atrocious because of my father. I really hope they don't get hostile with me because of that. "My names Winter Schnee it's a pleasure Mrs.Asteria."
She giggles a bit. "Aw nun of that Mrs. stuff just call me Gardenia. Im not all for that stuffy stuff. Also Onyx owes me twenty Lien." She gets up, and heads to the door. "I'll be right back you sit tight, and relax. K?" She then walks out.
I breathe out a sigh of relief. I'm glad that went well I don't think I could of survived out there other wise.
After a couple of minutes Gardenia returns with a tray. "Here you go dearie. There's some soup, the pain medicine, and a glass of water." She places it on my lap. Then she moves my uniform to the desk, and takes a seat in the chair.
I look at the tray in surprise. "Um thank you." I didn't expect some food, but I am hungry.
"When your done I have some questions for you. Is that alright?" Gardenia says.
I look over at her, and nod. "That's fine."
One hour later...
Irises POV
I flutter my eyes open, and sit up stretching. I look around realizing I was in my room confused for a moment before I remembered everything.
I cover my mouth, and try to keep myself calm. I had killed someone not just one, but two people. They where scum of Remnant, and had done horrible things. It was matter of principle though that I had actually killed someone.
I've hunter animals, and Grimm before no problem. This however was different. It was a person a horrible person, but still.
I huddle in on myself wrapping my blanket around me. I'm startled when I hear the door open, and my mum walks in.
"Oh your awake! How are you sweetie?" I hear her move closer, and sit on bed. She moves closer, and wraps her arms around me. She notices my shaking, and quite sobs.
"It's ok. Your ok. You've done nothing wrong." She starts slowly petting me, and tightening the hug. "Winter woke up a few hours ago, and told me all about what happened."
I stiffen at that, and start shaking a bit harder. "Onyx, and I aren't upset with you. You did what you thought was right, and saved not only yourself, but Winter as well. You should also know even if you left them alive they would of died to the blizzard most likely, or gone off to kill more innocent people."
I feel my a tiny bit better at her words. "But I still... killed them." I feel a chill crawl up my spine.
Mum moves, and grabs my face to make me look at her. "Sweetie you should know sometimes you need to take a life to save another, or even your own. Once you become a huntress you'll sometimes need to make tough choices like that. Just know Onyx, and I will always be on your side so please don't beat yourself up over it. It's just another part of this world we live in, and we'll always love you."
She pulls me into a tight hug as I start to cry. "Ssshhh ssshhh it's ok let it out. You'll be ok. I won't go anywhere." She rubs my back, and let's me cry into her shoulder.
