Chapter 2
He stretched out to look over his roommate's shoulder. Severus was a friend to him, but Regulus knew that after the fiasco with Evans, the dark-haired wizard was hesitant about friendship. It's been a few times now and he still flinches every time he hears the word.
Sometimes he wondered if it was because he regretted the way things had turned out between him and the red-haired Gryffindor, or if it was because he finally realized that what he had with her wasn't friendship.
The younger of the Black brothers watched as Severus scribbled two words in the margin of a used Potions textbook. They were tensed there so close together that they looked almost like one word. Curiosity overcame reason, and before he could think, he asked, "What is sectumsempra?"
Snape shuddered, then quickly closed his textbook. Reg thought the wizard was angry with him, but after they made eye contact, he couldn't see the anger in his eyes.
- Do you want to know what this spell is? move aside. When he didn't react, a crease appeared on Sev's face, like it always did when he was annoyed.
- Done.
He extended his hand to the wardrobe at the other end of their room. - Sectumsempra is it. After a moment, Regulus saw that the oak door was marked with deep cuts.
He stood silent for a moment. He was in shock. - What the hell is this spell? This can kill. He heard a snort escape from Snape's mouth. He immediately felt as if he should know the answer to that question. Then came the implementation. - Is it yours? Why did you create it?
- For enemies.
The boy's response was not marked by any emotion. He looked like he was listing runes in an exam, not talking about something that was so dangerous.
- Don't tell me you're going to use that spell on the Marauders. On my brother. You can't be serious.
A blush appeared on Severus' face. - NO. I'm not that cruel. I just feel calmer knowing I have something I can use as a last resort. Something that can save me. I hope that you understand me.
He wasn't surprised by what he was going to say. There could only be one answer. -
Yes, I understand.

He felt his body hit the wall. He heard the crack of another bone snapping.
- Where it is? The wizard's voice sounded bored. Regulus thought that whoever was behind the Death Eater's mask would rather be anywhere but with him.
"Could you tell me what the hell you're talking about?" he growled irritably. He tasted his own blood in his mouth. I don't have time for guesswork or for you.
The attacker snorted. He seemed pleased with this turn of events.
- Are you up for a joke, Black? At a time like this? Shouldn't you be calling your brother to help you? He walked over to him and stood on his chest, using his body weight to push him harder and harder against the wall. - As if I could forget. Now James Potter is his brother and you are a useless relic of his past. I only had one order. Leave no traces. Magic traces. When I'm done with you... Your death will be a meaningless episode in my life. But first, he wants the locket back. Lord knows you stole it.
At that moment, the voice of his friend sounded in Regulus' head - For enemies.
Without thinking much, he stretched out his hand. At the moment when his fingers brushed the robes of his tormentor he whispered - Sectumsempra. Then he lost consciousness from exhaustion.

He didn't know how much time passed from the moment he used Severus' spell to the moment he woke up. He knew he was tired and sore.
The dismembered body of a Death Eater was the first thing he saw when he opened his eyes. He recognized Ian Rosier's face among the shreds of his mask and the mess of blood-stained hair. Evan's younger brother. Apparently he wanted to exist. He was always overshadowed by his older brother, just as he was overshadowed by Sirius before he rebelled and left the family.
He struggled to his feet only to fall violently to the floor. Knowing that he didn't have much time left, he called out the one being he could always count on. - Kreacher!
He didn't have to wait long. As soon as he finished saying his name, he heard a crack and saw his personal elf. A bitchy, mischievous but extremely loyal Kreacher.
- Yes Master? The elf was terrified, but according to what he had been taught, he didn't ask anything.
"Remember the locket you were supposed to keep for me?" The one I stole and the one you wanted to destroy right away and I insisted on destroying it first? Destroy it and then hide. When you feel I'm dead, leave the mansion and find your happiness.
When Regulus disappeared, he knew that the moment had come when he had to use the spell given to him by his mother.
He clenched his bloody hands around the family locket and mentally uttered the first part of the spell. The part that would lead him
to a place where he can close the spell. And the part that will keep him alive until he utters the last part of the spell.
And maybe he'll even be lucky enough to wake up again.
Regulus Black was unaware as the spell took him to where Jean Granger ran every morning with her friends.

I'm not sure about this chapter because I'm not good at describing things like this but I hope you enjoy it. And I hope this chapter answers the question of why Regulus fell into a coma. Regards, Katie Krum
