Ricks POV
I stepped into my truck and started her up. I didn't bother to turn the radio on because I was lost in thought. "God she is so beautiful '' I thought. It's a shame that she doesn't even know me. That actually hurt a little. We're almost halfway through the year and she never even noticed me in class? I've been crushing on her since… middle school i think? I shrugged and pulled out of the driveway. "At least I'm on good terms with her mother," I thought. From what I hear she's only ever had three boyfriends. All of them were just after her for her looks. I wonder how far they got? Either way she dumped them, her mom threatened them from what I heard, and she hasn't dated anyone since tenth grade. I highly doubt she would start again with my sorry ass. Actually i know she wouldn't because she doesn't even know who the fuck i am, and i've been in her class for multiple years now.
I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. Pulling up to a stop light I reached for it to see who texted me. It was Humphrey.
"Hey bro, taking Lily to the drive in tonight, want to bring your sis?" I thought for a moment. That actually sounds fun. I texted back.
"Sure what time? And what are we seeing?" the light turned green and I drove forward putting the phone down. After about ten seconds it vibrated again. I had to wait until the next light. When I finally stopped, I read the text.
"8:00 The Conjuring"
I texted back immediately. "I'll be there" I tossed my phone to the side and started driving to my house. It was already almost five so I had to get my sister and make sure we were on time.
Pulling into my driveway, I shut off my truck and hopped out. Speed Walking to my door, pulling out my keys as I did so. I unlocked the door and called for my sister.
"Angel?" I called.
"What?" I heard her call back. Judging from the direction it's coming from, shes upstairs. I jogged up and walked to her room, leaning against her door frame.
"Hey"
she looked over from her laptop. "What's up?" she asked with a lollipop in her mouth.
"You want to go to the drive-in?" I asked.
"To see what?" she asked back.
"The conjuring"
she chuckled. "The conjuring? Haven't you already seen that?" she asked me. I walked over and sat on her bed.
"Yes. I have. But…" I started.
"But what?" she asked.
"Lilly will be there." I said with a smile.
"Really? Oh my god I haven't seen her for so long." she said ecstatic
"you saw her at school today." I said.
"Yes but that was about two hours ago." she said.
"Sure. sure. Just be ready by about seven. Movie starts at eight" I said getting up.
"Wait" she called to me. I turned around and she looked me up and down. "What the fuck happened to you?" she asked, finally noting the stains on my shirt.
"I had to stop somewhere and fix some pipes. They broke on me." she chuckled as I left to go take a shower.
A couple hours later I was at the door waiting for Angel.
"Angel come on, no telling how long the line is." I heard footsteps running down the steps before I saw her come around the corner.
"Ready big bro?" she asked.
"Fuck you" i responded gesturing towards the door. She stepped out walking over to the truck as I locked the door. I hopped in the driver seat and started the truck. "You texted mom and dad right?" I asked.
"Yea i told them about an hour ago." I pulled out of our driveway.
"Good," I said.
As we were driving it was silent. The only thing that was heard was the hum of the truck as I drove us to the drive in, finally I turned to Angel.
"Hey Angie?" I asked.
"What's up?" she responded. I glanced at her real quick before turning back to the road.
"I have something i want to tell you but you have to promise me you'll be cool about it.'' She sat up a bit.
"Sure what is it?" she asked me.i sighed before speaking.
"Earlier… I was at Lillies house" I started.
"What were you doing there?" Angel asked me.
"Fixing the pipes" I said, earning a laugh from my little sister.
"Is that what you wanted to tell me? You fucked up my best friends plumbing?"
I chuckled. "No. i actually fixed them, and that's not the reason i'm bringing it up" i shot her another glance.
"I'm listening," she said.
"When I was done Kate came in..." in the corner of my eye I saw my sister's eyes grow as if she was telling me to go on. "She… didn't even know who i was" i said gripping the steering wheel harder expecting Angel to bust out laughing. She didn't do that though.
"I don't even know what to say to that." she said looking back out the windshield. "I think… It's because she shuts herself out. From what I heard from Lilly she just doesnt go around trying to make friends, she sticks to the ones she has because she thinks they're going to use her." Angel explained.
"You think?" I asked.
" I know. Its not like your some unpopular fuck up. You're well known, got a nice friend group, and I know a good amount of girls that have a crush on you." this made me laugh.
"Crush on me?" I asked.
"More than you know" Angel said."I've seen so many girls flirting with you-" Angel started before I cut her off.
"Oh no no no no not with me, you must be mistaken." She turned her attention to me again.
"No, I'm right. Your just to dumb to notice.'' I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel.
"It doesn't matter, the one girl I like doesnt even know me," I said.
"How about this? Tomorrow at school try talking to her. Where exactly does she sit?"
I laughed again. "On the complete opposite side of the fucking room."
Angel hummed as if she was thinking. "Try talking to her and if she seems defensive in any way just go on about your day and keep doing that until she gets friendly" I glanced at Angel for a third time.
"How the fuck does that work?" I asked.
"Trust me. You get on a girl's good side real quick if you're not trying to just get in their pants" Angel replied, turning back to the windshield again.
Soon we made it to the drive in, I purchased our tickets and parked next to Humphrey. I hopped out and gave Humphrey our usual hand shake, while Lilly and Angel hugged each other.
"We've still got a good thirty minutes." Humphrey said, checking his phone
. "yeah... '' I said nodding.
"What's wrong?" he asked me.
"I'll tell ya later. Want to get some snacks?" I asked.
"Sure," he said. He then turned to the girls and asked if they wanted anything.
"Well what do they have?" Angel asked.
"Its a fucking dri- its a drive in." I said. "They got the same bullshit they've had since fucking 55, popcorn, soda pop let's go" i finished. Angel turned to Lilly and smiled before turning back.
"Popcorn," she said.
"I kind of want a hot dog." Lilly said.
"Gotcha '' Humphrey said before me and Him walked off.
We got in a line before Humphrey asked me.
"So are you gonna tell me what the problem is?" I sighed looking at the ground before turning to face him.
"It's Kate"
Humphrey clicked his tongue "ah Kate, what about her?" I chuckled
"does she know you?" I asked.
"Of course?" Humphrey said with a concerned expression.
"I was over Her house today and she just learned about my fucking existence" Humphrey laughed before looking up at me again.
"Oh shit your serious," he said. I just gestured my hands. "What were you doing there?" he asked.
"Her mom texted me and asked to come over to fix her kitchen sink." I said, causing Humphrey to grow even more confused.
"How the hell do you have Her mom's number?" It was our turn to order so we quickly stepped up and put our orders in before stepping to the side to wait.
"Kate's mother and my mother are really good friends," I said.
"No shit" Humphrey said, surprised.
"I already talked to Angel about it. I don't know what to do. I have no chance, I said. Humphrey laughed again. "What?" I asked.
"Dude… i thought the same… fucking thing when i tried talking to Lilly for the first time" Humphrey explained with a smile.
"Oh yeah?" i asked
"yes. But you know what? I talked to her and eventually we got closer" Humphrey said, gesturing with his hands, trying to imitate himself and Lilly.
"Did you want to pay cash or card?" the worker asked us.
"Card" we both said.
"Humphrey don't worry about it I got you guys, '' Humphrey looked at me as I handed the girl my card.
"You sure?" He asked.
"Positive" I replied before grabbing our things and started heading back to our cars.
After a bit of catching up between the four of us, the movie was about to start so we got in our cars before we missed anything.
"What did you two talk about in the snack line?" Angel asked me.
"The same shit you and I did" I said, keeping my eyes on the screen.
"What my opinion wasn't enough?" she asked.
"It's not that. I needed a guy's opinion" I said, turning to her.
"Was it that much different?" she asked me.
"Pssh… no" I said, turning back to the screen. Angel giggled as she turned to the screen as the movie started.
After the movie was finished we said our goodbyes to Humphrey and Lilly before heading back home. It was almost ten oclock so the ride was silent. Both of us were tired and couldn't wait to get home. When we finally did arrive home I broke the silence.
"Hey Angie?" I asked.
"yea?" she responded.
"Thank you" I said before getting out of the truck.
"Anytime big bro" she said, grabbing her leftover popcorn.
Humphreys POV
Lilly and I were driving home. Talking about the movie,our relationship etc. finally it got silent and I decided to wing it.
"Hey Lils?" I asked.
"Yea?" she replied.
"Could you do me a favor?" I asked smugly.
"Depends," she responded.
"Rick needs our help I think and you're the only one that could have any type of input" Lilly looked over to me.
"What could he need me for?" she asked
"well he kind of… likes your sister" i said shooting a glance to her. She quickly smiled and burst with excitement.
"No way! I would love it if Rick and Kate dated, he's so nice id love to have him be a part of our family" my ears perked up.
"You consider me family?" I asked.
"Of course," she said, causing me to smile.
"Could you just put in a good word for him?" i asked.
"good and nothing but good" she said before turning back to the window.
Ricks POV
I woke up to my alarm.
"Fuck you" i said getting up. Checking the time i saw it was 6:30 "fuck me" i said laying back down before rolling back out of bed. I did my usual routine. I went to knock on Angel's door. "Hey, time to get up," I said.
"Fuck off" she moaned tossing a pillow at me. I threw it back.
"Ass up. Now" I said with a smile. Angel just groaned before sitting up. After that I Pissed, brushed my teeth, and showered, before putting my clothes on. Black jeans, grey button up and my favorite jacket. Brown with a fur collar. I grabbed a quick breakfast sandwich before calling Angel again.
"Yea yea yea" she said passing me. We hopped in my truck and set off to school. When we arrived I walked to my home room before sitting down and going on my phone for about ten minutes before the bell rang. I strolled down to the first period before realizing something.
"Shit i have to try and talk to Kate. what if she doesn't want to talk right now, or at all. Fuck it its early ill let the poor girl wake up" i thought before entering the class room and sitting down. As I got my pencils and stuff ready I saw in my side vision someone sit down. I didn't pay it any mind.
"Hey Rick" I heard a familiar voice say next to me. I turned to the seat next to me to see… Kate? Why is she sitting next to me over here? Her seat was open and no one took it. Is she smiling at me?
"Hey" I said with a nervous smile. What the fuck? I thought. I'm so grateful this is happening but what the fuck?
