Ricks POV

"Kate… please don't leave me." I whimpered silently. Of course, I finally befriended the girl of my dreams and now she's dead. I put my forehead against hers as I cried. Just then Humphrey and Lilly came out one of the school doors to see the horrific sight.

"KATE!" Lilly screamed, running over to us. Humphrey followed close behind. "What happened?" Lilly asked, starting to cry. I lifted my head up from Kates to face Lilly.

"She…" was all I could say as I broke down. I wiped the blood coming out her mouth before I felt something else on my thumb. "She's breathing," I said quickly.

"I called an ambulance," a random student said. Just then Kate opened her eyes a bit and wheezed as she tried to breathe.

"Kate, hold on. An ambulance is coming" said, still holding Her.

"It's not coming from the hospital," a student said.

"What?" I asked, panicking.

"The woman on the phone told me that their two ambulances are both on the other side of town."

"Kate just hang in there '' I heard Lily say.

"She can't wait that long," I said , picking her up and running over to my car. "HUMPHREY GET THE DOOR. NOW!" I yelled. He quickly ran over and opened the passenger door to my truck. As quickly as I could I seated Kate inside and put Her seat belt on, before hopping back down, and shutting the door. As I was running to the drivers side Garth stopped me

"what do you think you're doing? What for the fucking ambulance" he said.

"Garth the ambulance is over half an hour away, she needs medical attention now. Now GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY!" I yelled, pushing him to the side before he grabbed me.

"Hey-" was all he managed to say before i quickly punched him in the face knocking him to the ground. I didn't take the time to do anything else. I hopped in my truck and sped off as fast as my truck would take me.

"Rick?" Kate asked weakly before shutting her eyes again. My heart dropped.

"Hey. hey hey hey hey hey stay with me Kate, just keep your eyes open" i said as i ran a red light. I got beeps from other cars but I didn't care. I couldn't care. "Come on Kate, stay up'' I said, shaking Her. she started coughing harder and harder until blood came out, going all over my dashboard. "KATE!" I yelled holding her shoulder. I started to tear up again. "Kate dont leave me!" I yelled out, taking a sharp turn, trying to be as careful as possible, the last thing I needed was for this truck to flip. I passed a speed limit sign making me realise I was going 100 in a 55 but I couldn't slow down. Kate started to shut her eyes again before groaning in pain, "Kate you're gonna be fine, just keep your eyes open" i said

"it...hurts…" she wheezed out.

"I know Katie I know" I said crying. We were almost at the hospital. "Were almost there Kate" I said, turning my attention to Her again to see that her eyes were closed. "Kate… KATE!" I screamed, turning into the hospital parking lot as fast as I could. I stopped in front of the front doors before hopping out, I didn't even bother to shut the truck off, or close the door. The truck was the least of my concerns. I opened the passenger door and quickly unbuckled Kate's seatbelt, before picking Her up and carrying Her inside. I ran as fast as I could. Once inside I yelled out. "someone please… help me!" I couldn't help but let loose a few more tears.

"oh my god bring her here" a nurse said, grabbing a gurney and quickly bringing it over to me. I placed Kate down quickly but gently before they wheeled her into the back. I looked down at my hands to see that they were caked in Kate's blood as well as my shirt and the top of my jeans. I stood there shaking, unsure of what to do. There was only one thing to do though. Wait.

Slowly I walked back out to the front. My truck was still there but I could care less. I walked slowly over to the truck before reaching inside to turn it off. Taking a few steps back I saw that I left a bloody handprint on the seat as well as blood on the key. I looked at my shaking hands again before putting my back to the truck and sliding down. I leaned against it for about ten seconds before breaking down again.

Humphreys POV

I was on my way to the hospital with Lilly. I hope they made it. Lilly just sat in my passenger seat sobbing, creating the only noise in the car. I pulled into the hospital parking lot and found a spot before parking and getting out. Me and Lilly walked at the same pace, nervously thinking about how Kate is. When we were about three yards from the door we saw Rick's truck in front of the doors, and him sitting against his truck. Bloody and crying. Me and Lilly ran over to him.

"What happened? Where is Kate?" Lilly asked.

"She's inside," Rick said dryly.

"Is she gonna be okay?" I asked. Rick closed his eyes for about five seconds before responding.

"I don't know," he said. I took a glance inside the hospital before telling the others that I would be right back.

Ricks POV

Humphrey went inside to do god only knows what, before Lilly sat down next to me.

"I'm sure she'll be fine," she said sniffling. I turned to face Her.

"I pray to god she is" I responded.

"She will be… she has to be… she's a tough cookie" she said, forcing a chuckle while crying trying to brighten the mood.

"If I waited for the ambulance… i don't think she would have made it" i said picturing the horrible thought of losing Kate.

"yeah… we're still not out of the woods though," Lilly said, looking at the ground.

Humphrey came outside with some towels, handing them to me.

"For the blood" he said. I looked at him and then the towels before accepting.

"Thanks" I said emotionless. I started wiping my hands as Humphrey made an offer.

"Hey Rick, why don't I park your car and then we can wait inside" he suggested. I wiped my hands for a few seconds before responding.

"Okay" I said, getting up.

"Lilly, why don't you call your mom to tell her what happened while i park his truck" Humphrey said.

"Okay" Lilly sobbed, pulling out her phone. I just slowly walked into the hospital as Humphrey got in my truck and drove off. Meanwhile Lilly paced back and forth waiting for her mother to answer the phone. Once inside I took a seat and looked at my hands again. They went from bloody to covered in dried blood.

About seven minutes later, Humphrey came and sat down next to me.

"I'm sure she's fine," he said, turning to me. I only nodded. "You okay?" he asked me.

"No," I said dryly, keeping my eyes to the floor. Humphrey looked down at my hands before returning his gaze to my eyes.

"You want to go wash that off?" he asked me.

"I don't know if I can move right now." I said shakely.

"Why not?" he responded. "You okay?" he asked me again.

"Humphrey i… im just… scared" i answered turning to him. "I'm so scared…" I started to tear up again. "I finally made an impression on Her… and she ends up here" I said, turning back to the floor. "I hope she's okay," I whispered. Humphrey put His hand on my shoulder. I turned to him, tears filling my eyes.

"She'll be fine Rick, i know she will" he said trying to comfort Me.

"You didn't see her," I said. "She wasn't moving when we got here, there was so much blood…" I said breaking down. "You were just in my truck, you had to have seen the blood… on the seat… on the dashboard!" I yelled out a bit. "There was so much" I whispered to myself, balling up in the chair. Before Humphrey could respond Lilly came in and sat to my right.

"My parents are on the way," Lilly said, before bending towards me, putting a hand on my back, causing me to peek at her through my hands. "I called your sister, her and your mother are on the way" she said softly to me, i only nodded.

"You okay?" Humphrey asked Lilly.

"I don't know," she said, keeping her hand on me. "Rick?" She called me softly. I looked up at Her again. "You're shaking," she said. I didn't respond. Lilly then brought me into a hug before bursting into tears. "Thank you… thank you so much" I hugged her back crying softly again.

"For what?" I asked. She broke the hug and looked into my eyes.

"If it wasn't for you… i don't know if Kate would be here right now… she'd probably still be on the street" she responded sobbing.

"It's true," Humphrey said. "No telling how long they would have taken" I just shifted back over and balled up again.

We sat in silence for about ten minutes, before Eve and Winston came in, speed walking over to us.

"What happened?" Eve asked.

"She was run over by a student," Humphrey said.

"We didn't see it go down but we saw the car that did it" Lilly added. I just stayed silent.

"Is that?..." Winston started to ask, pointing to me.

"Yes… that's Kate's blood," Lilly said.

"Oh my god" Eve said as she started to cry. She walked over to me and knelt down, gently grabbing my hands and slowly pulling them away from my head. I looked into Her eyes. Not saying a word.

"He brought Her here," Lilly said.

"The ambulance was going to take too long," Humphrey added.

"Rick" Eve whispered as I just continued shaking. "Thank you" she said, pulling me into a hug, crying into my shoulder. I hugged Her back. Letting her cry into me.

"Have you guys heard anything?" Winston asked.

"No. nothing" Humphrey responded. Eve pulled away from me sniffling. She then started caressing my face.

"I'm sure she'll be fine" she said before standing up and walking over to the front desk. She must be asking about Kate. After a couple of words were exchanged between Eve and the person at the front desk, Her and Winston sat across from us. Only a short table was in the middle of us. "They come to get us when they're ready," Eve said.

After what felt like an eternity of sitting in silence a nurse came out and walked over to us.

"You can see her now," she said. We all quickly got up to follow. We all followed the nurse through the hallways until eventually reaching a room with a curtain blocking the door frame. Winston was the first inside. Eve followed before Lilly and Me . Humphrey was last. I was scared to find out what I was gonna see. Walking through the curtain though I saw Kate on a hospital bed. Not bloody, not coughing, and most importantly, not in pain. She was asleep. She looked so peaceful. "We're just waiting for Her to wake up. No telling how long it will take" the nurse said.

"What were the damages?" Eve asked.

"Well she has a broken leg, and she was also bleeding from Her side, something must have cut Her during the impact, what happened?" the nurse asked us.

"Car accident," I said quietly. She nodded before continuing.

"We don't know when she'll wake up, but we fixed up Her side and stopped the bleeding, there was nothing internal, as for Her leg…" she started walking to the bed and lifted the thin bed sheet, revealing a cast. "She'll need to wear this for a week or two. No telling how quick Her leg will heal" she covered Kate's foot back up before turning to us again. "Well give you crutches for when she wakes up" she said.

"Thank you" I said.

"Yes. thank you so much" Eve said.

"It's my job," the nurse said, smiling before heading out. "I'll be back in a few moments,'' she said.

"Told you she'd be fine" Lilly said, wrapping an arm around me. I let out a small laugh before thanking God.

After about eight minutes we heard a knock at the door. We turned to see My Mother and Angel.

"Hey…" my mom said, walking over to me, wrapping me in a tight hug. I accepted it gladly.

"I thought I lost Her" I said onto my mom's shoulder.

"Thanks to you we didn't" Eve said from Her chair in the corner of the now even more cramped room. My mom lifted my hands gently.

"Is this hers?" she asked. I nodded. My mother turned to Angel and motioned with her head to come over to me.

"Lilly told us you were messy so we brought you a change of clothes and some soap" Angel said, handing me neatly folded clothes.

"Thanks" I said.

"There should be a shower in the bathroom," Winston said. I nodded before walking to the bathroom door. I opened it before looking back at Kate and freezing.

"She'll be fine Rick," Lilly assured me. My eyes darted to the floor before I shut the door.

Lillys POV

Poor Rick I thought as I watched him shut the door. He really is one of the greatest people I ever met.

"He brought her here," my mom said, looking at Rick's mother.

"He did?" she asked.

"Yea. They couldn't wait for an ambulance to show up, so he brought her here" Ricks mom took a seat next to Angel before responding.

"He's such a good boy,"

My dad nodded. "I don't even know how to thank Him" he said looking at My sister. She didn't even look like she was just hit by a car. She looked like she was just taking a peaceful nap.

"What happened?" Angel asked.

"Someone hit Her with a car," Eve said angrily.

"It wasn't a hit and run, the girl who did it said she didn't see Her" I said.

"I dont give a shit" my dad said

"I want to have a talk with that girl personally," my mom added.

"Eve… i can't imagine what you're going through '' Rick's mother said.

"I'm just glad my babys okay" my mom responded, resting a hand on the hospital bed.

"When will she wake up?" Angel asked.

"We don't know," I answered. Humphrey put his hand on my leg to comfort me. I put my hand over his and gave him a gentle smile. Just then the nurse walked back in to ask if we had insurance. Of course they're worried about that. They talked about that for a bit until eventually Rick came out of the bathroom, nice and clean. He was holding his dirty clothes still but quickly put them on one of the counters. He then silently walked over to my sister and moved a seat right next to her bed, before sitting down. Afterwards he grabbed Her hand and just held it looking into my sister's closed eyes.

Ricks POV

After the shower I needed to be with Kate. I couldn't be without her for another second. I sat down and held Her hand with both of mine.

"You really love her don't you?" my mother asked.

"Who wouldn't?" I said softly. Angel belt next to me.

"Good job getting Her here," she said. I nodded gently before turning my attention back to Kate.

After the sun went down everyone was getting ready to go.

"We'll give you a call if she wakes up" one of the other nurses told Eve as they walked to the door. I however did not move. I was still holding Kates sift hands.

"Rick? Are you ready?" my mother asked.

"I'm not leaving Her" I said, not looking at Her.

"We do allow one visitor to stay overnight," the nurse said. Just then my mother knelt down next to me where Angel was earlier.

"Are you sure you want to stay?" she asked me.

"Yes," I said.

"Okay" she said before patting me on the shoulder, and walking out.

"See you later big bro" Angel said following Her. Humphrey only patted my shoulder before leaving.

"Thank you again," Lilly said before leaving. Once it was just me and Kate. I just continued holding Her hand before speaking.

"Kate… I'm so glad you're okay… but you've gotta wake up… i… love you…" I said before resting my head on her hand as well as holding it. "Please come back to me… please…"
