CHAPTER FOUR

Santana

I hear a loud scream come from the other end of the house.

I tilt my head up. "Brittany?" I shout, listening for my wife.

"Santana come quick!" I hear. Immediately I drop my phone on the couch and bolt up the stairs. I've never ran faster. I bolt into our room, where the screams are coming from. I brace myself to see terrible things. Blood. Guts. My beautiful wife in pain on the floor. I push open the door and stare at Brittany in surprise.

She's standing in the middle of our room, with her phone in her hand, perfectly safe and unharmed. Our boys are on the floor, grinning up at me.

"What's the matter?" I whisper.

Brittany squeals again and throws herself at me, kissing me directly on the lips, wrapping her arms around me. She picks me up by my waist and spins me around and around and around.

I pull away, "Britt, explain."

But my wife is too excited to speak, instead, she shoves her phone in my hands and pulls me down on the bed. She buries her face in my stomach and I rest the phone on her head. I read the email that's pulled up on her screen.

Dear Brittany Lopez-Peirce,

Girl! It's been a while! It's me, Mercedes. Listen, I need a huge favor. I'm going on tour in two weeks, and one of my backup dancers quit at the last minute. She was roughly your size, and you could learn the choreography easily. I was wondering if you would like to bring your family down to Las Angeles for the tour, and you could dance with me. Quinn is going to be singing back up with me, she's leaving in two days and you could get a ride with her. Kurt and Blaine are coming to watch on the third, and Rachel and Finn are coming with them. Bring Santana if you want! I would love to meet your kids, so would Sam!

Much love,

Mercedes Jones

I stare at the email. It had been so long since we were in contact with any of the glee clubbers other than Quinn. Now Mercedes was inviting Brittany to dance with her, and inviting our family to go see her perform!

"Babe," I say, "This is incredible! You have to go!"

Brittany sits up, "Are you sure? I would have to leave so soon, and then I would be gone for two weeks rehearsing, and then there's the show here, and then we're leaving to travel for another week. I would miss your sweet lady kisses."

"And I would miss yours, but you have to go. This would be an amazing experience for you, I can survive three weeks."

Brittany bites her lip, "You should come with me."

I smile, "We have three kids. And I have a job. Plus, I read somewhere that it's not a working couple if we can't be apart, we can't completely rely on each other. We need to have our own lives."

Brittany's expression changes to terror, tears well up in her eyes. "I don't want a divorce!" she sobs.

I pull her close to me, "No no no, I'm not saying we should get a divorce baby. I'm just saying that I think we can go a few weeks without kisses."

Brittany takes a shaky breath, and places her lip on top of mine. Sometimes she does this, and it makes me go crazy. She'll just put her lips on mine. She won't kiss me, she won't move, she just breathes through me, leaving me itching for more.

"It's gonna be hard," she whispers. I shiver, feeling her lips move against mine.

"We can do it," I say. I can't take it any longer. I press myself into her and push her down on the bed. I straddle her and we move as one, well oiled machine

"Jade!" I sing, doing an impressive scale. My voice cracks on the last note. I really should sing more. I put my ear to Jade's door. She is talking to someone.

"Come in!" she says. I creak the door open and smile at my daughter. Jade is on the phone, and she's smiling. She's been smiling a lot lately, ever since the soccer game three weeks ago, her and Ava have been talking nonstop.

"Alright Ava," she says into the phone, "I'll call you back in a few minutes."

My daughter giggles at something Ava says and grins at me, "Miss you more," she says, blushing. I roll my eyes. "Bye!"

Jade hangs up the phone and looks at me. I shake my head at her.

"What?" she exclaims.

I pout, "I miss you more," I mimicked, causing Jade to groan.

"Stop Mami!" she laughs. I drop my act and cross my arms, leaning against the doorframe.

"So…" I say, wriggling my eyebrows, "Are you and Ava official yet?"

Jade blushes again, "No… I'm too scared to say anything, and I think she's waiting for me."

I set myself down on her bed. "Come on JJ," I say, "You're a Lopez, you're not scared."

Jade sighs, "Yeah, but I'm not Santana Lopez. I'm not like you, you're not scared of anything."

I look at my daughter's dark eyes, hiding behind her sheet of jet black hair, slightly curlier than mine. I take her chin in my hand and tilt her face up.

"That's where you're wrong amor, I am scared of things. I was scared of asking your mom to be my girlfriend. It took my years, and even when we both knew I wanted it, I couldn't say the words. It took my years of being head over heels for her, to even say the words I Love You. I was scared, as scared as you. But what makes me a Lopez is that I overcame my fear because I knew how much she mattered to me."

Jade nods.

"Does Ava mean a lot to you?" I ask.

Jade nods again.

"So go get her, I say, cringing at my own cheesiness. Jade laughs, "Thank Mami," she says.

I wink at her, and then remember the reason I came into the room anyway.

"Jade!" I sing, "Your mom has an exciting announcement!"

Jade's eyes lit up, and she bolted downstairs, followed by me.

"You're leaving me with her?" Jade exclaims, the minute she hears the news. "For three weeks? She's gonna kill me!"

My jaw drops open, "Excuse me? I am your mother, I would never hurt you!"

Brittany looks at me.

"Yeah," Jade says, "But mom keeps you happy. Without her, you'll be… scary."

I cross my arms, and move to my wife's side. "I think you're underestimating me Jade," I say. "I can be very loving."

Jade rolls her eyes, "You don't get it."

"I think I get it fine," I say, "You're grounded. Until Mom leaves."

Jade's mouth drops open. "What did I do?" she exclaims.

"You were rude to me," I say.

Jade locks her jaw and glares at me. "Stop her mom!" she says to Brittany. I stare at my wife, and Brittany's eyes move from mine to Jades, deciding who's side to pick.

She opens her mouth, "Well… maybe you're being unreasonable San-"

I hold up my finger to her lips, "My Love," I warn, "Don't."

She gulps and takes a step back from us.

Jade glares holes into my brain. "I hate you," she whispers.

"Oh yeah?" I say, "I hate you more."

"You're so annoying!" Jade cries, clenching her fists to her side.

"You're so annoying!" I can't help but mimic.

"Stop Mama!"

"Stop Mama!"

"How old are you?"

"How old are you?"

Brittany places a hand on my back, telling me that I was being too much. I lower my hands, slightly ashamed.

"Go to your room Jade," I say. Jade turns violently and stomps to her room.

After I hear her door slam, I turn sheepishly to Brittany. She doesn't say anything.

I clear my throat, "Hey cutie…" I say, Brittany throws her hands in the air.

"Santana! You were right to get mad at Jade for being rude to you, but you took it too far, you were imitating her like you were five years old!"

I pout, "I'm sorry baby," I say, adding a sexy layer to my voice.

Brittany shakes her head and walks away, "I'm not in the mood. If you don't want Jade to think that I won't be able to calm you down over these weeks, then you better get your act together."

I cross my arms, Brittany never walks away from my sexy voice. She walks into the kitchen, and starts making lunches. I trail after her.

"I'm sorry," I say, "I really am. I'll apologize to Jade, just kiss me first. Please Britt, don't be mad at me. You're leaving in a day, don't be mad. I love you so much, what do you want me to do for you? I'll do anything. Where's your phone, I'll go charge it. I know you always forget. Baby," I plead, "Turn around and talk to me? I love you?"

My wife keeps her back to me as she spreads hummus on two pieces of bread. I trace her side with my finger, but she doesn't respond.

"Do you want me to go get the boys from their nap? Britts? Are you really mad?"

Finally, Brittany turns around and looks at me. She's smirking.

"You're so whipped," she says.

"Am not!" I say, laughing.

"Are too," Brittany says, pulling my hips to hers and kissing me softly. She pulls away after a second. I pout.

"We're alone," I whisper, "Kiss me like you mean it."

Brittany smiles at me, and her hands roam my back, she bites her lip and leans forward, hesitating slightly. I move the last inch and pull her head into mine, interlocking our lips. I suck on her bottom lip and her tongue makes its way into my mouth. I moan, and Brittany pulls me closer. We make out for a few more minutes, until I pull my lips away and move to her neck. I have her backed up against the kitchen counter, and her hands are in my hair. I pepper her neck with kisses, stopping right under the ear to suck, hard. I nip at her skin, and she whimpers.

"Yo quiero you," Brittany moans in my ear. I smile at her Spanish, and continue kissing every inch of her skin I can find. Slowly, Brittany starts to grind her hips against mine. Her hand moves from my hair back down to my ass, and she grabs it, moving my hips against hers.

I lick my lips. Brittany's wearing a loose crop top, so I grab the end in my hand and pull it over her head, discarding it on the floor. I study Britt's toned, flat stomach, and trace a finger down it.

"You're so beautiful," I say to her, staring into her eyes.

"I love you," she responds.

I crouch down. My head is at the same level as her stomach. I stick out my tongue, and lick her, tracing my way up her body, stopping at her sports bra. I start to pull that off too, when her phone rings.

I groan, flopping down at the island. Brittany looks at me sadly, and picks up her phone.

"Hello?" she says. "Oh hi Quinn!"

I scowl. Quinn Fabray interrupted our make out session. Revenge would come. Brittany kept her eyes on me as she talked.

"Yeah, I'm going!... Leaving tomorrow?... I haven't packed… will you pick me up in the morning?...Santana's on a vacation from work so she can stay with the kids… I'm so excited! We're gonna have so much fun!... Ok bye Quinn!"

Brittany hangs up the phone, and smiles at me. "Quinn's picking me up tomorrow morning, and we're driving to Las Angeles together."

I pout, "I can drive you!"

Brittany leans across the island and kisses my pouting lips. "We have three children and we'll be leaving early in the morning. I need you to stay here babe."

I sigh, "Okay, okay, let's go get you packed." I hold out my hand and Brittany takes it, after putting her shirt back on. We make our way upstairs, and pull out our giant suitcase. I start to pull clothes and undergarments and pictures of me into the suitcase for Brittany. She sits on our bed and talks my ear off about how excited she is to dance again, and for the performance and to see all of the glee kids and their kids. I nod and say "mhm" at the appropriate time.

Finally, I zip up the suitcase and hand it to Brittany. Brittany throws her arm around me, kissing my cheeks.

"You're the best," she says, taking my hands. "Let's go out for dinner tonight!"

"Just the two of us?" I grin.

Brittany nods, "Yeah, we can get Jade to babysit, as part of her punishment. Maybe she could invite a friend over."

"Just not Ava," I add. I still don't trust them together.

Brittany laughs, "Oh it's perfect Sanny! Let's go tell Jade! Actually, I'll go talk to her. You go play with the twins, I'll be back."

Brittany bolts out of the room, leaving me dumbfounded and laughing. My wife gets very energetic when she is excited. She literally couldn't sleep when Jade was born, which was good I guess because it was all I wanted to do.

I hear Brittany talking to Jade down the hall, so I waltzed into the twin's room. Tyler was still sleeping, but James was staring at the ceiling, wide awake.

"Hola," I whisper, "Good afternoon little man!"

James smiles at me and I take him in my arms. He wraps his little hand around my neck, and nuzzles his face into my shoulder.

I breathe in his fresh baby smell and carry him downstairs. Brittany and Jade are still upstairs, so I take some laps around the giant living room, waltzing my baby to comfort.

"Sing Mami," James says. I smile, and start to sing a simple tune. I take one of his hands in mine and we spin around the floor. Suddenly, a memory comes to me, a memory I had forgotten about. I remembered the first song Brittany and I had ever danced to. Twenty five years ago, I was slow dancing with my best friend. Now I'm slow dancing with her son. My son. Our son. I grin through my tears, and switch my tune to the first song I ever pressed myself against Brittany too .

"And you can tell everybody

This is your song

It may be quite simple, but now that it's done

I hope you don't mind

I hope you don't mind

That I put down in the words

How wonderful life is while you're in the world"

I hear a sigh from the staircase. I turn my head, stopping singing, but not stopping rocking my son. His hand rests against my bare neck.

I smile softly at Brittany, and then smile at Jade. She is looking at me, and tears are streaming down her face. Brittany sees my expression change, and comes and takes James off of my shoulder, leaving Jade and I alone.

"I'm so sorry Mami," she cries into my arms, after a moment. I stroke her head.

"It's ok, it's ok."

"No," she sobs, "I was stupid. You're like, the most loving person I know, I don't know why I would ever say that you would hurt me, even if I wasn't being totally serious. I'm so sorry."

"It's alright mi hija, I forgive you."

Jade pulls away and wipes her eyes, sniffling. "I think I'm going to ask Ava to be my girlfriend tonight," Jade blurts out. I try to keep my expression even, not showing a reaction.

"Ok," I croak. Jade rolls her eyes.

"Is there a problem?" she asks.

"No," I say, "Nothing it's just… you're kinda young for a girlfriend, right?"

Jade glares at me, "No Mami, I'm fifteen."

I throw up my hands, "Ok ok! Just, keep it innocent ok?"

Jade wraps her arms around my waist. "I know, thank you. Te quiero."

"Yo también te amo, hija mia," I say, kissing her forehead.

Jade

I trace squiggly lines up and down Tyler's tummy, as I watch my mami get ready in front of the mirror. She's obsessing over this one specific curl in her hair.

"It needs to be softer," she mutters to herself as she plays with the strand of hair. She groans. "Ugh, now you can barely see it." She brings the curling iron back up to her head, and winds and rewinds the hair through it, over and over again.

"Mami!" I exclaim, "You're going to burn it!"

She groans again and practically throws the hot iron across the room. "Forget it! I'm not going!"

I roll my eyes, "Ok, I'll go tell Mom," I say, pretending to get up.

"No! It's fine, I just want it to be perfect."

"You look beautiful, Mami."

"Thank you JJ," Mami says, smiling at me.

My mami pulls an overcoat over her skimpy red dress that she fished out of her closet. My mami took one last look at herself in the mirror, and walked out of the room. I shook my head, scooped Tyler into my arms, and followed her. I was only a few seconds behind my mami as we entered the living room, but when I got there, my moms were already in a tight embrace, gushing over how beautiful the other was. I sigh, and cover my brother's eyes with my hands. He giggles and pulls down one of my thumbs to suck on it. Once my moms get done kissing and hugging each other, I turn to them.

"So, can I invite Ava over?" I ask. Mami isn't even looking at me, she's openly staring at Mom, smiling softly.

"Uhuh," Mom says, barely looking at me. "Once the boys go to sleep. We're going to, uh, go." Mom stuck out her hand and Mami took it excitedly.

"Be safe!" Mami shouts as they scramble out the door. I roll my eyes, but I can't help but smile. I'm glad my parents love each other, many parents who have kids my age don't. Tyler squirmed out of my arms and crawled to James.

They babbled to each other and handed this ratted stuffed lion back and forth. I sat on the couch, watching them interact. After a minute or two of senseless play, I motioned for them to follow me into the kitchen. My mom had cooked a box of Mac and cheese before she left, so I throw two bowls of it in the microwave, and sing a little song to the twins as we wait.

As soon as they finished eating, I changed them into their pajamas and tucked them into their beds.

"Sing JJ!" James asks.

"Por favor!" Tyler adds.

I sit down in the rocking chair in the corner of the room, and start to sing an old lullaby Mami would sing me.

"Hush, little baby, don't say a word,

Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird.

If that mockingbird don't sing,

Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring.

If that diamond ring turns to brass,

Mama's gonna buy you a looking glass.

If that looking glass gets broke,

Mama's gonna buy you a billy-goat.

If that billy-goat won't pull,

Mama's gonna buy you a cart and bull.

If that cart and bull turns over,

Mama's gonna buy you a dog named Rover.

If that dog named Rover won't bark,

Mama's gonna buy you a horse and cart.

If that horse and cart falls down,

You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town."

When I'm done with the lullaby, I checked in the cribs of my little brothers. They were both asleep, their mouths in little Os. I immediately pulled out my phone and shot a text to Ava as I was closing the door.

Do you want to come over? I'm babysitting my brothers and they're asleep.

are your moms okay with it? i dont want the wrath of santana upon me

Lol, they're fine
