Kate's POV

I woke up slowly, opening my eyes as I groaned. I turned to my right to see Rick was still sleeping from last night. At some point I must have turned over. Normally we snuggled and almost never broke apart. But last night I guess my body felt like wandering. I yawned and lifted the covers off of me. I then crawled out of the bed and stood up, being careful not to wake Rick up the whole time, he was so cute while he slept. I grabbed my phone and a change of clothes. I had to go out and grab another pregnancy test today, it had been almost ten days since the first one and I had to double check as Winter instructed. Taking my phone I saw the half sucked on candy cane from last night. I smiled at the sexy memory. We had just gotten done having sex and Rick got off of me. We kissed for a bit until I asked him to lean over and take the candy cane out of my sweatshirt pocket. He handed it to me and I opened it and started sucking. I then held it out to him which he accepted. He started sucking on the now saliva drenched candy cane. I pulled it out and put it back in my mouth. Rick laughed and crawled back on top of me. I took it back out and we kissed again and proceeded to go for a second round. What a sexy way to end the night. After picking it up I walked into the bathroom and tossed it in the trash. I then brushed my teeth and peed before taking a quick shower. Once I was done I dried off and placed the towels and wash rags in the hamper as Rick told me to do. I put my outfit on which was some jeans and black long sleeve rolled up to my elbows. I then fixed my hair and fur in the mirror and opened the door to head out. There I was met by Angel who ran past me making me stand against the wall.

"Hi Angel," I said, startled.

"Hey, sorry but I really had to piss and you were just… what took you so long?" she asked.

"I showered" I answered, I then turned away from her as she sat on the toilet. "You know you could have just come in," I said.

"Yeah but I didn't want to make you feel weird" Angel said as she finished up. She stood up and washed her hands. My ears perked up as I heard the sink turn on. I turned around to face her again. "Were you going somewhere?" she asked.

"I had to pick something up, want to come with? Maybe get out for a bit?" I offered.

"What you mean that breakfast you offered?" Angel asked.

"If you want," I offered with a smile. Angel turned the sink off and shook her hands and then dried them off with a towel.

"Sure, just you and me right?' Angel asked.

"Yeah" I said. Angel smiled.

"Sounds great, let me just go get ready, I'll just throw something on" she said as she passed me again, this time at a slower pace instead of a dashing speed.

"Alright, I'll be downstairs" I said.

"See you there" she called from her room. I then entered Rick's room and grabbed a couple more things. My wallet and sweatshirt. I really had to have some jackets here with these outfits. When Lilly told me she just kept outfits at Humphrey's it sounded like a great idea. If only I had thought to bring some jackets. Rick was still asleep to which I gave him a light peck on the head making him smile as he slept. How cute. I went downstairs and sat on the couch while I waited. It wasn't until five minutes later that Angel came down the stairs.

"You all ready?" I asked.

"Yeah," Angel answered. We then silently went outside and locked up. sitting in my car after I unlocked it. I drove off and we went to the pharmacy.

"I hope you don't mind but we have to stop at the pharmacy" I warned.

"No I don't care, what did you need?" Angel asked. I felt myself stiffen at the question. I had tried to keep the whole pregnancy thing between me, Rick, and Winter and so far I had succeeded, but with Angel asking I could just lie to her but I felt wrong doing that to her. Could she keep a secret? So far my thought process was that I won't lie but I won't say anything either. Maybe I could try and find a way to tell her without telling her.

"I needed to pick up my meds," I said.

"You're on meds?" Angel asked.

"Yeah, just some things to help me focus on things," I said. That wasn't a complete lie, during school I always had a hard time paying attention in class. Always drifting off into my own thoughts. Or simple spacing out. So I was prescribed pills that helped me concentrate. I took them every now and then but since Rick had started being around me I have been getting better grades thanks to him. In the classes we had together anyway.

"Well if you need them" Angel said.

"Yeah, where did you want to eat?" I asked.

"Hmm, I hear that Larry's has good breakfast," Angel said.

"Larry's… Larry's sounds good" I said. By now the front windshield had cleared up of any condensation and I could see way better out of it. The heat was blasting due to the freezing morning air. It wasn't really that early but the cold air still lingered.

"Thanks again for the presents and everything else Kate," Angel said.

"Of course, thank you for everything as well, I can't believe you spent so much" I said.

"I like to spend money on people, especially on people I like," Angel replied. I laughed.

"You really like me huh?" I asked.

"Of course I do, you're like a sister to me" Angel said.

"What about Lilly?" I asked.

"We're all a family Kate" she answered. I smiled.

"I'm glad," I said. It wasn't long until we pulled into the pharmacy. I told Angel to wait in the car while I ran inside. She didn't mind so I stepped out, making sure to keep the car running so she did not freeze to death. I walked inside and found that Winter wasnt working. It was whatever but I needed this test. I went to the sexual health and picked up one of the tests which to my surprise was only fifteen dollars. I then made the awkward purchase and walked back to the car. I sat down and tossed the bag to the back seat so that Angel didn't see what was in it. She looked up from her phone and gave a confused look.

"What?" I asked.

"Well normally when you get medicine they give you another type of bag, you know the crinkly ones" Angel said. I stared at her for a moment and then put the car in reverse.

"They were out of those" I lied. That time I lied.

"What did you need to get something embarrassing? Is it the heat pills? Don't tell me you're just getting them now" Angel said.

"It's not birth control, can you just drop it please?" I asked.

"Come on Kate, you can tell me anything, remember? What is it?" she asked. I sighed.

"Not now, just not now" I said. I felt myself growing tense and scared. I'm not even sure why. Me and Angel had formed sort of a bond where we could talk to each other, so why did I feel this way? I guess I was still scared about the whole pregnancy thing.

"Okay, sorry" Angel apologized.

"Don't apologize, I'll tell you at breakfast okay? But you gotta promise it stays between us" I said. The ride was silent for a moment until Angel spoke again. Honestly the silence made me nervous, why isn't she answering the question?

"Kate? Are you pregnant?" she asked. I turned to her quickly as my mouth dropped open. Was it that obvious? I turned back to the road and shut my mouth as I felt myself gulp. "No way," Angel whispered.

"Angel… I-Im not pregnant" I stuttered.

"Kate…" she tried to comfort.

"I'll tell you at breakfast okay?" I said as I felt myself really start to tense up.

"Sorry, fuck it's our first time hanging out just us two and I'm fucking it all up" Angel said. I turned to her again and then sighed as I turned back to the road.

"You're not ruining anything, I just can't talk about it all right now, I'd rather tell you when we're actually face to face," I explained.

"Oh… okay" Angel said. The air was now filled with tension, it was really awkward. I decided to change the subject.

"So that whole homicide thing… were you being serious?" I asked.

"Yeah, it might sound weird but serial killers always fascinated me, and I feel like investigating crime scenes and such will be interesting. Plus if I can help put some of these guys away it will be sick" Angel explained.

"You're not at all scared about going after those people?" I asked.

"Well there's always gonna be fear, but that's the thrill of it all" Angel said. I nodded.

"I guess I can see that," I said.

"Plus it's more detective work than anything, investigating crime scenes, linking them up. It's really the rest of the police that step in to handle the other shit" Angel explained.

"So you did some research?" I asked.

"I did," Angel answered. I smiled as I pulled into the parking lot.

"I'm sure it will all be fine, you'll be a great detective" I said.

"How do you know?" Angel asked.

"Because you somehow guessed everything about that pharmacy trip with little to no information" I explained. Angel laughed as I picked a spot to park.

"What about you Kate?" Angel asked. I turned off the car and thought.

"I think… I want to write books, be an author or something" I answered.

"An author? You? Mrs hotty?" Angel asked, making me laugh again.

"What I can't write because people think I look good?" I asked.

"Yes," Angel said. We shared a laugh and then stepped out of the car.

"Holy shit it's cold" I complained. I locked my car and met up with Angel and we began walking to the restaurant.

"Yeah, we're half way through winter though," Angel said.

"Thank God for that" I replied, holding the door open for Angel.

"Thanks" she said as she passed me.

"No problem" I said as I stepped inside after her. We got a booth and sat down, thanking the girl that sat us.

"I already know what I want," Angel said. I nodded and grabbed a menu. What sounded good to me? Eh, fuck it. Pancakes and bacon would do it. The menu wasn't even in my hands for ten seconds until I put it down. "So Kate, you said that I was right about the whale pregnancy thing, are you really having a pup?" Angel asked.

"No," I said. At that moment the waiter came and asked what we wanted to drink. Angel ordered a chocolate milk while I just got some orange juice. He then went to go and grab us our drinks.

"So what's the story then?" Angel asked. I sighed as I looked down at the table and then raised my eyes to look at hers.

"After Rick woke up and came home we… started having sex not even realizing that I could have been in heat" I said.

"Oh shit" Angel replied.

"Yeah" I said as the waiter quickly brought us our drinks. He then asked us if we were ready to order. I ordered what I had planned while Angel got french toast with a small ham steak. The waiter wrote it down and then told us he would put it in. We thanked him and he was off.

"So what happened?" Angel asked.

"I took a test already, it came up negative, but I was told that I should try again in about ten days. It's been almost ten days and I'm going to try again" I explained.

"Does Rick know?" Angel asked.

"Yeah" I answered. Angel nodded and then asked another question.

"How did you guys forget?"

"Well I guess while he was in the hospital I just wasn't thinking about it, and then when he woke up that's all I could think about so…" I said. Angel nodded again.

"What are you gonna do if you are pregnant?" she asked.

"I'm gonna keep it, I wouldn't do anything like get rid of it, it would be hard with my parents and all, and it would suck having to raise a pup this early on in my life, but it's a part of me and Rick, and I wouldn't dare get rid of it" I explained.

"You know Kate, you would be an amazing mother" Angel complimented. I tilted my head in confusion.

"What makes you say that?" I asked.

"After the courtroom and all that, you really helped me that day, you felt extremely motherly and… it was really nice" Angel explained. I hadn't even thought of that? Would I really be a good mother? I don't know, dealing with something like that would be fine every now and then but constantly doing it? I think I would lose it.

"I don't know Angel, I think maybe when I'm older but now… I don't think so" I explained.

"You know me and Shaky were talking about having pups" Angel said. My eyes widened.

"Not now, right?" I asked.

"Pssh fuck no not now, but later. I'm trying to plan out everything now so life goes smoothly for me, I just want my job, my boyfriend, and a pup or two" Angel explained.

"What did Shaky say about it?" I asked.

"He agrees, you know he told me he wants to be a director of sorts" Angel explained.

"A director? I can see him doing that, it's gonna be hard for him though because he'll have to break out of his dad's business" I said.

"Nah, his dad's pretty chill, and from what he tells me, his dad is actually very supportive of the idea" Angel explained.

"When do you two have these talks?" I asked.

"After sex" Angel answered. She then took a sip of her chocolate milk.

"Huh, hey Angel, do you ever feel like you lost your virginity too young?" I asked. Personally I know, but I was curious.

"Maybe, I don't know. I remember back in middle school girls were giving it up at thirteen, so for me fifteen isn't too bad, besides Lilly lost her's at fourteen" Angel answered.

"I guess as long as we're not just doing it to do it" I said.

"Yeah, I wanted to at least do it with someone I loved," Angel said. Which was weird to me. She slept with Humphrey before Shaky, not that she wanted to, actually she did but after she and Shaky actually got together it was Lilly that pushed her. I still couldn't believe that my sister did that. It really could have cost us this family.

"I'm happy for you two" I said.

"Thanks, I'm glad you're dating my brother too, he always obsessed over you" Angel tattled.

"Obsessed? I wish I knew sooner" I said.

"You know Shaky liked you too, why did you never look at him?" Angel asked. Even though I shouldn't have been, I was surprised. The more time I spent with this girl the more I was starting to realize that anything goes.

"He just… seemed like he wasn't interested in me as a person" I answered.

"Honestly I was surprised to find out that he liked me, Rick had to show me evidence that he liked me for me to see it" Angel said.

"Evidence?" I asked.

"Evidence as in the picture that we took at dave and busters, he had his arm wrapped around me, just little things like that" Angel explained. It seemed like so long since we all went to dave and busters. I had a newfound appreciation for that place because of the memories I had made there. It was the start of everything, at least when it came to everyone in the group.

"Great memories," I said as I smiled. Even though I wasn't there. I was with my grandparents, which reminded me. "Oh shit, I'm gonna have to go to my grandparents" I said.

"For christmas?" Angel asked. I nodded.

"We go there every year," I told her.

"I miss our grandparents, I was really close with them," Angel said.

"Did they… die from old age?" I asked.

"Yeah, it was my grandfather first, and then my grandmother two years later. After he died she wanted to spend more time with me and Rick then ever. Rick and her were more close but she still loved me to death. Rick took it hard, after he heard the news he went into his room, didn't come out for days. Didn't eat, didn't sleep I'm pretty sure, I would hear him crying every now and then. Even when he did come out he didn't talk" Angel explained.

"I'm sorry to hear," I said. I couldn't picture Rick doing that which made it all the more sad for me. He must have been crushed.

"I just hope we don't have to go through that for awhile, I know one day our parents are gonna die, you can never be ready for it. I just hope it doesn't happen too soon, but when it does I know Rick will go through that stage all over again" Angel explained.

"We'll be there for him," I said. Angel nodded.

"It doesn't make it any easier though, just enjoy your grandparents while they're there Kate, you never fully appreciate them until they're gone" Angel suggested. Before I could respond our food came out, stopping the conversation from progressing. I'm not sure if that was such a bad thing honestly. As I ate I couldn't shake the image of Rick out of my head. Family must be so important to him. I think I could get behind that though. If something were to happen to my parents or Lilly it would shatter me. I'm just glad he's doing better now. I really hoped though that none of us had to go through something like that for a while. Actually I did feel something like that, when Rick was in the hospital, when I thought I was going to lose him. I thought seeing him in that state was hard but if I lost him… yeah I saw it all clearly now.

"How's your food?" Angel asked. I shook myself out of my thoughts.

"Really good. Yours?" I asked. Angel simply nodded with a smile. We ate and then paid our bill, leaving the waiter a ten dollar tip before heading back out to the car, we sat inside and buckled up as I turned on the car and heat again.

"Thanks Kate," Angel said.

"Anytime, we'll do this again okay?" I asked.

"Sounds good," Angel answered. We drove home as Angel played her music in the car. When we got back to her house I grabbed the pharmacy bag and walked with her inside. "You gonna check on that?" Angel asked.

"Yeah, I want to see if your brother is up first though" I said.

"Alright," Angel said as she walked up the stairs. I followed her until we got to Rick's door where we parted ways. I opened it to see that Rick wasn't there. I looked around as if that would help but eventually saw him through the window. He seemed to be shooting bottles with an airsoft rifle. I sighed and then went into the bathroom. I pulled my pants down and sat on the toilet. I then opened up the box to grab the test like I did before. It took a moment for me to remember how it worked but after I did I peed into it and then waited. As I did I felt mostly confident but that chance seemed to stand on my shoulder, keeping me in constant worry. This was it, moment of truth. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

"Please dont be pregnant, please dont be pregnant" I repeated just like the first time. With one swift motion I then opened my eyes to look at the test. It was negative. I closed my eyes and sighed again. Smiling as I felt excitement build within me. "Thank God" I said. I stood up, pulled my pants up and tossed the test in the trash. I then washed my hands and walked downstairs. I opened the door again and made my way to the backyard where Rick was still shooting. He noticed me and looked at me from the side and then lowered the gun.

"Hey" he greeted.

"Hey" I replied. Rick put the gun on the ground and hugged me, pulling me into a warm kiss. Once our lips parted I smiled. "I'm not pregnant," I said.

"You checked again?" Rick asked.

"Yeah, that's why I left. Well that and to have breakfast with Angel" I explained. Rick chuckled and gave me another peck and then broke the hug.

"Yeah I figured you guys were doing something like that" he said as he picked the rifle back up. He then took aim and shot a bottle. It shattered, causing me to be impressed.

"Fancy shooting, can I try?" I asked. Rick turned to me and smiled. He then simply handed me the gun.

"You know we all play airsoft sometimes, if you want to come" Rick offered. I laughed.

"Sure, I would love to shoot you guys," I said.

"Alright, we use plastic bbs though, not the pellets that are in this gun now" Rick explained.

"What's the difference?" I asked.

"Well, a normal bb wouldn't shatter that glass" Rick answered. I nodded and then looked through the scope, taking aim at one of the bottles. I took a shot and missed. "Your arms aren't spread enough, I can see you struggling to hold that" Rick said.

"Then how should I hold it?" I asked. Rick came up and hugged me from behind, fixing my arms and hands to hold the gun perfectly. This was sexy, his embrace always felt so warm.

"Now just take a deep breath, and shoot '' Rick instructed as he carefully let go of my arms. I did as he said and thanks to the cold air I could actually see my breath, thanks to his tips though I managed to shoot and hit the bottle, shattering it on only my second try.
