Chapter 10
To my surprise Nugget and Snowy had taken to each other and were currently asleep on top of my drawers. I chuckled quietly and grabbed my hat and scarf before heading out into the common room. I made a beeline straight for Hannah, completely ignoring Cedric. Today was Gryffindor's match against Slytherin and the last thing I wanted was to talk Quidditch with Cedric. He hadn't really made any kind of move to apologise to me and maybe I was being overly sensitive, but he had really hurt my feelings.
"Hey Hannah" I smiled as I made my way over to her.
"Hey Shell, are you going to the match?" She asked gathering her winter robe up.
"Of course!" We laughed and made our way out of the common room and towards the main entrance. I guess I've never really explained what Quidditch is. Think of it like the wizarding world's version of football (Soccer for the Americans) only there are three different types of balls involved and broomsticks. The Quaffle; a burgundy colour with what could be classed as dents in the side was the main one, the chasers would pass the ball around the field and throw it through one of three hopes, scoring 10 points for their team. The bludgers which are made of iron and are bewitched to try to knock players of their brooms, effectively a nasty little bugger and one to avoid. Finally, there is the golden snitch, this little ball can end the game and is the most difficult to catch. It's about the size of a walnut with silver wings and can only be caught by the team's seeker. Each team is made up of 7 players, three chasers, two beaters, a keeper and a seeker, but don't let it fool you, as fun as quidditch looks, it can be very brutal.
Hannah and I made our way down towards the Quidditch pitch, laughing and joking with each other. To say it was nearly winter, the sun was warm and the air crisp.
"So, how's potions going?" I asked.
"I think Snape must have a thing for Werewolves, that's three weeks now we've been working on the wolfsbane potion" She sighed running a hand through her blonde hair. I frowned, unless it was the curriculum there was no reason for Snape to be informing students of such a potion. Yes, it's what helps me during a full moon, as it makes the transformations slightly easier, but my condition wasn't common knowledge as far as I knew.
"Really?" I made sure my tone was coloured with confusion.
"Yeah, it's getting really annoying now" She sighed "and he wants us to write a 3-page essay on the potion and its use".
"Well, if you need any help with your essay, I'd be happy to give you some pointers, you could say I'm an expert on the subject" I smiled, and we carried on making our way down to the pitch. As we got closer to the oval shaped stadium, you could hear the roar of cheers as the players practiced their shots.
"Miss Evans" the gruff, sneering voice of Professor Snape made me halt in my tracks. Hannah looked at me confused but I motioned for her to carry on and find a place to watch the game.
"Professor?" I hesitated slightly, watching as an array of emotions flickered through his night-coloured eyes, yet amazed at how his face stayed emotionless.
"My office now" He glared at me, before turning on his heel, his cape flowing out behind him.
"But Sir, the game" I frowned. What could be so important?
"Now Miss Evans!" He grumbled but carried on moving, so I could only hear is answer faintly. I sighed and followed, feeling disappointed that I was missing the first match of the season. I just hope it was nothing serious and I was praying that Nugget hadn't escaped and was wreaking havoc, Professor Kettleburn would kill me.
I followed Snape into the dungeons and recoiled at the dark, foreboding sight. Each wall was cast in a different shade of green and the smell was nothing to write home about. Snape burst through the door into the potions classroom before turning on his heel to glare at me.
"You wanted to see me Professor?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady and my manner calm.
"It would seem Miss Potter that your brother is just as insufferable as your father, and you would do well to keep him in check" He muttered through gritted teeth. I felt my eyebrow raise slightly at his mention of my last name and swallowed my sarcastic retort. I may have mentioned before that Snape and my father never really got along when they were in school.
"Forgive me Professor, but I am of the understanding that Harry doesn't know who I am" I replied also trying to keep my temper in check. One thing about being a werewolf, was my temper was very short. Now I knew all the teachers were told about my condition, which meant Snape knew as well, so why was he trying to taunt me?
"Mister Potter was informed by the Dursleys, that he had a sister" He grumbled as he crossed his arms.
"So, he does know about me?" I asked curiously. If the Dursleys had told Harry about me, then talking to him maybe easier than I thought. However, it all depends on what they actually told him.
"Obviously" He drawled and rolled his eyes. I narrowed my eyes and sighed.
"Professor I don't know what your problem with the Potter family is but know that if any harm comes to my brother, Professor or not I will not hesitate to hex you" I kept my voice low, and my eyes narrowed. Threatening someone wasn't really in my nature but when it came to family, I made it known that I wasn't to be messed with.
"Get out of my office Miss Potter" Snape growled before turning on his heel and disappearing through a door in the corner of the room.
"Gladly" I muttered before leaving the classroom. I sighed and made my way out of the dungeons not knowing where to go. I ended up at the entrance hall, deciding it would be best to wait for Hannah, that way she could tell me about the match.
"There you are, you missed the game" Cedric jogged up to me, his face painted in the Hufflepuff colours.
"Yeah, Snape wanted to see me" I sighed, pulling my hat from my head "Who won?"
"Gryffindor…Harry almost swallowed the Snitch" He muttered as we began making our way back to the common room. I held back my laugh and felt that pride once again swell.
"He swallowed the snitch? Well, I guess that's one way of catching it" I chuckled at the thought.
"So, what did Snape want?" Cedric untangled his scarf and ran a hand through his messy brown hair. I raised an eyebrow at him. I hadn't realised that we were talking properly again.
"Nothing really, hew was just being his usual moody self" I glanced around before catching Fred's eye. He nodded his head towards Harry, and I frowned. Fred made the gesture again, making me realise that he was giving me a way out of the current conversation. 'Thankyou' I mimed and watched as a heart-warming smile crossed his face.
"You can talk to me you know" Cedric sighed blocking my view of Fred and making me look up at him. I bit my lip to stop my self from biting back at him.
"I know and like I keep telling you, I will when I'm ready" we had this conversation at least a few times a week and it was beginning to really grate on my nerves. I liked Cedric don't get me wrong, but after the last few months I was beginning to see that we didn't have anything in common and that maybe George was right.
"I just get this feeling that you're hiding something from me" He made to put a hand on my shoulder, which I made to move away from, making him frown. He made the move to place his hand on my shoulder again.
"Do we really have to do this now, you know my secret Cedric" I raised my eyes to his, green meeting grey. I could feel my anger getting the better of me and I knew that I needed to find an escape quickly.
"There's something else" The grip on my shoulder tightened. At that moment Harry walked past us chatting away to Ron, giving me the escape, I needed.
"Harry Hey" I smiled, hoping that he would acknowledge me. He turned to me, raising an eyebrow, another Potter trait. Ron made to speak to me before laying eyes on Cedric, quickly making the decision to not say anything. He looked back at me concern crossing his face, before telling Harry he would meet him back at the common room.
"Hey…um Michelle, right?" Harry replied timidly. Now was my chance to speak to him, would it lead to me telling him who I was? I had no idea, but I would take that opportunity if it arose.
"Yeah…do you mind if we talk, I have something to tell you" I tucked some hair behind my ear and watched as Cedric wandered off in a huff. I internally sighed in relief.
"Um okay" Harry seemed nervous, and it was completely understandable as I felt the same way. The last time we were around each other, I was 3 and Harry had not long since turned 1, then we lost our parents.
"Walk with me?" He nodded and began making his way towards the main entrance. I locked eyes with Fred before I followed him and saw the smile of encouragement that crossed his face. I smiled back and turned to follow Harry. We walked for a bit chatting about the game and I couldn't help but smile at how animated he got when talking about Quidditch. I felt bad in some respects, Harry didn't receive the same upbringing as I did, so seeing him talk about Quidditch or anything magical made me feel bad for not being there for him.
"Congratulations on the win, I hear it was a spectacular catch" I smiled as we made our way into the clocktower courtyard. This was one of my favourite places to be, it was open air and peaceful.
"I can hardly call swallowing the snitch spectacular" Harry laughed running a hand through his messy jet-black hair.
"Well, it's never been done before" I chuckled watching as the eyes that matched my own lit up as we spoke.
"Do you play Quidditch?" He asked curiously.
"Yes, I'm the Hufflepuff seeker, so you'll be playing against me in the next match" I smiled as he bounced from one foot to the other excitedly.
"I look forward to it, so what did you want to talk about?" He took a seat on a nearby bench, and I let out a shaky breath before sitting across from him. This was the part that I was most nervous for, would it go smoothly?
"Actually, I wanted to ask you something" I clenched my hands "Snape told me that the Dursleys told you about your sister."
"They told me she died in a car crash along with my parents and that I got dumped with them" He looked down at his hands, picking a piece of fluff off his Quidditch robes. I gulped and tried to think of a way to break the news to him gently.
"What if I told you she didn't?" I asked waiting in anticipation of his reaction. It took a few moments before his head shot up, his forest green eyes searching mine to see if I was joking.
"She's alive?" His voice broke.
"She is" I replied with a small smile. I never knew so many emotions could cross a face in a matter of seconds.
"Do you know her? Does she go to Hogwarts? What's she like? Why hasn't she spoken to me?" the words fell out Harry's mouth like an avalanche.
"Whoa, Harry slow down, one question at a time" I chuckled motioning for him to calm down.
"I'm sorry…I just…my sister's alive?" He stuttered, then whispered the last part to himself "What can you tell me about her?" I took deep breath, my heart pounding in my ears almost deafening me. I was extremely nervous about what his reaction would be.
"Well, she's a third year Hufflepuff, shy but very loyal and protective" I described myself using Fred and George's words "And…um…Harry…She's Me" I uttered the last words quickly, my eyes staying locked to Harry's face as I finally told him what had been eating away at me since the beginning of the year.
I do like a good Cliffhanger...soo what will happen next? How will Harry react? What will happen between the Potter siblings...please read and review :)
