Angel's POV
My brother put the truck in park as we pulled up next to everybody else. Once that was done he turned it off and groaned, rubbing his eyes with his pointer finger and thumb.
"I do not miss this shit at all," he groaned. I scoffed.
"At least you're a senior, imagine how I feel. I got three more years of this fucking bullshit" I explained. Rick laughed as he lowered his hand.
"You're forgetting about college," he said. I guess he was right, most people act as though work itself is done after high school, but this was supposed to be the easy part, even if we were learning impossible dumb shit that we would never use in our lives.
"At least college is useful," I said. Rick laughed and opened his door.
"Yeah, at least that. Come on, I'm sure the others are waiting, '' he replied. I smiled and opened the passenger door. I then hopped down and shut it, hearing the beep of the truck telling Rick that he locked it. I walked in between it as well as Kate's car until we were behind it where the others stood. Shaky came to greet me while the others offered they're usual hi's. Lilly of course gave me our usual hug that I had come to love.
"We were beginning to think you two were gonna be late" Lilly smiled as she broke the hug and stood next to her sister. Humphrey now stood with Kate, no one else to his side.
"I wish, were almost never late," I replied. Kate sighed.
"Yeah, even a couple minutes of extra sleep are always appreciated. I don't think I'll ever get used to waking up this early" she said. I wanted to say to her what I said to Rick in the truck but decided against it, no point in repeating myself while he was here.
"I'll tell ya what though, I totally didn't piss while I was at the house" I said.
"Why not? I wasn't rushing you" Rick said, giving me a confused stare.
"I just didn't have to go, but now I feel it just building up," I said.
"Don't worry too much, they'll open the doors in a few minutes and you'll be fine" Humphrey told me. I nodded.
"I kind of felt like it was easy to wake up this morning, if anything it was impossible for me to fall asleep, I felt so cold" Shaky chimed in, hugging himself as he explained.
"Because you were alone?" Kate asked.
"Probably" he answered, he then looked over to me causing me to smile.
"Yeah, I experienced something similar last night" Kate replied, glancing at my brother who had his hands dug in his pockets for warmth against the freezing morning air.
"I missed ya, but I was really tired as well, only thing keeping me up was the thought of seeing you all" Rick said. Humphrey then looked around.
"Speaking of which, where is Salty?" he asked.
"He takes the bus doesn't he?" Shaky asked back.
"Yeah, so he won't be able to talk to us until they let him off," Lilly answered. I groaned as I leaned forward a bit, hanging on to Kate's car and accidentally grabbing the attention of the group.
"You alright Angel?" Rick asked.
"I have to piss so bad," I whined. Just then the bell rang, causing them to turn their heads to the building.
"I guess that's your cue," Kate smiled. I took a deep breath.
"Okay, see you guys later," I said.
"Alright, I love you," Shaky said.
"Love you too" I replied, I then ran over to the building. I could hear the others begin to conversate as I left, sorry to leave them so soon. I cut across the grass and over to the door as everyone was let off the buses. Luckily I managed to make it without getting caught in the crowd. One of the teachers held the door and said a quick no running before I turned back briefly to yell a quick apology. I ended up making it to the bathroom though. Normally I put some toilet paper on the toilet seat, but I was really feeling the burn. I just sat, brushed my tail to the side so that it didn't fall in the toilet, and took what felt like the best piss ever. I looked up and exhaled as I relieved myself, and wiped once I was done. I then felt a bit disgusted. Normally I try everything in my power to not use the bathroom in public, but when I have to go I do. I shook my head and went to stand up but heard the door open and close as the hustle and bustle of the now full hallway cut in as it opened. That wouldn't have made me nervous but it was the click of the lock that did. I immediately thought of Garth when I heard it and felt my heart start to race. I didn't have my knife on me as I don't normally bring it to school, so I had to just face whoever was out there. I heard footsteps walk over to the sink and stay there, suddenly the water started running and I thought maybe it was just a really shy girl or something. In other words I was in denial. I buckled my belt and grabbed the stall lock and swiftly slid it to the left, and pushed open the door. I stepped out and to my surprise and relief, it wasn't Garth, just a girl I had never seen before. She had brown fur, and hair with green eyes. She seemed to be fixing herself in the mirror so I breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe she just didn't want to be seen. I walked over to the sink and began washing my hands. "Morning" I greeted her. She glanced over for a second and stared.
"Hey" she replied. I didn't say anything after, I felt a greeting was enough. I turned off the sink and went to leave but stopped, laughing to myself.
"This is a stupid question but… did you lock the door?" I asked, thinking maybe I was just hearing things. Again she stopped to look at me, I could feel the awkwardness building and contemplated saying nevermind and just leaving. But before I could give it another thought the girl laughed. I felt my face give a confused stare and a slight head tilt as I watched her laugh. Maybe she really was shy. But no, her face in a quick second turned angry as she punched me right in the face, catching me off guard and knocking me to the ground. I grabbed my nose in pain as she threw her book bag off and came over to me. I went to block her next attack but was too slow as she punched me again, then again, then again. I yelped out each time. Once she finally stopped I couldn't stop panting. "What the fuck?" I said.
"Yeah, it sucks getting attacked randomly in the bathroom, doesn't it?" the girl said angrily. Again I thought of Garth and slid back against the wall, trying to get away from my attacker.
"W-what?" I replied. She then kicked me in the face, making me yelp again.
"My cousin, stop fucking with my cousin!" she yelled. I spit blood on the floor and continued to pant.
"Your… Garth's cousin?" I panted. I didn't even know he had one.
"Yeah, you probably didn't even know of me because you don't know Garth well, but you still have the nerve to attack him, lie about him, get him suspended. He is one click away from getting kicked off the football team and that's his life, and you and your pissant brother are the reason, so if he gets kicked off I am coming after both of you, do you hear me?" she ranted, lifting my head up and getting in my face,
"You're cousin… st-stabbed my br-brother, and he a-almost d-died, your defending that? I-I just wanted to protect my f-f-family" I shook. The girl smirked.
"Yeah… family comes first doesn't it?" she asked. I just looked into her eyes in amazement. How could someone be so fucking dumb? I wanted to hit her back but found I had no energy. Of course this bitch wouldn't one on one me, instead she had to surprise me. But I guess I had no room to talk given how I handled Garth. I guess she got tired of looking at me though because she then slammed my head against the wall, knocking me unconscious.
Kate's POV
"Alright guys, see you at lunch?" I asked the group before I split off with Rick. The others accepted the simple plan but Salty had a question.
"Wait guys, there's six of us now," he said.
"And?" Lilly replied, not getting his point.
"There's six seats at a table" Salty added, the others had a look of oh shit on their face until Shaky spoke up.
"We'll just grab one of the chairs from the back of the cafeteria, no worries," he said. Salty nodded and patted his shoulder.
"Sounds like a plan bro" he said, he then went off to class.
"Bye" I waved, taking Rick's hand and walking away. Shaky ended up walking with Humphrey and Lilly, leaving both me and Rick alone. We walked in the hall to my class as we started talking.
"So, what are you doing after school?" Rick asked. I laughed as I thought of an answer, but instead went with a question.
"Why do you wanna take me out on a date?" I asked. Rick laughed and looked away for a moment.
"Maybe, I mean I still have the gift card I could use" he said. I laughed in response. I was about to give an actual one until a building crowded got my attention.
"What's going on there?" I asked, looking towards where the bathroom was for this hallway. I guess someone heard me ask that because they answered me.
"Oh some girl got fucked up in there, it must be a mess" they said. At first I laughed at it, thinking that it was just another fight but then I remembered that Angel had gone to the bathroom. I didn't know if it was this one though.
"Kate you don't think…: Rick started. By now the smile had left my face and I swiftly looked over at Rick who now looked worried for his sister. He then walked over to the crowd who was almost blocking the door. I sped up to follow him, he ended up grabbing someone's attention to ask them what happened.
"Hey bro, watch it" someone said. Rick didn't mind that though.
"What happened, do you know?" he asked worriedly.
"Garth's cousin, fucked up some freshmen. I mean really fucked her up" he answered. Rick simply looked scared, as if he feared for the worst. "Why do you look so worried about it, it's just a fight," the person added. I felt myself grow worried now as well.
"That's my sister," Rick said, pushing his way past him. I followed him into the bathroom where a teacher held her hand out to Rick, blocking him from going inside. I could see past her though. In the back of the bathroom, Angel sat on the floor, blood covering her face. A teacher was also down on her level, trying to wake her up as another teacher stood next to him.
"Get to class, you have no business being here" the teacher snapped at Rick. Rick quickly grew furious whether it was from her tone or the fact that she practically pushed him away physically.
"That is my Goddamn sister" he shouted. The teacher looked as though she didn't know what to say after that, either way the waste of time was getting to him so he pushed his way past her and over to Angel. I followed quickly and ran over to him. The one guy trying to wake Angel up turned around.
"Hey get out of here, you shouldn't be here" he yelled. Rick ignored him and ran to his sister, grabbing her cheeks and lifting her head.
"Angel, wake up, can you hear me? It's Rick, come on Angel wake up" he begged. By now both teachers had stepped back a bit, the one turning to me.
"You two cant be here," he repeated. I kept my eyes on the siblings.
"That's his sister," I said. I then turned around and turned the sink on, catching some cold water in my hand before turning around and walking back over to them. I placed my hand on Rick's shoulder to gently move him out of the way. I splashed the water onto Angel in hopes of waking her up and luckily it worked. "Angel? Are you okay?" I asked. Angel slowly opened her eyes and looked up at us.
"Guys," she said weakly. It infuriated me. How dare someone lay they're disgusting hands on her. Rick began talking to her, I didn't hear what he was saying though, I was too caught up in my own thoughts and emotions. I stood up and walked right out of the bathroom. At the doorway the one teacher was still shooing kids away, telling them to get to class. I brushed past her and luckily found that kid again who said that Garth's cousin had done this. Of course that fucker has a cousin, and of course she's just stupid enough to be on his side. I walked over to the guy and grabbed his attention.
"Where the hell is she, do you know?" I asked.
"Pssh, she left, you can probably catch her outside if you're quick enough" he answered. I didn't thank him, I wasn't in the right mind to thank him, I had other things to worry about. I ran past him and back over to the front door. Finally I made it back outside to get hit with the cold morning air again. I looked around and sure enough there was some girl walking away from the building.
"Hey!" I called out, running over to her. As I ran across the way I called out again, this time she turned around to meet my gaze.
"Oh shit, what do you want?" she asked, sounding annoyed.
"Are you Garth's cousin?" I asked angrily, stopping in front of her.
"Yeah, and your the dumb bitch that he drools over, it's Kate right?" she smirked. I clenched my fist in anger as I tried to calm myself.
"Yeah, it's Kate. Who are you?" I asked again through half gritted teeth. She scoffed.
"Mindy, is that all? Are we done here?" she asked impatiently.
"Why are you running away? Are you scared of us? And why did you do what you did?" I growled. Again she scoffed.
"I'm not running away or scared of you twits. I just don't want to get scolded by some loser principal because some idiots saw me leave the bathroom after dealing with that dumb bitch, and I did what I did because I'm tired of you guys picking on my cousin, you're little games with him are all fine and dandy but when you threaten his life and lie on him, get him almost cut from his career, and then think your all bad ass because you bring a weapon to threaten someone and get off scot free, yes I want to step in. you people are fucking idiots" Mindy ranted, but I had a counter.
"Do you know that Garth almost killed my boyfriend?" I asked. Mindy rolled her eyes.
"I'm tired of hearing this fucking sob story, you're boyfriend is fine, he's alive, and you two are doing fine, Garth hasn't bothered you guys since then, so why do you have to bother him?" she asked. I felt myself grow even more angry.
"Have we really bothered him since? All we want is to be left alone, and your family just wont stop. No one asked you to be a part of this, we don't even want to be a part of this, we thought it was over, but you… you just had to go and…" I didn't even finish my sentence, I was too angry to form a proper one. My mind was just so scrambled from the nerve of this stupid bitch.
"Can I go now? Or are you gonna keep nagging me about that little bitch in there?" Mindy asked. There was a moment of silence before I spoke again, nothing but us two staring at each other intensely.
"Let me ask you something, did you confront her or take her by surprise?" I asked, because something told me that there was no way that this idiot didn't have a scratch on her. Angel would have at least got one hit in.
"What does that have to do with anything? She got what she deserved" Mindy said, making me somehow grow even more angry.
"So that's a yes… so who's the real bitch then?" I asked, ready to attack her at any moment. I wanted to paint the sidewalk with her blood, nothing would thrill me more than to beat the ever living shit out of her. She chuckled to herself and then stepped closer to me, she was now about a foot away from me.
"Want to find out?" she smiled.
"It would be the worst fucking day of you're life" I growled. At this point I was saying anything I could to get her to try and hit me, and it worked because she swung at me and I ducked, giving me the chance to upper cut her chin, causing her to look up. I then punched her in the face from her left cheek, knocking her to the ground. You don't fuck with my fucking family, and she was going to learn that. I tossed my bag to the side to get at her, but she kicked my legs, causing me to trip and fall. The back of my head hit the concrete, putting me in a daze that I could not afford. She then crawled over to me to punch me.
"I'll fucking kill you!" she yelled, going for a punch. I managed to snap out of it and catch her fist, pulling it towards me to get her low enough to punch her again. I held her hand where it was so that she couldn't go anywhere as I hit her again and again. She then caught my hand with hers and there we were all out of hands, wobbling to try and free them. Since I was still below her though I got the advantage to once again pull her to me so that I could head but her nose. She yelped and fell back and off of me as we let go of each other. I then did as she did before and crawled quickly over to her to punch her face, she didn't block it though, she was too busy holding her nose. I hit in between her eyes, making her let go to grab my arms to get me to stop, now I could see that her nose was bleeding. It was a thrill to see. She continued holding my arms so I grabbed hold of hers which was easy givin our position, and pulled her up to throw her. She landed on the ground and I ran over to her and instead of getting on her level, remained standing so that I could stomp on her head repeatedly. One, two, three, four times until I went on her level once again to punch her but before I did I saw what I was doing. Now she was out and could not even attempt to fight back. I sat there, holding her by the collar of her shirt panting, still angry, wanting to hit her again but didn't. Instead I let go, causing her to fall on the ground. I then sat on the grass next to her and just… breathed, trying to calm down. It was done, for now anyway. I didn't even want to think of the consequences for what I just did, and I wasn't just thinking about in terms of school, I was thinking of Garth. What he would do when he finds out that I just mutilated his beloved cousin. The dumb bitch was still breathing though. I just sat, arm resting on my knee and my tail curled up around me. I sat for a few minutes, looking around and taking in the cold air as I felt myself grow less angry. I then pulled out my phone and dialed Rick, putting it to my ear. I assumed that by now he and Angel were in the nurse office.
"Hello?" I heard Rick say as he answered.
"Hey Rick… is Angel okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, she told us what happened. I'm probably gonna take her home, where did you go?" Rick asked back. I sighed, looking at Mindy.
"I went to go find Mindy, Garth's cousin" I answered.
"Any luck?" he asked. I continued staring at my work.
"Yeah, I found her. Can I follow you guy's to the house? I don't think I'll be coming back to school for awhile" I said. There was a brief pause while Rick presumably processed what I just said.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"Yeah, but you might want to send a nurse out to the front of the school when you leave. I'll meet you and Angel at the house okay?" I planned, wanting to get as far away from the school as possible.
"Yeah… okay, see you soon," Rick said.
"Alright, I love you" I replied.
"I love you too," he said before hanging up. It was weird how we could just say that after the events that just went down. Neverminded that though, I had to leave before I got pestered by the school nurse. I stood up and brushed myself off. I then walked over to my bag and picked it up, throwing it over my shoulder. Once I went to leave I stopped, noticing that amongst the chaos Mindy had dropped her things as well. I also noticed amongst the things was her wallet. Just as an extra fuck you I took a twenty out and threw the wallet at her, after that I hopped in my car and left. What a shit show, we couldn't even be back for one day without some dumb shit going down. As I drove I dialed my mom who was at work. She didn't answer so I left a voice message.
"Hey mom, it's Kate. I just wanted to say that most likely… I'm gonna get suspended because I got in a fight with this girl that… she beat Angel unconscious, just beat on her in the school bathroom in a way where she couldn't even defend herself. So I confronted her and she went to hit me as well, don't worry I took care of her but if you get a call from the school… you know why now, sorry. I guess I'll hear from you soon, I love you. Bye" I said. Once that was done I hung up and continued my drive to Rick's house where I would get to see Angel, see how she was and unwind. I hoped she was okay. But a part of me was terrified, terrified of the future that awaited us now that Mindy was in the mix. It made perfect sense, when one problem ended, another came right the fuck out of nowhere, when were we gonna get our happy ending? It seemed as though it simply wasn't a possibility for us. That thought once again made me feel angry. It just wasn't fair. I had finally come out of my eternal shell, built something, and here were these fucking losers trying to tear it down. Well they wouldn't, I would do anything in my power to keep us together. We were going to get our happy ending… eventually.
Author's note - I just wanted to type a quick apology for my long absence. It's been almost nine days since I uploaded a chapter and I feel horrible about it. I just have so much work to do, today was my first day off in weeks. Literally if I'm not working one job I'm working another. But please remember that this story will not be abandoned.
