For the past few days leading up to valentine's day, I've felt nothing but excitement. Just thoughts of what was to come on the first valentines day spent with the love of my life. I and the rest of the group messaged each other in the group chat to have fun, and that we would message each other the next day. But as for tonight, nothing else existed except for our lovers. I felt as though I was going to burst out in happiness as I pulled into Kate's driveway. It was three O'clock in the afternoon and I was just now getting to her house. It gave her more time to get ready but that wasn't why I was arriving so late. I had to pick up Kate's present for the occasion, and given how it came out I thought it was perfect.
Once I pulled in I pulled out my phone and messaged Kate that I was at her place. The text was sent and only a few moments later she came out, looking behind her and presumably saying goodbye to her parents. Once the door was shut she locked it and then jogged over to the truck where she climbed inside. Kate shut the door and then turned to me with the smile that I had fallen in love with what felt like not that long ago. I smiled back, not being able to hold my excitement.
"Hey Kate" I greeted her.

What we did in between was anyone's guess but to cap it all off, I had also booked a nice hotel room when we wanted to go take it down a notch.
"The city huh? Please don't tell me you spent too much money" Kate said, probably feeling guilty that I would do so much for her, but it was always more than worth it to see her so happy. I guess Eve was more than right about what she said on Christmas day. You're spoiling her.

"No, it's just… well it might be too early to bring this up, and I know we've talked about it before but… do you think at any point… that you'll want pups?" Kate asked. I turned onto the highway that would take us to the main city and then answered.

"I'm just fine with that, we'll have time to be serious later" Kate said. I already knew what she was hinting towards.

"So we're not counting what happened at the sand plant?" I asked.

"So what time are the reservations?" Kate asked.

Kate took out her phone again and clicked it on, not to use it but to simply look at her screen saver which was the picture we had taken on the Ferris wheel that night. "Maybe" she said. I nodded and started to slow down a bit as traffic was picking up since we were getting closer to the city. It was only a matter of time until we were there.

"It's okay. Not my first choice though. I'm a much bigger fan of the boardwalk" she answered. I nodded and then held out my hand to her. Kate smiled once again before accepting it. Kate picked up the menu and began browsing. I did the same but had to quickly let her know a little something.
"Order whatever you want alright? I'll pay" I said, even though it should have been obvious. Kate's eyes widened before she lowered the menu a bit to whisper.
"Um… Rick, did you look at the prices here before you booked?" she asked. The truth was I knew that my wallet would be bled dry by coming here, but it was all worth it. Today was never supposed to be cheap.

"Why don't I at least split it with you?" she offered. I sighed.
"You know what? Sure. give me your card" I said, holding out my hand. Kate did so and handed it to me after taking it out of her wallet. "I think… I'll go for a crab cake" she said. I nodded and then folded the menu.

"That's the point of the holy water right?" Kate asked.
"That's what makes it possible," I answered. Kate's smile only grew as she immediately put the necklace on.
"Aren't you gonna put yours on?" she asked.
"Well, necklaces aren't really my thing, so I'll just keep it in my pocket," I answered. Kate nodded as she finished putting it on. She then held the locket in the palm of her hand.
"I love it, thank you" she said. I smiled with a chuckle and then looked down at the empty box which was still in front of her.
"You know Kate, I promise you that one day there will be a ring in there" I said. Kate closed the box and moved it out of the way so she could hold my hand again.
