Bella and Edward graduated high school, and over the summer, Bella decided it was time to exert her independence and get her apartment. She didn't go far. A small studio in Port Angeles was perfect. Charlie was extremely glad Edward was staying in Forks. Bella had been a little lonely, though, and one day Edward got an idea. Alice said everything would work out great, but she could see two outcomes, and Edward needed to be prepared.
He made a quick stop for supplies before heading to Port Angeles to see Bella.
"Hey, Beautiful," he said when she opened the front door. He kissed her sweetly. She had missed him so much. It had been two whole days since she had seen him. "I have something planned for us today. Do you trust me?" He asked, his eyes full of mischief.
"That look makes me nervous." Bella laughed. Then he handed her a blindfold.
"You don't have to put this on yet, but I want it to be a surprise."
Bella took the blind fold, and grabbed her purse. "I'm in, I guess!"
They got in the car and headed out towards the south side of town.
"Okay, blind fold time. It won't be long, I promise. I don't want you to get car sick."
Bella gave him a side eye but put on the blindfold. They drove a few more minutes. She felt Edward take a left turn and heard gravel crunch under the tires.
Once parked, Edward helped Bella out of the car. He held her arm firm and walked her toward the building.
"One step up," he said. He opened the door.
"Gross! What is that smell?" Bella winced.
Edward chuckled. "Take off the blindfold."
Bella opened her eyes and read out loud. "Port Angeles Animal Shelter." It took a moment then she tossed her arms around Edward.
"I thought you could use a companion. The question is a dog or cat?"
"Can we look at both?" She could hardly contain her excitement.
Bella settled on a little gray tabby cat with soft green eyes. "Let's call him Masen." She held the kitten close to her chest, "Is that okay with you?"
"You can name him anything you want sweetheart." Edward smiled at her.
"I wasn't asking you!" She giggled.
After signing all the paperwork, they walked back out to the car. Bella started to make a list of all the things Masen would need. "We need to stop by the pet store."
"No we don't!" Edwards said with pride in his voice as he popped the trunk. "Alice said it could go either way, so I got kitten and puppy supplies."
Bella gasped at his full trunk. He had bowls, food, litter, a pet taxi, collars for both a cat or dog, and a leash. Tears welled up in her eyes.
Edward put his arm around her and kissed the top of her head. "Let's get little Masen all settled in."
