This is based on a true story ;)

"If you had to pick your very favorite meal. What would it be?" Bella asked.

"Hmm." Edward thought about this carefully. He knew Bella was a good cook and took advantage of the opportunity. He lived on fast food and frozen pizza, and the thought of a home-cooked meal made his mouth water. "Well, my mom used to make meatloaf and mashed potatoes for my birthday. I don't think I have had meatloaf since I moved to Forks."

Bella regretted this question. She hated meatloaf. She thought she knew the answer to this question before she asked, but this surprised her. "Great, why don't you come over tonight, and I will make meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Does cherry pie sound good for dessert?"

"Awesome, what time should I come by?"

"Would six be okay?"

"Yes, I will see you then."

Bella got off the phone, grabbed her car keys, and headed to the store. She had never made a meatloaf in her life.

Bella put on her apron and started on the pie, which she knew would be good. She peeled and chopped and stared at the pound of hamburger on the counter. It was mocking her. How hard can this really be? She thought I am psyching myself up. It's meatloaf. She grabbed the meat, put it in a bowl with minced onion and garlic, a pinch or two of salt and pepper, and plopped it into the loaf pan. She then smeared some ketchup on the top and tossed it into the oven, trying not to gag. Of all the things I can make, he picks meatloaf.

Edward showed up to her apartment promptly at six. "Oh, Bella, it smells amazing." He said as he came into the kitchen.

"Thanks, I need to mash the potatoes, and we will be ready to eat." She prepared the potatoes and brought them with the meatloaf and green beans to the table.

She cut into the meatloaf and passed it to Edward. He put two huge pieces on his plate, along with a big scoop of potatoes and a tiny spoonful of green beans.

"I hope everything is okay. I have to tell you I haven't ever made meatloaf before." Bella said, scooting it around her plate.

"I am sure it will be great!" Edward took a big bite. "MMM," He said, chewing. Bella was trying to read his face. Something was wrong. Bella took a small taste. It was so salty it burned and very dry. She thought she might choke. She looked across the table at Edward. He was chugging water.

"It's… great!" He said, trying to swallow the hard lump of meatloaf stuck in his throat.

Bella appreciated the lie, but this was inedible. "You don't have to eat it."

"Bella, It's fine." Bella would have sworn she saw tears of pain in his eyes.

"No, it's awful! I will clean this up if you will order a pizza?" Bella laughed.

"It would be my pleasure!" Edward laughed as got up and gave her a hug and a kiss.
