Disclaimer: I don't own either of these characters. The Fake Reaper is owned by Matsui Yusei while John Bertrand is owned by Crusherboy93.
Azure: Hello everybody! This is the next chapter of What If Battles! But before we begin with the chapter, I have some things to say.
Azure: First, the slowed down updates. I usually make several updates a week, but as you can probably notice, they've been slowed down. I'll be posting the same message for all my next updates, since not everybody reads every fic. Basically, I'm rather busy. I'm in college, which just started up. Not only that, but my grandma is staying over. And since I'm one of her favorite grandkids, I'm usually helping her out with back and foot pains, as well as helping with a few physical activities, as her spine is giving her some problems.
Azure: Second. Matchups. You're still free to leave requests. But I'll also be doing some that I want to do, it won't always be requested battles. I'm also going to try to stay away from some matchups that Death Battle already did. That doesn't mean I won't do some of them, but the ones I do will have certain spins to them.
Azure: Finally, the actual contestants. No amalgamations, unless I choose so. Take Link. I won't be combining feats, abilities, and weapons from all the games, as some are parts of different timelines, and some Links can be considered to be different kinds of characters completely. Instead, I'll be taking one Link and analyzing all the games associated with that Link. Take the Hero of Time Link. I'll be analyzing him with sources from Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. I won't say that he can do the same things as, say, Toon Link, as that is a different timeline. I also won't be scaling Link to other Links unless it's actually plausible. The same goes with the likes of Leo the Ninja Turtle, the three movie Spidermen, or the different Ben 10,000s. With that being said, back to the actual chapter.
-Line Break-
Bryant: Today, we have two powerful assassins. Both of whom possess the abilities granted to them by Kotaro Yanagisawa. The difference, one uses them for good, the other uses them for bad.
Thea: The Reaper, first protege of Korosensei.
Bryant: And John Bertrand, the multi-talented American co-leader of the Hunter Classroom.
John: That's kind of a mouthful, don't you think?
Bryant: What the- where did you come from?!
John: What? You read the Hunter Classroom. You know I can break the fourth wall.
Thea: Well we're definitely not covering Deadpool.
Bryant: We might cover Isogai though, and he can break the fourth wall.
John and Thea: Wait, what?
Bryant: Yeah. In the episode Ritsu is introduced, Isogai breaks the fourth wall while scolding Takebayashi.
John: Oh, I'm definitely roping him into our shenanigans.
Bryant: I'm Bryant Reese.
Thea: and I'm Thea Price.
Bryant: And we're here to analyse these two fighters and find out who would win, a WI Battle!
-Line Break-
John Bertrand:
Bryant: Nagisa Shiota was a definitive member of Assassintion Classroom, borderlining mascot of it. One day, after graduating high school, Nagisa received a message. It was an invitation from Karma Akabane, inviting him to the old campus. When he got there, the entire Classroom was there. However, one of them brought someone else.
Thea: John-
John: John Bertrand! The rugged, handsome, soon to be co-leader of the Hunter Classroom.
Thea: ...Really?
John: What? It should be expected. If I can break the fourth wall, I will. I have to hold back in actual stories so it doesn't make it cringy, but here, I can let loose.
Bryant: Don't go overboard. Otherwise I'll be petitioning for you to fight the Mask.
John: ...I'll behave.
Bryant: Good. Anyways, let's get onto the background. Starting off, John is the son of a rich American. After applying to a foreign exchange program, he was transported to Japan, where he met a certain assassin. Toka Yada. After the two met, they eventually fell for each other, and when Toka was invited to join the bounty hunting group that was the old Assassination Classroom, John came along.
John: I was a pretty good addition to the team. I have connections and resources. Essential for all organizations. I usually use a pistol of any kind. I'm not picky. I've also used a bunch of different knives, even an anti-sensei knife.
Bryant: Yep. John is a skilled fighter. He's skilled with a knife and gun, focusing on both long ranged and close ranged combat. He's even capable of keeping up with the likes of Nagisa, who's a skilled swordsman and considered to be one of the best members in terms of skill. And thanks to his natural ability to lead and fighting capabilities, John was promoted to co-leader alongside Isogai, Kataoka, Nagisa, and Karma.
Thea: A little quickly when I think about it, but John has proven himself worthy to stand alongside them. He's easily one of the Hunter Classroom's best. Skilled, loyal. And that's even without his secret weapons.
John: Rock and Creed! Yeah, I was a subject for experimenting. The American government wanted something similar to Itona as a failsafe, so I got these two SOBs, who eventually became sentient. These guys can rip up a cement wall, throw people around, and even catch people after explosions! They also gave me a pretty good body to fight with.
Bryant: John possesses immense amounts of strength, speed, and durability. He has enhanced senses, and has an impressive healing factor. He can even fly into space.
Thea: But that ain't all he got. He's got the same powers as Korosensei, which means he can fire massive beams of energy, just like the Kamehameha! Man, I wish I can do that. He even dissolved the bastich Kotaro Yanagisawa in an alternate universe with it! Hey douchebag! Do you not feel so good?!
Bryant: It's important to note that this beam is that of antimatter. A single pound of antimatter is equal in power to a 19 megaton bomb. Now, obviously, John can't produce this much power on his own, but! Considering the beam was able to dissolve Yanagisawa in his entirety, this beam should be around five feet wide, as he isn't exactly perpendicular to the beam. This means that the beam should have an area of about 20 feet. The energy that the beam is outputting should be at minimum, equal to over 550 tons of force. Though considering that it was able to completely disintegrate Yanagisawa, it's likely that it's much, much more.
(You guys have no idea how long and frustrating it was to figure that out. I was searching things all over the internet. I have much more respect to Death Battle, and even if they get things wrong, the fact that they at least try to do this kind of research on a regular basis is worth praise)
John: Wow, really? Didn't know I could do that.
Bryant: Not only that, the beam managed to reach space in just a few seconds. The distance between Earth's surface and the Karman line, the area where the top of that atmosphere meets space, is about 63 miles. For the beam to reach that distance in just a few seconds, it must be moving at speeds equal to 74400 miles per hour. That's almost Mach 97.
Thea: John's done a lot. Not only is he considered to be one of the best in the Hunter Classroom from skill alone, but he's taken down plenty of criminals easily. He even took out an alternate version of Yanagisawa with two meme attacks! The Kamehameha and the 7 Page Muda! Is the exact same as Giorno's? Maybe not, but John did race against an alternate version of himself from another universe. And when he measured his speed, he clocked in at Mach 45! He defeated several versions of Yanagisawa, smashed apart a building, and even took down his dad, who killed his mom. Son of a-
Bryant: Language! He could also keep up with other tentacle users, who had similar powers to John. But even with all this, John can be considered to be a glass cannon. He doesn't possess the malleable body of Korosensei, and he still has a regular, human body.
Thea: John's been knocked out by a random delinquent, drugged, and has a habit of avoiding using his tentacles, though he does have a good reason for that.
Bryant: He also can be killed via opponents with greater levels of power than himself, or a special serum that caused his tentacles to self-destruct. Which is how he died.
Thea: But don't worry, yet another Yanagisawa from another universe managed to upload the dead John's mind into a cloned body, so that he'll still live on, but in a different body. Yeah, it's weird, but cool!
John: Thank you.
Thea: You're welcome. John has done a lot, and he's definitely proven himself capable of taking on a lot of dangerous beings. Even after getting married and having a kid, travelling to other universes, and retiring for about ten years, he's still standing tall and going strong. And when the Hunter Classroom came back together, he was more than ready to jump back into the field of battle.
Bryant: At the end of the day, one can't help but respect the superhuman bounty hunter.
John: Okay you see that? That, is a good title.
(John) He'll get the justice he deserves, but through a court, not a vengeful son.
-Line Break-
The Fake Reaper:
Bryant: Korosensei is a skilled assassin and teacher. One that many, many people wished was their teacher. But while the likes of Nagisa, Karma and Kayano could be considered his legacy, there was one other.
Thea: The Fake Reaper. At least, that's what everyone calls him. I'll call him Charlie. Charlie the Faceless.
Bryant: Sure, you do that. The Reaper was once a normal child. He lived with a rich family, with a douchebag of a dad.
Thea: Like a lot of characters. But there was something wrong with this kid. When Korosensei, who was the original Reaper, killed his dad, Charlie here wasn't traumatized, or even a little scared.
Bryant: Instead, he was amazed. Inspired. He saw someone killing his father, and thought of the beauty of his skill. And so, he chased after the Reaper, eventually catching up to him and begging him to take him in as his apprentice.
Thea: Hm. Seems like something my Youtube counterpart Boomstick would do. Is it?
John: I don't know. Is it something that you would do?
Thea: Well, I don't have an absent dad. My parents live in the woods about a dozen miles from my cave.
John: You live in a cave?
Thea: It's nicer than it sounds.
Bryant: Anyway, the Fake Reaper was an excellent student. For the next couple of years, all the way until he was an adult, he learned from Korosensei the ways of assassination. However, frustrated that his teacher seemed to ignore all that made him, well, him, he plotted to betray his teacher. Leaving him for the authorities, he stole his teacher's identity as the Reaper.
Thea: And when he heard about a ten billion yen bounty, that's a little under 95 million dollars by the way, slapped on his old teacher's now giant yellow Pac-man head, he definitely couldn't wait to prove himself the superior. So, naturally, he decided to kidnap Class 3-E and hold them hostage underground to drown them, and, Koro, Sensei⦠huh. That's a little dark considering that this is a show about a cheerful octopus that used to be an assassin with over a thousand bodies, teaching a bunch of depressed teenagers, who, tend to, uh, be suffering things like depression.
Bryant: I guess the beauty of Assassination Classroom is the darkness under the colors.
Thea: Well, it's hard to take on the Assassination Classroom, so this guy is a pretty big badass.
John: Duh. The AssClass got members like Nagisa, Karma, Chiba, Itona and of course!
Thea: The hyper-advanced A.I Ritsu?
John: ...well yeah, but I was going to say my wife Toka.
Bryant: Moving on, after challenging and losing to Tadaomi Karasuma in one on one combat, the Reaper was taken in and arrested. But this only resulted in him becoming even more deadly.
Thea: He was already capable of targeting Korosensei's tentacles moving at Mach 2 and keeping up with Karasuma in close quarters. Karasuma is a member of the Japanese Ministry of Defense, and is easily one of the best fighters in the entire show! And the two were throwing hands pretty well with each other. Not only that, but he also had some neat techniques, like the infamous Stun Clap, and even a technique where he can hide in plain sight.
Bryant: But after being arrested, he was released into the custody of Kotaro Yanagisawa. A mad scientist who experimented on the Reaper, granting him access to an antimatter serum. This greatly changed his body and abilities, giving him an intimidating, monstrous look, with tentacles replacing all his limbs and growing all over his body.
Thea: It also gave him the power of Korosensei, with a little more. First, Korosensei could only move at Mach 20. The Reaper can move at Mach 40. On top of that, he has enhanced strength, rapid healing, and energy beams. A pretty cool arsenal.
John: If it weren't for the tentacles he'd be a typical DBZ character.
Thea: You're not that different you know.
John: Shut up.
Bryant: The Reaper's powerful enough to beat the crap out of Korosensei, can fly at unimaginable speed, and his beams are extremely powerful. By comparing the size of the beam to Korosensei, the beam should have a destructive yield of about 600 tons of force.
(Pain in the butt to calculate, and I was never good at science. I'm not going to analyze power based purely on beam size from now on.)
Thea: The Reaper does have the same weakness as Korosensei though, so anti-sensei knives and bullets will kill him. And when he was in his monster form, he only had around forty minutes to live, even without the threat of the fancy satellite.
Bryant: Not to mention, even though he was made to be superior to Korosensei, he still lost. Still, this doesn't change the fact that the Reaper is actually superior to Korosensei in terms of power. He was able to completely overwhelm Korosensei, with Korosensei's own skill being the only thing keeping him alive for a bit. While the earlier measurement of his energy blast can be considered bull, Korosensei was able to blast a hole to escape Kayano. By measuring how long he fell, not including the fact that Kayano was also knocking him down, Korosensei would've had to blast through about 787 ft of dirt. That's over 58 kilotons of weight.
Thea: Does dirt really weigh that much?!
John: *checks internet and calculator* well holy sh*t. It does.
Bryant: For Korosensei to be able to break through that much, he must've blasted the wall with about 4,700 tons of force.
Thea: Even without the tentacle boosts, he was able to take out many of the students in just seconds, moving around and knocking them out before the paralyzed Nagisa could even pass out. And with his tentacles, it took everything that Korosensei had, and an anti-teacher knife to the heart to take him out.
Bryant: But in the end, the Reaper did manage to achieve his goal. In the end, he finally was acknowledged by his teacher, finally recognized for his power, skill, and abilities.
Thea: This is one cheesy ending.
Azure: Gimme a break, I wrote this part instead of sleeping.
(The Reaper) I have been beside you from the moment you were born. Fear not the name "death"
-Line Break-
Bryant: Alright, the stage is set, time to start this dance.
Thea: Battle ready, set, GO!
-Line Break-
The Reaper roared at the gathering of children in front of him. Korosensei was breathing heavily. His constant protecting of his students left her battered, and hurt. Kayano, Nagisa, and Karma were standing in front of him, ignoring his pleas for them to get behind him. They took their stances, each holding their own knives.
"Aw, how cute. They think that they can stop my vengeance? Ridiculous." Yanagisawa glowered at the side. "2.0, KILL THEM!"
"Let's not." a new voice said. They turned as a new figure entered the stage. John grinned at them.
"Who are you? Actually, I don't care. 2.0, get rid of this worm." Yanagisawa said with a wave of his hand. He turned to the class. "Meanwhile, it's punishment time."
"Yeah." John appeared behind Yanagisawa, surprising everyone. "For you." was all he said before Rock and Creed grabbed him and threw him screaming towards the anti-sensei shield. With a boom, his screams were abruptly cut off. John turned to The Reaper.
"As for you. Shall we begin?"
Let you bloodlust run free!
Fight!
The Reaper roared as he flew forward, John charging right back. They slammed into each other, before disappearing. Shockwaves rang out all over as the students carried their sensei inside. Nagisa poked his head out to watch the fight. John and the Reaper appeared, slamming a knee into each other before attacking with their tentacles, whipping and blocking each other's attacks before leaping back. John's tentacles impaled the ground, ripping out a large chunk and hurling it towards the Reaper. The Reaper roared as he smashed it to bits with his tentacles. John flew forward and punched the Reaper, sending him flying. The Reaper slammed onto the ground, sending a cloud of dust flying. John landed and ran forward. He jumped and landed another kick, sending the Reaper through a tree.
"What's the matter? Can't keep up?" John taunted as he ran forward and punched the Reaper rapidly, sending him flying with another uppercut. He grabbed the assassin with his tentacles and slammed him down. The Reaper whipped John's legs out from under him, slamming into the smaller tentacle user with his shoulder before juggling John in the air, dashing around and knocking him around. He appeared above John and slammed him down with his arms. John grunted as he flipped and used Rock and Creed to catch himself. John looked up and jumped back as the Reaper came crashing down where he was. The Reaper tried to impale John, but his tentacles were knocked away as John rushed around before knocking away the Reaper with a kick. John brought his hands and tentacles together, allowing a ball of light to gather.
"Can't really afford to let this drag on." John said to himself. He held his hands forward and fired. The Reaper roared as he fired back his own attack. John's eyes widened as the Reaper's beam tore through his own. He quickly dodged, ducking under the beam, letting it tear through the trees behind him. John ran forward, slamming another energy beam into the Reaper's chest, sending him flying. The Reaper got up and fired back, John taking to the skies to dodge. The Reaper gave chase, blasting another beam after John. John swerved to dodge and fired back.
"Come on, let's go!" John challenged. They slammed into each other again, with the Reaper attacking with his tentacles again. John used both his hands and his tentacles to parry the attacks, attacking with his own tentacles and energy beams. The Reaper parried his attacks and rushed forward, slamming into John and sending him towards the barrier. John managed to stop himself by grabbing the trees below. He looked up and hurled himself at the Reaper, the two constantly slamming into each other and being pushed back. John was overpowered and flew back, firing his beam. The Reaper zipped around it.
The two zipped around within the anti-sensei barrier, firing at each other with their own beams, dodging the other's attacks. John dropped down to the forest below. The Reaper roared as he blasted the forest with more and more energy blasts. Within the trees, John weaved through the trees, using them as cover. He glanced up and fired back his own beams knocking the Reaper out of the air. The Reaper recovered and fired back again. John dodged with the trees and blasted another ball of energy. The Reaper was ready this time, and used a smaller blast to block it. John burst through the smoke and punched the Reaper again. The Reaper attacked with his tentacles again. John bobbed and weaved through the tentacles, firing back with his beams again. The Reaper grunted as he was hit and sent back. The Reaper fired another beam back, with John dodging around and slamming into him. The Reaper grabbed John and threw him towards the ground. John groaned as he got up.
"That hurt." he grunted. He looked up as the Reaper landed. They charged up their beams again and fired them at each other. Rock and Creed went to the side, picking up a tree trunk and slamming it into the Reaper. John threw himself forward and slammed another punch into the Reaper's gut, making him cough. John reared back and threw a barrage of punches before sending him flying with an uppercut. He gathered the energy into his hands again, charging up another beam.
"This time, no holding back!" He yelled. He held his hands forward and fired a massive beam of energy. The Reaper roared back as he fired his own beam. The two collided, pushing against each other. The Reaper poured as much as he could into the beam. John gritted his teeth as the beams were pushed back towards him. He yelled as he put even more energy, pushing the beams back. The two attacks enveloped the Reaper. He roared as the beam consumed him, eventually dissolving him. John panted in exhaustion as he sat down. He turned to the stunned class in the campus building with a tired grin.
"Hey there."
KO!
Thea: Woah, seriously? I thought for sure that the Reaper would win.
Bryant: At first glance, this would be the case. But believe it or not, the advantages that the Reaper would've had, were actually the ones John had.
Thea: John's had his tentacles for over a decade, where-as the Reaper only had them for less than a year. This means that John has way better experience. Not to mention, the skill advantage, actually goes to John too, surprisingly.
Bryant: The Reaper was on par with Karasuma, and Nagisa from the Life of Hunters was superior to Karasuma. And while John was inferior to Nagisa, he was still capable of putting up a fight. But the difference in skill is very small, so it can be argued that it wouldn't matter. Which means that the answer lies somewhere else.
Thea: John may have better experience with his tentacles, but the Reaper was trained by Korosensei, and has been doing this for way longer. And while Rock and Creed are definitely tough, they didn't stand a chance against the Reaper. Plus, while John is definitely faster than the Reaper, Korosensei was able to keep up when his speed was only half of that of the Reaper! Shouldn't he have won?
Bryant: All this does make this the closest fight we ever had, and probably one of the closest we'll ever have. But while the Reaper could've been able to do this when he was in his human form, he was not. He was in his Monster form, in which he's basically a mindless beast, controlled by his tentacle's wild urges and Yanagisawa. John and his tentacles, on the other hand, are partners, and they have a mutual trust, relying on each other's abilities to make up for their weaknesses. This means John can think and adapt more creatively than the Reaper. This is important since it took holding the class of 3-E for the Reaper to hit Korosensei after he adapted to his attacks.
Thea: But the real nail in the Reaper's coffin wasn't skill or experience, it was raw power.
Bryant: Based purely on the beam's size, it would appear that the Reaper's would be more powerful. But then we looked at them in another, more reliable way. We based their power on their actual feats. The Reaper's beams can be comparable to Korosensei, and are probably twice as powerful, if the difference in speed is a proper hint. This means that the Reaper's beam can come out at at least 9.4 kilotons of force.
Thea: That's 17 times more powerful than our initial estimate for John's beam. But then we considered the fact that John's attack completely erased Yanagisawa. To erase a person's body like that needs 3 gigajoules of energy. How much is that in tons? Oh, not that much, just a little under 340 kilotons!
Bryant: Granted, Yanagisawa's body was already decaying from an antimatter serum. But even one tenth of that is more than triple of what the Reaper can be compared to. And keep in mind, while Korosensei was able to dodge the beams despite only being able to move at Mach 20, John's beam was able to move at more than four times that speed, a speed that the Reaper has no proof he can move faster than. He might be able to dodge it for a bit, but he won't be able to dodge it forever.
Thea: The Reaper wasn't completely outclassed though. His precision and John's weaker body means that if he had the chance, he would've been able to kill John. But that alone doesn't guarantee a victory.
Bryant: The Reaper may have been the deadliest antagonist in the entirety of Assassination Classroom, and he certainly made this a very difficult battle. But in the end, John had the speed and destructive power he needed to take him down.
Thea: Which means this WIB Victory, goes to John Bertrand!
Not gonna lie, I went into this fully expecting to have to apologize to Crusherboy93 for killing his OC. I was genuinely surprised to find out that the Reaper would actually lose! Though it is possible that he would've won. In fact, this fight was almost fifty-fifty. But anyways, most of everything else I have to say is above. I do feel like I'm doing too much Assassination Classroom for this series, so the next couple of fights after the next will feature characters not related to that series. The next one is one that I promised to do, so yeah. I'll try to update everything as soon as I can. As per the usual, leave a review! Azure out!
