Disclaimer: I don't own Kid Icarus or Legend of Zelda. Both are owned by the famous Nintendo game company.
Bryant: There have been many different deities throughout the years, whether in mythology or in fiction. And many of these gods or goddesses tend to choose champions, to do quests in their lands to save the world.
Thea: So why the heck do they pick so many kids?!
Bryant: Link, the Hero of Time.
Thea: And Pit, the Hero of Skyworld.
Bryant: For this battle, we'll be analysing the versions of Pit and Link that introduce their franchises to the world of 3-D games.
Thea: So we'll be looking at Kid Icarus Uprising for Pit's information. For Link, as you can probably guess by his intro, we'll be looking at Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for Link's information.
Bryant: I'm Bryant Reese.
Thea: And I'm Thea Price.
Bryant: And we're here to analyse these two fighters and find out who would win, a WI Battle!

Pit:
Bryant: The Goddess of Light Palutena. She's the guardian of the human world and Skyworld. So, when her sister Medusa began destroying the humans and ruining their crops, she punished her by turning her into a hideous gorgon. As revenge, Medusa kidnapped Palutena and held her captive in the Underworld after taking over Skyworld and imprisoning her angel warriors. To escape from the evil Medusa, Palutena used the last of her power to transport a sacred bow to her most loyal angel warrior. Pit.
Thea: Who looks like he was eight years old. Why did she think that was a good idea?
Bryant: Because it was. Pit managed to break free of his imprisonment and made it up to the Palace in the Sky. There he gained possession of the Three Sacred Treasures and used them to defeat Medusa. To reward Pit, Palutena chose him to be her champion warrior and general of her angel army. And so, Pit became her go-to choice for difficult battles. So when Medusa is resurrected, it's natural that Pit was chosen to fight her army.
Thea: Only, turns out that Medusa and her armies were actually being controlled by the God of the Underworld, Hades. Aka one of the best characters in the franchise.
Bryant: Agreed. Despite being caught off guard, Pit didn't hesitate to face not only the Underworld Army, but the Forces of Nature, and the Aurum Troops. Who were aliens.
Thea: Because why not. And luckily for Pit, he had what he needed to do the job. Being an angel general, he's super fast, super strong, and super tough. And naturally, being an angel, he has two angel wings that let him fly through the air.
Bryant: Actually, he can't.
Thea: What? But he's totally flying!
Bryant: Pit's wings are a little underdeveloped, so he can't actually fly by himself. Instead, Palutena grants him the Power of Flight. She can use this to pull himself back from battle, but more often than not, Pit often maneuvers through the air himself. But should he use the Power of Flight for too long, they will burst into flames, burning him inside and out, brutally killing him as he's sent down to the ground.
Thea: Wow. That's, not very good.
Bryant: Luckily, five minutes tend to be more than enough time for Pit to finish his job in the air. Not only is he a strong fighter, he's also a skilled one. He's an expert in most, if not all weapons available to him.
Thea: Oh man, I love this kid. He's got a bunch of different weapons he can use in battle. And while each have their uses in battle, they all provide melee and ranged options in battle. My favorite weapons are the Tiger Claws. They can fire talons, and increase Pit's speed in battles. Out of all his weapons, the claws are the quickest in battle.
Bryant: Well my favorite weapon is his EZ Cannon. While this cannon has a slow rate of fire, it makes up for this by shooting explosive homing shots. Cannons can also fire shots that bounce off walls.
Thea: Pit also has the Upperdash Arm, that cheap-ass Side-B that sends people flying through the air and fires ring shots, and is the best for dash attacks. The Guardian Orbitars can fire rapid fire shots and create barriers that can protect them from attacks. The First Blade is the most versatile of all of Pit's weapons, being good for ranged and melee combat.
Bryant: He also has the Insight Staff, which has the greatest range of all his weapons with shots that become stronger the farther they go. The Violet Palm is a tattoo that has the best homing attacks out of all of Pit's weapons. The Ore Club is unparalleled in terms of melee damage and can fire shots that pass through walls. However, Pit's favorite, and most iconic, weapon is the Palutena Bow.
Thea: This weapon is a badass weapon. It can fire arrows made of light that become faster the farther they can go. Pit can also guide the arrows with his mind. It can also split into twin blades that Pit is an expert at using. He can even twist the blades to spin it like a buzzsaw.
Bryant: However, these are simply the most well known of Pit's weapons. He has a large variety of each weapon type, with each having their own effects. And for the more powerful enemies, Pit can equip the Three Sacred Treasures.
Thea: With the Mirror Shield, he can block almost every attack and protects himself from petrification. With the Pegasus Wings, he can finally fly by himself for as long as he wants. And the Arrows of Light are easily his most powerful weapon, with both homing and rapid fire shots.
Bryant: With all these together, Pit dones the Silver Armor.
Thea: Which is actually gold. Because, reasons.
Bryant: Pit is fast enough to fly to the Space Station known as the Lunar Sanctum in just 50 seconds. It's implied that the Lunar Sanctum is at the same distance as the moon, but this is unlikely. It's probably more so at the same distance as a GPS satellite. Considering he's flying just above the clouds, it's likely he's flying in the troposphere, which is about 9 miles tall. Considering the average GPS satellites are around 12,400 miles above the earth, this means that Pit can fly at speeds a little under 900 thousand miles an hour. That's over Mach 1,172. He can even react to the laser that covers this distance in a second. That puts it at speeds equal to just under 45 million miles an hour.
Thea: He's a speedy little guy, huh?
Bryant: He's also capable of obliterating a boulder, one which became dust with a single attack. By comparing the boulder's size to that of the pillars nearby, which should be about 18 feet tall, the boulder most likely had a diameter of about 10 feet. Considering that the World of Kid Icarus is based on Greek mythology, it's likely that the boulder is made of limestone, the most common mineral in Greece. Considering the volume of the boulder, and the fact that he turned it into dust, he must've hit it with the force equivalent to over 1.2 megatons of force.
Thea: Damn. And on top of that, he can take a hit from Hades, who can cut through a giant pillar of diamond! Man, what a waste of money.
Bryant: Diamonds can be shattered by a normal human with just a hammer. But most of those videos have a tiny diamond being shattered by a hammer. By comparing the pillar of diamond to Hades, and comparing Hades to the Great Sacred Treasure, and comparing the Great Sacred Treasure to Pit, we found that the pillar of diamond must have a width of about 79 feet. Considering that, this means Hades must've struck with more than 46 megatons of force.
Thea: Jeez. Pit is a powerhouse! He's defeated endless hordes of the Underworld Army, Forces of Nature, and the Aurum troops. He's defeated Medusa, Thanatos, Phosphora, Arlon, Pyrrhon, his dark clone named Dark Pit, because of course he is, and even Palutena and Hades.
Bryant: However, though Pit is easily one of the best warriors in all of Kid Icarus, and possibly even of Nintendo, he's not perfect. He's quite gullible, continuously falling for the same trick over and over again. And he often relies on help from Palutena, who he's fiercely loyal to, almost to a fault. He also is quite childish and arrogant, often underestimating his opponents or overestimating his skills. And on top of that, he can't read.
Thea: But this guy's a true hero. Pit will always save the day, even if it means literally burning to near-death just to save Dark Pit. Which he did. Damn, props to you Pit. You have my respect. It's a good thing Palutena, Dark Pit, and Viridi managed to save him by taking him to the Rewind Spring, where he was restored to life. Evildoers, look out! Because if you decide to stir up trouble, you should know that Pit would be on his way to save the day.
(Pit) Sorry to keep you waiting!

Link:
Bryant: Centuries ago, Demise, the Lord of Darkness, led a conquest against the humans of the world. His might was so fearsome, that all trembled against him. However, Demise soon found his end at the hand of the Chosen Champion of Hylia, the Goddess of the Triforce. But though he fell, he did so making a promise. A promise saying that the Blood of the Goddess and the Spirit of the Hero would be forever plagued by his anger and hate made incarnate.
Thea: So basically, he's the ultimate sore loser.
Bryant: In a nutshell, yeah.
Thea: The Goddess Hylia would have a kid, and that kid would be the start of the Royal Family that eventually gives birth to Princess Zelda. Who would be the Blood of the Goddess. But the Spirit of the Hero is the one who would succeed the previous hero for their heroic spirit. Duh.
Bryant: So, when Ganondorf began his rise to take over the kingdom of Hylia for himself, the wise and ancient Deku Tree had no choice but to send a fairy named Navi to inform the chosen champion of his destiny. This champion, was Link.
Thea: Link grew up with the Kokiri, or the children of the forest. However, while most of the Kokiri had a fairy companion at their side, Link didn't. So he ended up being the brunt of many of the other children's jokes. Luckily, he had the support of Saria, a girl who was like a sister to him. Aw, that's nice. I love my sister. She was the best person I've ever known.
Bryant: Yeah, I know the feeling. My baby sister was the sweetest thing. But putting that aside, after being informed of the danger of Ganondorf and saving the Great Deku Tree, Link immediately travelled to Hyrule Castle, where Ganondorf was already manipulating the King. Upon meeting Princess Zelda, Link was sent to travel across the land to retrieve the Spirit Stones. Upon returning, he saw Zelda running away from Ganondorf, throwing him the Ocarina of Time. Link went to the Temple of Time, and opened the Door of Time.
Thea: Real creative.
Bryant: Inside, Link found the Master Sword, the Blade of Evil's Bane. But when he pulled it out, he was sealed away for seven years, fast asleep until he woke up as an adult. Open waking, Link discovered that Ganondorf had gained access to the Sacred Realm and took over the land.
Thea: And now, Link has to go around, and save the day. Luckily, along the way, he got all the items and weapons he needed. Strap in ladies and gentlemen, this is going to be a long one.
Bryant: For Link, we'll be giving him his full arsenal from both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. The Master Sword is easily Link's most iconic weapon. A weapon forged by the Goddess Hylia and the original Champion, this blade was made specifically to battle the forces of Darkness. It's unbreakable, capable of destroying magic barriers, breaking curses, and seal away demons.
Thea: But while the Master Sword is definitely one of the coolest weapons in all of video games, it's far from Link's only weapon. He's got some deep pockets. He's got the multi-targeting Boomerang, which can stun enemies, leaving them open for attack. For long ranged combat, he uses the Hero's Bow, which has access to three different arrows. Fire, Ice, and Light, the last of which is the most powerful. He can zip around the place with either the Hookshot or Longshot. And while the Megaton Hammer is slow, and can't seal away darkness or anything like that, it can do just as much as the Master Sword in terms of damage. Link can use this hammer to smash boulders and enemies alike.
Bryant: Link also carries a large assortment of bombs. It's worth noting, however, that most of these are more suited for exploration than actual fights. Fortunately, Link also carries a large assortment of defensive items.
Thea: The Golden Gauntlets increase his lifting strength, but not his striking power. He can use these golden babies to throw a giant pillar of granite through the air like a basketball. The Iron Boots increase his weight, allowing him to fight against strong winds and currents. The Hover Boots let Link glide across the floor, increasing his speed and letting him go over water. And finally, Link has the unbreakable Hylian Shield, which can block any attack.
Bryant: He also has three spells which he can use. Naryu's Love protects him from attack. Din's Fire creates a dome of fire around Link. And Farore's Wind allows for short teleportation.
Thea: He also has the Ocarina of Time, which let's him change the weather, manipulate the daytime cycle, travel through time, and put foes to sleep. And finally, he has the Triforce of Courage. While it doesn't give him immortality like the Triforce of Power, it does protect him from magic.
Bryant: With all this and his knack for solving puzzles, Link was able to save the Six Sages, rescue Zleda, and save the Hyrule Kingdom by sealing Ganondorf in Sacred Realm. As an apology for making Link waste his childhood saving her, Zelda used the Ocarina of Time to send Link back in time to prevent Ganondorf from taking over in the first place. Unknowingly creating a lot of problems.
Thea: Yeah, in Ocarina of Time, the Legend of Zelda timeline ended up splitting into three timelines. The Downfall Timeline, when Ganondorf wins and Link dies. The Adult Timeline is the timeline that Link leaves behind, which ended up sucking as well. Ganondorf managed to get out from the Sacred Realm, and since Link went to a different timeline, the Kingdom of Hyrule was doomed. So, the gods told the Kingdom to go to the upper mountains, and just Noah'ed Ganondorf, covering the world in a Great Sea. But in the Child Timeline, Link had his own problems. After revealing Ganondorf's evil plot, Link set off on his horse Epona to find Navi, who left after the events of Ocarina of Time. And then this little brat named Skull Kid stole the Ocarina and Epona and took them to the parallel dimension called Termina. And Link has to, of course, save the day again by making sure the creepy-ass moon didn't fall on the town.
Bryant: And with new adventures, comes new gear. Throughout his adventure through Termina, Link has obtained a lot of new gear. He obtained several new swords, from the Razor Sword to the Great Fairy Sword, though it is implied that the Master Sword is still the superior blade. The Mirror Shield can deflect most attacks. But what really makes Link stand out here is his assortment of magic masks.
Thea: With the Deku Mask, he becomes a Deku Scrub and gains it's agility and flight with a special flower. He also has special bubble attacks. The Bunny Hood increases his speed and agility. The Goron Mask turns him into a Goron, granting him a rolling attack along with the Goron Pound attack. He also gets a Goron's crazy strength and durability to survive living in a lava based environment.
Bryant: The Zora Mask turns Link into a Zora, allowing him to swim at high speeds, breath underwater, create an electric barrier, and attack with boomerang-like fins. The Giant Mask turns Link into a giant and grants him even more strength than the Goron Mask. However, to combat the power of Majora, Link dons his most powerful mask. The Fierce Deity Mask. This mask turns Link into an adult, grants him an inhumane level of power, and grants him the Fierce Deity Sword, which is twice as powerful as the Master Sword, and can fire sword beams.
Thea: Link is strong enough to push massive stone blocks without the Golden Gauntlets, fast enough to dodge lasers from just a few feet away, and skilled enough to keep up with Ganondorf in a one on one fight. And having done a bunch of time traveling to save people, he's been doing this for a long time. He's defeated countless enemies, saved Hyrule and Termina, and defeated the likes of Queen Gohma, Volvagia, Twinrova, Majora, and Ganondorf in both his human and beast forms.
Bryant: And while this is admittedly a big stretch, it's reasonable to say that Link can scale to Ganondorf, who was able to tank Hyrule Castle falling on top of him. Sure, the Triforce of Power did grant him immortality, but that doesn't make him invulnerable. He can still be hurt, yet he survived the castle falling on him with little to no damage. The castle should weigh in at about 20 kilotons of weight, assuming it's made of sandstone and scaling it to average medieval castles. Considering all that, it's likely that Ganondorf survived a force of about 180 kilotons.
Thea: But Link isn't perfect. He has a limited supply of bombs and arrows, and his masks and spells all have a limited pool of magic he can pull from. He's not immortal, and does eventually die. And he didn't die in peace. He became a stalfos, an undead being, unable to move on, unsatisfied that he couldn't pass on his legacy and knowledge. Damn, that's depressing.
Bryant: But eventually, he did find peace, by training his descendent and passing on his knowledge and training to him. His descendent would go on to become the Hero of Twilight, Link.
Thea: Because that's not confusing at all.
Bryant: Even so, at the end of the day, there have been few Links as legendary, or as acknowledged, as the Hero of Time.
(Link) Hyah! (Pulls out Master Sword, causing the room to glow.)

Bryant: Alright, the stage is set, time to start this dance.

A large, lush field is currently filled with music. A slow, peaceful melody is being played. On top of a rock, an elf-like boy clad in green was playing on a blue ocarina with his eyes closed, simply enjoying the music. A purple-hilted sword and quiver was on his back, along with a blue shield. A bow was sitting on the rock next to him. Link continued to play, before opening his eyes and putting the ocarina away. He grabbed his bow and stood, looking up to the sky. A massive door opened in the sky.
An angel with brown hair ran down the dark doorway, holding a sharp blue bow. He skidded to a stop in front of the open door and leapt out. His wings spread wide, allowing him to fly down to the ground in front of the green clad boy. Pit gave Link a goofy grin.
"Sorry to keep you waiting!" he said. The bow in his hand split into two, becoming twin blades which the angel spun before slamming them together in an X over his head. He took his stance, bouncing lightly on his feet. His opponent took out both his sword and shield and took his own stance. The two readied themselves for a fierce battle.
The clash of legends begins now!
Fight!
Pit started first, puting the Palutena Bow together and firing several shots, the arrows of light zooming towards Link. Link raised the Master Sword and blocked the arrows, hitting them with the Blade of Evil's Bane. He charged forward, holding his shield up as he ran, deflecting the arrows with the occasional slash. Pit flapped his wings, taking to the air before charging forward. The two slammed into each other, Pit pushing the twin blades against the Hylian Shield. Link pushed Pit away with a yell and slashed at Pit, hitting him several times before sending him into the air with another hit.
"Woah!" Pit said before he straightened himself in the air. He aimed another arrow and fired at Link. The Hero of Time ran across the field before leaping behind the rock he was sitting on. Equipping the Golden Gauntlets, Link heaved the rock towards Pit. Pit cried out in shock at the rock before calling out his Guardian Orbitars. The boulder bounced off and headed back to Link.
"That all you got?" Pit taunted. Link gritted his teeth. He took out the Hookshot and fired it at the boulder, pulling himself towards it and using it to leap at Pit. Pit accepted the unspoken challenge by charging forward. The two collided again, pushing their swords against each other before Pit threw Link up. Link fired the Hookshot again, hitting Pit. The two were pulled towards each other before Link slammed a dropkick against Pit and slammed him against the ground. Pit spun, kicking Link away before flipping to his feet. Link took out his bow and shot several arrows towards Pit. Pit sliced the arrows out of midair before shooting to the sky. He took out his EZ Cannon.
"Let's see you deal with this!" Pit said as he began firing at Link. Link ran around the field as the shots homed in on him. Link leapt and did a spin attack, sending the shots away. Pit aimed at Link again and charged up a shot, firing a massive ball of energy towards the Hero of Time. Link looked up at the incoming attack and called up Naryu's Love, the barrier forming around him and protecting him. A cloud of dust exploded, surrounding Link. Pit flew towards the cloud cautiously. The Hookshot darted out of the cloud and pulled Pit screaming to the ground. Link met him with the Megaton Hammer, slamming it into Pit and sending him flying. Pit got up and took out the Ore Club before charging at Link.
"Come on!" he said. Link swung back the Megaton Hammer and slammed it against the Ore Club, the force of the two powerful weapons sending a shock wave across the ground. The two heroes pushed against each other before Link pushed Pit back, swinging the Megaton Hammer again. Pit dodged by flipping backwards. Link took out his Boomerang and threw it at Pit. The angel dodged and rushed forward, hitting Link with the Ore Club several times before kicking him. Link rolled to his feet before taking out the Master Sword and blocking Pit's attack with the Upperdash Arm. The two struggled with each other before Pit sent the sword flying. Pit reared back the scarlet Arm to hit Link again, but cried out in pain as the Boomerang smacked him in the head. Link quickly sent Pit flying with another hit from the Megaton Hammer before shooting him with an Ice Arrow, encasing the angel in ice. The ice covered angel fell to the ground. Link threw several bombs at Pit before doing several back flips and catching the Master Sword. He took out a fire arrow and shot the bombs, causing a massive explosion. Pit yelled as he flew into the air. He straightened himself and glared down at Link.
"Alright then. Let's go!" Pit yelled as he zipped towards Link. Link took out the Bunny Hood and jumped above Pit, shooting another Ice Arrow towards Pit. Pit swung his Upperdash Arm above him, sending the arrow back towards him. Link blocked the Ice Arrow with the Hylian Shield, but was slammed into by Pit. The two flew up into the air, going above the clouds. Pit yelled as he threw Link away and slammed him with another hit from the Upperdash Arm. Link yelled as he was sent flying. He recovered and shot his Hookshot towards Pit. Pit dodged and shattered the chain before shooting another volley from the EZ Cannon.
Link quickly used Farore's Wind to dodge the cannon volley and used the Deku Mask to begin floating down with a Deku Flower. Pit charged down, taking out the Insight Staff and firing a shot that cut the Deku Flower. Deku Link fell down before changing into a Goron and curling up into a ball and slamming into the ground. He got up and changed back into Link. Pit landed next to him. Link immediately slashed at Pit. Pit took out the Palutena bow and blocked it, sparks flying.
"Come on!" Pit said again as the two began clashing blades. Sparks continued to fly as the sound of colliding metal filled the plains. Pit leapt back and charged forward again. Link took out the Hylian Shield and took his stance. Pit leapt above Link and slashed down, the Hylian Shield coming up to block each hit. Pit landed behind Link, whirling around to block another slash. Link spun rapidly, slashing repeatedly at Pit who continued to backflip away. Link threw another bomb, only for Pit to knock it back with the Upperdash Arm. Link blocked the explosion with his shield, only for Pit to send Link flying with another hit from the Arm. Link landed on the ground a bit away. Link donned the Fierce Deity Mask, turning into his most powerful form. Pit donned the Silver Armor in response, the two preparing for the finale.
"Time to end this." Pit said as he readies his bow. Link roared in agreement as he charged forward. Pit blocked the first swing with his bow and pushed the Deity away. Link roared as he sent a sword beam at Pit. Pit used the Mirror Shield to block the attack and send it back. Link swung his sword and dispersed the attack. Pit flew back and charged up an Arrow of Light. Link snarled as he ran forward. Pit yelled as he fired the Arrow, the green projectile gaining more power as it flew forward. Link roared again as he swung the Fierce Deity Sword, the two weapons colliding. Link began sliding across the ground as he held the Arrow back. Pit pulled back another Arrow and fired, the two Arrows of Light overpowering Link and shooting through him. Link stood still before falling forward, the Mask falling off his face. Pit stood still as well before thrusting a hand forward, two fingers held up.
"VICTORY!"
KO!
Thea: Woah! That was intense!
Bryant: Link certainly put up an excellent fight. And his large assortment of weapons kept Pit on his toes. And judging by their laser dodging feats, it's clear that Link held a bigger advantage in terms of reaction speed.
Thea: But that's about it. Sure Link had a bigger arsenal. But most of the gear he had was for exploring, rather than actually fighting. While they could be used for battle, Pit's weapons were better. Pit's weapons can be used for both long ranged and melee attacks, while Link couldn't do the same. Plus, Link can only use so many arrows and bombs before running out of both.
Bryant: Link's three spells could provide a good chunk of help. He wouldn't have to worry about moving fast when he could teleport, and his barriers would make up for his durability. However, his limited magic meant that this wouldn't last.
Thea: Link's masks were awesome, but they couldn't keep up with Pit at all. Goron Link was fast, but not fast enough to reach space in fifty seconds. Deku Link could fly through the air, but not as well as the Power of Flight or the Pegasus Wings. Zora Link's powers are situational, while Pit can fight just about anywhere. Giant Link is strong, but not strong enough to turn a boulder into dust with one hit.
Bryant: What's more, Link can only use one mask at a time, whereas Pit has all his physical abilities on hand. This means that Link would be playing catch up, allowing Pit to control the battle.
Thea: The only mask that can come close to that is the Fierce Deity Mask. But while Fierce Deity Link might've been able to destroy the moon, he didn't do it by swinging his sword or something like that. He just defeated Majora, who was the one who was responsible for the moon. So, it was less of him destroying the moon and more of him beating Majora. There's no proof he can beat Pit, especially when Pit uses the Three Sacred Treasures. And while Link's been battling for a long time between his two games, Pit's been doing the same for two games too, with a full 25 years of serving as Palutena's general between them. He's got way more experience.
Bryant: Link's battle against the likes of Ganondorf and Majora proves he can hold his own against Pit, but in the end, Pit's greater strength, speed, durability, arsenal, and experience is what won him the battle.
Thea: Link just got Arr-owned.
Bryant: ...really?
Thea: The winner of this WIB Battle is Pit!
I was really excited to write this battle. I love characters with a lot of cool weapons and abilities, Pit and Link are two of my favorite characters in Smash, and both the Kid Icarus and Legend of Zelda series are some of my favorite franchises. Hope you enjoyed. As per the usual, leave a review! Azure out!
A large turtle stomped across the land. An army of Goombas and Koopas followed their king. The turtle laughed with a booming voice as he stared at the land before him. Another army was walking towards his. The Waddle Dees were following behind their king. A robed penguin with a massive mallet. The penguin laughed in his own booming voice. The two kings stopped laughing and glared at each other, growling.
