Good Start

Chapter 6

Christine's parents showed back up a couple weeks later, but Christine insisted on telling them privately that she was pregnant and that she had gotten married. Mike honestly felt sorry for her and was intensely protective. The pregnancy wasn't the easiest for her and she was constantly sick. Mike thought it might be from nerves but he wasn't sure.

The dinner at the house that Christine grew up at was very formal. The food was catered in and Laurie and Pete were not invited because Laurie had been disowned by her parents. Christine's dad wasn't terrible to deal with and Christine seemed to interact more with him. Christine's mom; Beth, was hell on wheels.

That night; Christine was tossing and turning in bed. She was normally very still and Mike was worried. Finally; he put his arms around her, hoping it would help her sleep so he could have a fair amount of rest. Thankfully, they were both off work that day and when Mike woke up that morning, Christine was still sleeping in his arms and his hand was resting on her growing abdomen. About that same time, Christine's eyes popped open and she gave him a soft smile.

"You were tossing and turning. I thought if I was holding you, it might help." Mike explained.

"Apparently it did. I never woke up." Christine remarked.

"Good. So, I am off Sunday and Mom said she is doing lasagna. Asked if you could make a dessert." Mike said.

"Anything in particular?" Christine asked.

"She didn't specify. Dad yelled in the background that he likes cheesecake." Mike said.

"Okay." Christine said. They were still laying in bed and Mike took a chance and gave Christine a long kiss. He was a little surprised that she accepted it and even more surprised that she continued to kiss him. It made their marriage seem normal and Mike could tell the kisses were becoming passionate.

"The baby?" Mike asked Christine.

"It'll be alright, just have to be gentle." Christine answered. Mike had raised up and Christine pulled his t-shirt off.

"Are you sure?" Mike asked.

"Yes." Christine answered before pushing him back into the pillows and kissing down his chest. She was taking charge.

"Alright then." Mike said with a groan. For a moment he wondered if they were making another mistake but it only lasted for a moment. An hour later; Mike rolled onto his back and sighed in satisfaction. "That was…amazing." Mike said. Christine had curled into his side and was catching her breath.

"All men say that." Christine remarked.

"I suppose so but it was." Mike answered before giving her another kiss.

"We could do this a bit more often…course, I am starting to get huge so maybe not." Christine said.

"You look like you swallowed a small basketball. You are not huge; despite what your mother said." Mike said.

"I will only get bigger, Mike and once I have the baby; my body won't be like you remember. And once the baby is here; doing this won't be the same. We won't be able to spend the morning in bed like this. This apartment; if we stay here, will be cramped and money will be tight. We have a lot of decisions to make in the next few months." Christine said.

"I noticed you brushed it off when your mom mentioned a nanny." Mike said.

"Because I don't want someone else raising my baby. I want to, but I know I probably need to work." Christine said.

"Let me ask this; do you want to? Or would you rather stay home?" Mike asked.

"I want to be home with the baby. I love nursing but I've always wanted to be a mom more." Christine answered.

"We'd have to be more careful financially. Find a different neighborhood but we wouldn't have childcare costs." Mike warned.

"I can be careful." Christine answered hopefully.

"Let me do some thinking. I think we could pull it off if its what you really want." Mike said.

"I do." Christine replied before giving Mike another long kiss. She relaxed and was quickly asleep with her head on his chest, leaving Mike to plan and scheme on how he would be able to give her a chance to be home with their newborn.
