Good Start
Chapter 10
Christine was slightly surprised at how good of a dad Mike was. She had also been shocked to find he was a good husband. He had given her something she had never had before. A home, family and normalcy. The closest she had ever come to having a family was hanging around Laurie and Pete.
Kaitlyn was a good baby and was already spoiled. Sarah and Katherine were wonderful about helping but also letting Mike and Christine parent their daughter. And once Mike went back to work, Christine spent a lot of time upstairs with them while he was gone. Kaitlyn had her own bassinet in the living room and there were plenty of waiting arms.
Late one night, Christine was patiently waiting for Mike to get home from work. Kaitlyn was sound asleep in her crib and Christine smiled when she saw Mike pull in. Her check-up appointment had been that day and she was glad to be cleared for all activities. As soon as Mike walked in, she could tell he was in a mood. She gave him a long kiss, glad he let her do that much.
"I have a plate of dinner in the microwave for you. Do you want it warmed up?" Christine asked.
"Yeah. I'm gonna take a quick shower." Mike said. He walked into their bedroom and then to the bathroom without saying another word. Christine waited a couple minutes and then reheated the food. She heard the shower turn off and a moment later, Mike came out wearing pajama pants and a t-shirt. He checked on Kaitlyn before sitting down at their little table.
"Kaitlyn has had a good day. She hung out with your mom and grandma while I went to the doctor." Christine said. She sat the plate, silverware and a glass of milk on the table in front of Mike and he nodded.
"Good. Did the appointment go okay?" Mike asked.
"I was cleared for all activities. I've healed up." Christine answered with a smile.
"Good. I am just so tired tonight." Mike said.
"Its fine. Maybe on your next night off?" Christine suggested. She never thought she'd have to schedule sex with her husband but apparently that was part of having a baby and job.
"Maybe." Mike said. It made Christine wonder if there was something wrong with her. Sure, she had gained a bit of weight that she hadn't lost since having Kaitlyn, but Mike hadn't seemed to mind that while she was pregnant and they had been fairly active throughout the pregnancy. Of course, though; she would not voice that concern.
"While you're eating, I think I'll take a shower too if you can listen for the baby?" Christine asked.
"Sure." Mike answered. Christine bent over and gave Mike a kiss on the cheek before heading in for her own shower. Mid-way through, she heard Kaitlyn crying but she also heard Mike talking to her. When she walked back into the living area, he was holding her and finishing his dinner.
"I can take her so you can finish?" Christine offered but Mike shook his head.
"I'm almost done and I don't get to hold her much." Mike remarked. It was a strange comment but Christine let it go.
"She really loves it when you do." Christine remarked. Mike had made Kaitlyn a bottle and it was propped against his chest as he held her and ate. Kaitlyn was watching Mike as she took her bottle. She was smiling around the bottle, probably because she adored Mike. It made Christine glad she pumped so Mike could feed Kaitlyn when he was able to. It created beautiful moments for Christine to witness and a bond between Mike and Kaitlyn.
