MOON
"It's getting late."
"Won't your parents scold you if you come home late?"
"Nope, I told them that I would go to the movie theater with you and that the movie was long. Besides, we're already high school students. No one can scold us for being out late."
"You're right; we're already big girls who can be away from home."
"Ah, I know your grandmother doesn't scold you, but won't she worry if you're late?"
"No, she knows I'm with you."
Both girls smiled at each other and continued on their way home. It was a nice surprise to find out that their houses were only a twenty minute walk away; they didn't even have to take the bus. Going to the movies together had been so much fun. When they saw that there would be a movie show of one of the movies they liked, they decided to see it on the big screen and it was as exciting as they imagined. Nothing could beat surround sound and the big screen. It was also a remastered version of "The Lone Sword", impossible to miss the opportunity!
"Thank you for inviting me, Yukishiro-san," Nagisa thanked with a bright smile. "I already know it by heart, but nothing compares to seeing it on a big screen."
"You're right, it's more exciting. Plus the remastered sound sounded great," Honoka added with the same excitement.
"I know!" Nagisa took a few steps forward. The two of them were walking along the river bank. Nagisa found a branch and looked at her classmate. "O enemy of mine! In peacetime we would have become best friends, almost brothers!" Nagisa said with her best performance.
Nagisa laughed cutely, quickly looking for something to "defend" herself, and found another branch. "I'd have liked nothing more than to be your friend, but this life wants us on enemy sides," Honoka recited with a rather good performance, "end my life or I'll end yours. If I survive, I'll live every day of my life honoring your bravery," the girl took a battle stance. "And if it's the edge of your katana that takes my life, then I ask you to live proudly until we meet again in another life."
"I promise."
The two let out a fierce battle cry, but instead of re-enacting the battle with dignity, they only managed to trip over each other and roll across the grass. Honoka was on top of Nagisa.
"Ouch!"
"Misumi-san, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" Honoka used her arms to push herself up a bit, but seeing her and the way the light from the full moon illuminated her face made her heart flutter.
"I'm fine, don't worry. Are you okay, Yukishiro-san? Didn't you get hurt?" Nagisa asked as she grumbled a bit. She wasn't hurt but the fall hurt. She opened her eyes and what she saw was Yukishiro Honoka's beautiful face above her own. The poor thing blushed up to her ears and swallowed.
Now they were both flushed, they didn't have the strength or the will to move. They also didn't stop looking at each other.
"I didn't get hurt, don't worry."
"Good".
Honoka had to use all of her courage to at least get off Nagisa. She managed to lie down next to her. The two of them sighed at the same time as they looked at the starry sky, but without a doubt what caught their attention the most was the moon. Nagisa looked at her classmate out of the corner of her eye. The moon lit up the already beautiful girl in a beautiful way.
"The girl under the stars," Nagisa murmured between her lips.
"Excuse me?" Honoka couldn't hear her.
"It's nothing!" Nagisa cleared her throat. "I mean," she quickly looked at the sky again. "I mean... Well... The Moon is beautiful, isn't it?"
"Yes, the moon is beautiful," Honoka replied with a soft smile.
Then Honoka's eyes widened after realizing what they both had said, Nagisa too. Both girls blushed more, especially knowing what that phrase meant. They sat down at the same time and looked at each other nervously.
"I mean…!" Nagisa panicked.
"Me too…!" Honoka replied.
"That's the sentence a boy should say to me," Nagisa muttered as she scratched the back of her neck.
"That's the line I should say to a girl I like, unless she says it to me first," it was Honoka's turn to mutter.
"Sorry?" Nagisa blinked twice.
Honoka rubbed her neck. "I like girls, I think it's better to tell you first before… Well", she looked at her and smiled nervously. "Before I can say we're friends."
"What? Ah… I mean…" she cleared her throat and smiled at her. "Friends... Friends sounds good."
Honoka smiled.
NOTES:
月が綺麗ですね | tsuki ga kirei desu ne translates to "The moon is beautiful, isn't it?" This phrase is a more poetic way of saying I love you.
