The trio walked through the grassy plains of Route 2. "What do you think will be the first pokemon we encounter on our journey?" Present asked the boys.
"Whatever it is, I'll catch it first!" Future exclaimed.
"Do you ever stop boasting?" Past brought up.
"Of course, if I wasn't so humble I wouldn't be as amazing as I am. And if I wasn't amazing how would I ever stay ahead of you, Past?"
"You must really think highly of Past. To work so hard just to surpass him."
"Obviously; Past is my best friend for a reason. I need a strong rival in order to push me to be the strongest version of myself."
"Well I'm lucky to have him as a friend and rival too then." Present proclaimed.
Past blushed a little at his two friends bragging about him. "I'll have to work just as hard to be a worthy rival then. After all, I'm lucky to have you guys as well."
Present smiled at her friends, but then her attention was caught on something ahead. "Hey, what are those pokemon doing?"
The boys followed her gaze. Before them were four Slamster- hamster-like pokemon with a normal-type symbol on its side. They had tannish-brown fur and round yellow eyes. One Slamster tightened its body like a bullet, turning it into a small loaf shape. It looked like it was concentrating, then its body glowed a soft gray light. Suddenly- like a bullet- it launched itself at one of its brethren. The other Slamster flew a few yards away, but quickly regained composure. It began to ready its own attack, but stopped when it noticed the trio.
The other three noticed and turned their attention to them as well. In shock one ran away, however the other three readied attack at our trainers.
"Uh-oh! Quick our pokemon!" Past cried.
"Let's go, Reeno!"
"Let's do it, Sandy!"
"I choose you, Champ!"
The Slamster attacked first, striking each of the pokemon right back to their trainers. "Reeno, Vine Whip!"
Reeno's horn-vine grew and raced towards one Slamster like a whip. It smacked the pokemon sending it on its back. "Sandy, Ember!"
From the back of Sandy's throat a small ball of fire grew. He shot it at another of the Slamster, who landed next to its buddy. Finally Past cried, "Bubble!"
Frothing at the tip of his snout, bubbles formed. A large one shot out like a cannonball. It hit the third Slamster hard and then popped. The pokemon let out a cry from the attack as it slumped onto the ground.
However all three got up and readied their Tackle attacks. They shot at each pokemon like bullets with impressive accuracy for their level. The three were beginning to feel fatigued, as the first round of attacks had already left them soar throughout their bodies.
"We can catch them if we land one more attack!" Present announced.
"Together, Bubble!"
"Ember!"
"Vine Whip!" Each pokemon launched their attacks, each making direct contact and leaving the pokemon in a pile, slumped together.
"Now!" The three friends threw their pokeballs and caught their respective Slamster.
"We did it!" Present said happily.
"Yeah, we all caught the same Pokemon." It seemed like wheels were turning in Future's head. "Hm…hey guys, I'm thinking. If we stay too close together we'll probably end up having pretty similar teams. Maybe we should take our own ways for a bit. We could meet up at Oval Lake, it's not too far up ahead." Before either of his friends could agree or not he announced, "Yeah, that's the perfect plan. I'll go first- see you at Oval lake!" Future took off quickly.
"Wow, hard to get a word in edgewise with him sometimes."
"Yeah, he can be like that." Past agreed.
"Well even though I'm happy traveling together he makes a point. I guess I'll see you at Oval Lake, Past."
"See you there…oh wait! Let me heal your pokemon." Preset used some items she brought to restore Past's team's health. And with that, Present took off on her own way.
Past continued down Route 2, looking out for any neat Pokemon along the way to the lake. He saw a Plainpurr that reminded him of Beauty. He decided to leave it be as she was all the cat-pokemon he needed.
The next pokemon he thought he found was an Amingo, a waist level flamingo-pokemon with black ears dropping down the back of its head. It also had black legs, and a black stripe around its neck, but a pink body. It had yellow eyes and a yellow beak with a pink tip. Turns out it was just a lawn decoration someone had left oddly placed along the route.
Finally though he found a pokemon he wanted. It was a Flyxic. A round, purple, fly-pokemon with four pointed legs. It had a red toothy, side jaw and big, blue, compound eyes. It's a poison and bug type. Past sent out Champ into battle.
"Quick, Bubble!" Champ shot his bubble at the bug pokemon. It avoided and used a Toxic Thread attack. The poisonous thread wrapped around Champ. It burned but Champ could tough it out. Unfortunately the thread lowered his speed. "Bubble, again!"
This time the attack made contact. Flyxic nearly crashed to the ground, but managed to stay just barely airborne. It used Quick Attack, but that did little damage to Champ. "Final bubble!" Once again his attack hit the Flyxic and this time it hit the ground.
Past took this opportunity to throw his pokeball. It shook three times before making a satisfying 'click.' Past had caught the pokemon. "Ok buddy, I'll give you the nickname Buzz. Oh and I almost forgot to nickname my Slamster. I'll call her Striker."
Past was proud of his growing team and smiled in confidence. Looming in the distance he could see a sign shaped like an arrow. It sat at the edge of a dirt pathway. Past walked up to it, The sign read: Oval Lake.
Past ran up the path until he reached a beach surrounded by a canyon. He saw his friends down the beach. There were a couple of oddly dressed people talking with them.
"Seriously you kids, you either gotta join Team Travel or hand over your pokemon for our cause! Make a choice!"
