Fallen Crow
Crows Zero fanfiction (movie version)
Description:
Tanaka Yui's the only girl in Suzuran, a bystander – who refuses to take on anyone's side and likes to annoy a few certain people as much as she can – and the root trouble of the fights breaking out amongst the boys due to her gender and boys wanting her attention. Things were going okay until Takiya Genji's transfer to Suzuran during her senior year.
Chapter 2: Amongst Families
"What's with that face?"
A raised eyebrow, "What face?"
A finger pointed at her, "That face – did you take a look at the mirror today?"
A scoff, "Very smart of you."
Snickering, then silence.
They were sitting in the nearly empty classroom, surrounded by dirty desks and other garbage on the floor. All in frankly, it wasn't a nice view to take a look at, especially not for moody Tanaka Yui, Izaki Shun thought, looking observantly at his territory. Hell would most likely break out, should someone unfortunate manage to press the wrong button in Yui's machine known as the brain.
"Is it about that transfer student?"
His question startled her, making her look at him and just now realizing just how close they were. It wasn't anything unnatural for them to sit next to each other and annoy the hell out of the other, she did it often with Tokio, Tamao, and Hayashida Megumi, "Rinda-man", as well – sitting close to them or standing behind them and testing her luck and limits. She wasn't implying anything by acting like that, just that she liked the closeness and contact with people (she's uncertain of where this habit came, maybe it came from her yearning for people to treat her normally compared to how they usually treated her, whenever someone discovered her affiliation with the Yakuza family).
Scoffing, "News travels fast – what are they saying?"
Izaki Shun shrugged, and lit another cigarette before answering, "Something about you wanting to make him into the king of Suzuran, using your position and status amongst us, as well as planning to overthrow Serizawa's position with the help of the new kid."
Yui stared at him, admittedly taken aback by those pathetic rumors, dumbfounded and jaw dropped. "Seriously - and not a word about us being cousins?" When I'm gonna find out who started those shitty rumors – he's dead.
He raised an eyebrow at her, "He's got ties with Yakuza?"
She winced, "Forget I said it –,"
"No, you said you're cousins…and considering that you're somehow connected to Yakuza, it wouldn't be strange if that Takiya Genji was as well."
"…Have I ever told you, Shun, that you're too smart for your own good?"
He smirked, offering her a cigarette which she accepted. Yui eyed it, then glanced at Shun and then back at the cigarette.
"It's not poisoned, idiot."
She smacked him, lightly and playfully, before taking a long and enjoyable puff.
"I know," she breathed the smoke out, creating grayish clouds in front of them. "But it never hurts to be too careful, especially with the way I was raised."
Shun's dark brown eyes stared at her, calculative and observantly. He admits that while he may know this Tanaka Yui (who's sitting next to him, appearing to be so relaxed and casual, with crossed legs revealing her gymnastic tights under the skirt), he'll probably never fully understand this self-centered girl. Shun knew that Yui wasn't telling them, him, everything about her past nor her reasons as of how she ended up in Suzuran instead of that all-girls' school in the neighbor. He had seen the way, Yui sometimes looked at that direction – longingly, almost regrettably – but she never says anything.
During those three years, Izaki Shun's known her, he's never quite figured her out.
"For as long as you're a bystander, and won't take a clear side – you'll need all the luck and protection one can offer you," he said, finally ending their not uncomfortable silence.
Surprised, Yui's ebony brown eyes blinked at him before narrowing down into a wary and suspicious glare. She didn't like what he was suggesting, hell – Makise had said something similar to her and yeah…it didn't turn out too well, not for his boys and for her as he kept pestering and sending his underlings to get her to join his group. Everyone knew he had questionable motives behind his annoying requests, which was enough for the dark fierce red-haired girl to refuse his proposal to join him.
"I know," Yui snapped, handing Shun back his half-dead cigarette, before jumping off of the desk and straightened her black skirt. "Stop reminding me all fuckin' time, Izaki," she threw him an annoyed glare. "You should start worrying more about yourself – the last time I checked that pointless war to conquer Suzuran is still going on."
Izaki Shun shrugged, "Shut it – go annoy someone else," he said, shooing the girl away not wanting to be bothered with pointless comments, any longer.
Yui smirked, knowing that in a way she's won this personal bet of hers, "I may show up in that favorite shop of yours to play darts later, I'll let you know." He nodded, saying nothing as he watched her to sexily move her hips as she proceeded on to walk out of Class 3-D, earning lustful looks and whistles from Izaki's men (and her classmates).
Just as she walked out of the classroom, her cell-phone rang in a tone she easily recognized – she did not like the timing of this call.
Genji admits that he was surprised, more than surprised, to see Tanaka Yui in Suzuran – and later to find out that she's been a student of it ever since they started high school – but nothing was more surprised when he discovered that she was friends with Serizawa Tamao, the King of the Beasts.
He had heard about the guy in his old school, and now (after thinking hard) Genji also remembered Yui having mentioned this Serizawa Tamao in one of their conversations, cursing himself for not remembering it earlier. Perhaps this noisy music, in the club Genji liked to frequent, was to blame for his slow memory or those drinks he's been drinking for a while. Genji re-checked his cell-phone, and the time he had dialed Yui, having called her here so that they could talk – he sighed, she's not coming, is she?
"Must be lonely switching schools in your last year," a girl's voice suddenly spoke, drawing Genji's attention away from his thoughts and his trouble-maker cousin. "Right, Takiya-kun?"
It was his first time to see this strangely curious (and annoying) black haired girl – dressed in punk-rock style clothes. This girl almost resembled Yui, at the beginning of her expulsions and delinquent road (if he dared to say it so), and yet they weren't the same. Unlike Yui, Genji could tell that this stranger in front of him couldn't, didn't, fight – this girl was one of those girls that Yui greatly disliked – normal, boring, and typical good-girls.
There was only one person, who could've told her of Genji's name.
"Ushiyama, you've got a big mouth," Genji started with a pointed glare, placing his cigarette back between his lips, as well as turning his back to the girl, showing a clear disinterest. He had no idea why this unknown girl was bothering him.
"Don't get mad," Ushiyama, the bartender of this club and a good friend of sorts of him, spoke, smiling at Genji. "Meet Aizawa Ruka-chan," seemingly deciding on something, the girl, now named Ruka, stood up with a sigh and walked over to the other side of Genji.
"Ne, tell me – why did you transfer to Suzuran?"
Aizawa Ruka was curious, she had heard rumors about Suzuran (even about that one and only girl that attended it, although, who in this parts of town hasn't?), which was why she wanted to know why someone would voluntarily transfer there. According to Ushiyama, the only girl at Suzuran and Takiya Genji were blood-related cousins, making her more curious about the guy in front of her as well about the only girl in Suzuran, wanting to know how Takiya-Kun's cousin ended up in an all-boys' school. It was a rather interesting situation for Ruka.
"The "School of Crows" is considered the toughest in the nation," Ushiyama explained to Ruka, who had asked the question. "To be the king of the hill – why else?"
"Sounds like Yakuza," Ruka said, sounding disappointed, and yet, she had known that conquering the school was the wish and ambition of many students in Suzuran. She couldn't help but wonder if that was Tanaka Yui's goal as well. "You should quit," she added with a smile as she leaned against her hand, which in turn was placed on the counter.
There was a change of the music, people around them danced, cheered, drank, smoked, chatted, and flirted as their bodies moved according to the music or flirting. Takiya Genji liked being in this club, it was cozy and a good place to talk with his cousin, whenever she agreed (or had free time) to drag her ass over.
"Let's follow that hard shot of rock with a silky smooth chaser," one of the singers on the stage spoke to the microphone. "Our own Goddess of R&B – okay, here we go!" The guy continued, pushing the play button as a softer kind of rock music started to play in the background.
"Am I being a pest?" Ruka asked, realizing the reason behind Genji's unresponsiveness.
Genji sighed, looking at her annoyed, "Yes."
In truth, the only girl with whom Genji regularly spoke to was his cousin, Tanaka Yui, and that was also awkward and nonchalant from his side – he no longer, ever since they entered high school, knew what to talk about with the girl in the question either. She, Yui, had changed more than he liked to admit. He noticed Aizawa Ruka smiling, satisfied with having gotten a response, no matter how short it might have been, before walking away towards the stairs.
"Let's keep on rockin' till the mornin'!"
Genji's dark brown eyes watched Aizawa Ruka making her way towards the stairs, passing the half-drunk and chanting crowd. He couldn't help it – she annoyed him, and yet, Genji was curious to see where she was going after pestering him to no end.
"It's getting' hot in here! Keep it hot!"
He blinked as he noticed Aizawa Ruka to casually walk on the stage, joining the dancers and people on it, grabbing a microphone before she started to sing. Unlike the earlier song, this one was much softer and admittedly not all so to his taste, but it was good.
"What do you think?" Ushiyama asked, his body moving along with the music and song, wearing that ever annoying smirk. "What do you think? What do you think?!"
Instead of answering, Genji threw a glare at Ushiyama's direction and stood up to go to take a better look at the stage. It was both to check out Aizawa Ruka on the stage, and to see if Yui had, quite possibly, hidden into the crowd as she sometimes liked to do. After a minute of looking around, Genji narrowed his eyes, promising that next time he would drag the girl here with him.
She had stood him up, and not for the first time.
Tanaka Yui let out a yawn, ignoring her repeatedly ringing cell-phone as she sat up from the bed she shared with a sleeping owner of this bed. She could hear him grunt, and to try and block the phone's ringtone out. Then, finally – it stopped ringing, much for both of their happiness.
She ran a hand through her fiery red, messy hair, sighing as she tried to figure out how they always end up like this – laying naked in the bed, next to each other, and enjoying the warmth of each other's bodies. If she thought about it, their strange 'relationship' has lasted for over a year, give or take a few months.
"Leaving already?"
Blinking, Yui turned to look at the guy, she thought had been asleep, only to find him wide awake. He wasn't surprised to find her attempting to leave without a word, she always did after they had sex (he just so has to add in his mind that Tanaka Yui was great in bed, better than he had thought her to be – it was sort of addiction from his side to spend time, from time to time, with her like this).
She nodded, "Kind of – I promised uncle I'd be back earlier today."
He nodded, before pulling her closer to him so that he could kiss her, unaware of when the next time she would come over would be. His one hand was softly touching her neck, while the other one was wrapped around her waist, refusing to let her go without a fight. He chuckled as Yui moaned, allowing him to pull her against him, letting their bodies touch in the way they had an hour ago.
"You…really…are…annoying," she muttered between the kisses, staring down at him as his head touched the pillow.
He smirked, "Oi, that's my line," he said, giving her a quick peck before allowing Yui to leave his side and start searching for her clothes, which were all scattered around the room.
Laying on the bed, he watched as Yui dressed, feeling too comfortable and lazy to move. It was kind of a pattern in their relationship (if it was even the correct word to describe whatever they were) – they drank, had sex in either his or her place (although mostly his) and one of them would end up leaving before anyone got a wing of this. Both of them knew that boys wouldn't take this fact lightly should a word of their 'relationship' get out, especially since Yui was known to be a bystander, and involving herself with one of the important figures would pretty much blow everything she's built up. All of her friendships and position in Suzuran would cease to exist into being his girl, nothing more or less.
It was just how things were, even if he didn't like it.
"You'll call?" He couldn't help but ask, hopefully.
Even though he would never admit it to anyone aloud, he wants to be more public, open, with Yui – not to sneak around like some kind of criminals. He knew that he was way in too deep of this shit than he was supposed to be, than what they agreed to do.
She glanced back at him, now fully dressed, before walking over to the bed and giving a chaste kiss, "We'll see," was her short reply. "I've gotta go, didn't say that I was gonna stay out tonight."
Yui winced, the last time she had done that and hadn't gone home for a night, had turned out into a nightmare – according to her uncle, he had put almost all men in search of her, which is why she was surrounded by three of his men, the minute she had walked onto the main street, and demanded her to go with them. Things would've been ugly, had Yui not recognized them, although, she suspected that to the outsiders – it did look…highly suspicious. Three yakuza-looking grown-ups surrounding an 'innocent' looking girl, leading her to god-knows-where.
She was surprised no one called for a cop, and to add the punishment she got from her uncle was something she never wanted to go through again. All she had to do now was to let him know if she was planning on staying somewhere else for the night, if not she had to be back before the dawn, otherwise Yui would have to pay hell for breaking this rule.
He groaned, "You can ring him, now," he suggested, before pulling Yui down to kiss her lips, once again, then slowly moving his lips to her chin, earning a soft moan from her.
"Mhmh, I could," Yui agreed, moaning as his lips sucked her neck while his one hand kept playing with her breast.
"Then why aren't you?"
His hand – from breast – went down to her womanhood, gaining another lustful moan from Yui as he started to rub his thumb against her soft spot. Using the moment Yui's guard was down, he flipped her to her back so that he was on top of her, earning him a pouting glare from the girl.
"Really?"
He kissed her, "You know I want you to stay," he whispered into her ear, pushing his finger into her womanhood, earning a gasp and light shiver from Yui. "Just for today, stay, please?"
Oh, she hated it when he did it. Using sex as a weapon, as a persuasion, to get her to stay.
Reaching her hand to his neck, she pulled him down to meet her lips, kissing him hungrily as his movements in her womanhood became hornier…if that was a correct way to describe it.
"Sorry, but I can't," Yui spoke, not bothering to hold back her moans. "But we can do one more round, then I seriously have to go. You don't want to see the news of me being dead, do you?"
He sighed, seeing defeat in this matter, "That's good enough," he relented, proceeding on to pull her pants off so that he could enter her. "But one day I'm gonna make sure you're not going to leave until I let you."
She snorted, "Not gonna happen, at least not before graduation, baka."
"I wouldn't be so sure of it."
She cursed him for probably a hundred times, stopping in front of her uncle's front door before adjusting her school uniform. Yui knew that her uncle was fully aware of where she's been, or what she did, but even so, there was no need for everyone to know. Even if they did suspect it, judging from the way they eyed her.
"Yui?" She couldn't help but let out a squeal at the sudden call of her name, instantly turning around to see an amused looking Genji, and a pissed off one.
She blinked, "Yo, Gen-chan."
"What are you doing?" He asked as they both entered the Takiya family's property, eying her slightly nervous appearance with suspicion.
Yui gulped, "Um, making certain I would be presentable before telling Uncle I'm home?" She hoped that he would buy it, before remembering that she had blown Genji off for not going to meet him in the bar he likes to frequent.
He scoffed, "You didn't show up," trust the kid to point the obvious out. "Why?"
At this moment, Yui would've given anything to be back in the bed with her 'boyfriend' (or was it 'friend with benefits'?) just to get away from this questioning. If there was anyone Yui didn't want to know that she was fucking one of the top players in Suzuran, then it was Genji, considering that she knew why he had transferred over. Heck, almost every guy in Suzuran went there with one goal – to rule the school of crows.
Settling for a shrug, "I was busy."
"Busy doing what?"
They both nodded at the guards in the yard, passing her uncle's men without stopping for a chat. Genji had to admit that he had no idea what Yui was doing outside of school, outside of the home – in fact, he hardly knew anything about his cousin.
"None of ya business," Yui snapped, harsher than she intended. "Sorry for not answering your calls, like I said – I was busy."
He stared at her, doubt written in his eyes before shrugging. "Will you show up tomorrow?"
Genji had spoken just as Yui had opened the door to the house, making her stop and stare at him strangely. It wasn't anything new that he wanted to spend time with her, but usually, it wasn't in a public place, not anymore. Plus, she did have plans tomorrow….
"Sorry, maybe another time?" She suggested, smiling at her cousin as she followed him inside.
"You're busy tomorrow as well?" There was unusual bitterness in Genji's voice, Yui noticed, and yet, she nodded, sheepishly. However, before she could say anything, they could hear her uncle's (and Genji's father's) voice speaking up.
"You're fine the way you are. I was expecting you the way you are," they both stopped in front of the so-called living room, only to see her uncle with a woman, she's never seen before (and judging from the way Genji stared at the scene, it was the same with his case).
"Right, Reiko?"
The two of them were greeted by one of the bodyguards of Yui's uncle, unnecessary guiding them to the current leader of the Takiya family, who had, once again, brought over some girl (or as Yui liked to call them, a whore).
"Seiko," the woman tiredly corrected, probably feeling worse than she appeared to be, earning some sort of pity and sympathy from Yui once the niece of this Yakuza man noticed her; then again, there was an issue of her uncle never remembering any name of his sluts he brought over. "It's Seiko."
Yui shook her head, attempting to follow her cousin to the hallway which led to her room, wanting to do nothing more than to just sleep. She has had enough of activities today, perhaps tomorrow, she might be in the mood to deal with her Yakuza family and their problems.
"Boss…" The bodyguard interrupted as her uncle was about to say something else, Yui took a notice of her uncle crushing his dead cigarette before turning to look at them. She could still feel Genji giving her an annoyed glare, obviously not having bought her excuse of having blown him off completely. "Your son and niece are home."
Out of tradition, both Genji and Yui stopped in the doorway, letting her uncle know that they were indeed back at home, as well as stopping in case he had something to tell them (which Yui started to think was likely, especially considering that Genji had transferred over to Suzuran and that promise between the two).
"Excuse us, Reiko," her uncle dismissed the woman, who grabbed her bag and stood up from the leather couch, she had been sitting on.
The said slut (probably not the best way to call the woman, Yui dryly thought) was guided out of the house by the bodyguard, glancing briefly at the two Suzuran students. Yui noticed that the woman didn't even bother in correcting her uncle by calling her with a wrong name, even if it was by just one alphabet.
"How's Suzuran?" Her uncle spoke up as he started to take his socks off and poured a new glass of whiskey, briefly glancing at both his son and niece (as a way to let them know that it wasn't just directed at one of them). At the same time, Yui took a seat in one of the closest armchairs to the doorway, while Genji remained to stand, not forgetting to throw her an angry glare.
"How the hell should I know? I just started – Yui knows better," she glared at Genji for dragging her into the conversation, who glared back. She could clearly hear the bitterness in his voice as he spoke her name, making her inwardly curse everything about her cousin.
How long was he going to act like a kid, who was dumped by his favorite playmate?
"That tough guy act won't," Genji's father told him, just as his bodyguard returned to the living room, before taking a large sip of his whisky. "Fly there, you know. Unlike you, Yui's already secured her position in Suzuran and has said to be fine with where she is."
Couldn't they stop dragging her into this conversation?
"Advice from a guy, who couldn't conquer it," Genji pointed out, something that was highly rude and unnecessary to remind them, especially, if Yui took into consideration that his own father was the one, who gave Genji the goal to become the top of Suzuran. She knew that if her mother and aunt would still be alive, both of them would most likely murder her uncle, only to resurrect and then do it again.
Both women had hated any stories of Suzuran, whenever their husbands would tell stories to the younger Genji and Yui. It had been her personal amusement, watching as two women shut their husbands (who were both in Yakuza) up with a simple glare or a warning of sending them to couch for a few nights.
"Waka," the bodyguard stepped in, bowing respectfully, before continuing. He was always the pain in the ass – making certain that he fulfilled her mother's last wish in making certain that Yui would have a good future (although, he's already failed in that one by not doing anything that stopped her from going to Suzuran). "Please watch your tongue."
And he was way too loyal to her uncle, which was both a good and a bad thing (good – he wouldn't betray her uncle, even if his life was on the stake; and the bad thing was he wouldn't do anything to give favors to Yui, should she ever want to sneak out during her punishments, and he wouldn't stay silent about her frequent visitor).
"I'm not you," Genji spoke up, making Yui roll her eyes in annoyance. "I'm going to succeed." Yeah right, Gen-chan – do you even have any idea, who the top players are in Suzuran?
"Exactly what a father hopes for his son," her uncle said, making Yui feel as if he wasn't all too serious while sitting on the massage bed.
"Then I'll take over the business as you promised."
"That would be something," her uncle said, Yui could hardly hold back her snort. "First winning Suzuran, then succeeding me in the organization?"
"Don't forget those words," Genji said, wanting to demand his rights as the heir to the family business. "I'm going to do better than you."
This time Yui indeed snorted as she thought of Tamao, Shun, Hayashida Megumi, and other forces in Suzuran of whom her cousin has no idea about, at least not yet. It was going to be far more difficult than he thought it would, even Yui had difficulties in attaining her position and it hadn't been without help (no matter how little that help had been). She watched as Genji almost stormed away to his bedroom, imagining her uncle laughing with a huge smile.
It was no secret that her uncle doubted Genji's succession in this quest, and to be frank – Yui doubted it as well, knowing full well how of much of a monster Tamao and Megumi could be when they went all out, even Shun was a dangerous man when threatened. Tokaji would without a doubt do anything to crush any enemy to Serizawa Fraction by using his usual dirty methods and Tokio would feel a bit guilty in not staying in touch with Genji, especially when he wouldn't betray Tamao. So, there, Gen-chan – you shouldn't boast about succeeding in something you have no idea about.
"Yui," her uncle addressed her just as she was about to retreat to her own room, which was close to Genji's, making her stop and glance at her uncle curiously. "Do you think he'll succeed in conquering Suzuran?" Ah, so that's his concerns this time.
She shrugged, "Dunno, perhaps."
"Haven't those three years in Suzuran given you nothing, Yui? No idea of the Crows Hierarchy?"
Was he really suggesting her to help Genji by betraying those she was friends with? Was he really asking her to tell them everything she knows about Suzuran's hierarchy?
She smirked, making certain to make it as sweet as possible (her way to let her uncle know what she thought of such a suggestion), "I do, but it wouldn't be fair if I made it easier for Gen-chan, would it, Uncle?"
He turned around to give her an amused look. They both knew that Yui was more aware of the world he lived in, more so than Genji was – she had witnessed firsthand the consequences of what happened to the people associated with Yakuza or even lived such a life. Something she couldn't understand Genji wanting to go through with – Yui knew that as soon as she was an adult, she would leave the house and never look back.
She would cut off her ties with Yakuza and live a normal life with no violence or crime involved, preferably with a 'normal civilian' husband of hers (such a dream was a bit further into the future, but a dream nevertheless).
"Besides, as you said – I am happy to be the bystander in Suzuran, picking no side, no matter who it is."
With that said, Yui turned around and walked away from her uncle and bodyguard, in a relatively bad mood, already regretting not staying with her friend with benefits. However, before she could walk away from hearing her uncle's hearing distance, she could hear him saying – "…Keep an eye on him, Yui. You know he needs an insider to help him."
Not that I need you to tell me what to do, uncle.
