I looked nervously down at my phone. The screen reflected off my face with a soft glow. I had gotten an alert a few minutes ago, and upon checking it, dread bubbled up inside me. The weather app informed me that a nasty storm was coming within the next few hours. It would last for the rest of the night, and well into tomorrow, if it was to be believed.

I bit my lower lip as I put my phone down, moving to see out the window. As of right now, it was sunny. Not a fluffy white cloud to be seen, or a dark gray one either. I breathed a short sigh of relief, hoping the report would be wrong, and nothing would hit us. Weather apps could never be fully trusted.

"Are you alright, Mike?"

I jumped at the soft voice, having not expected it. I looked up to see my girlfriend standing in the doorway leading into the living room. Her dark brown hair was damp from her shower, and I could smell the chimerical from where I was sitting. She was dressed in her normal outfit; a long red dress that reached down to her knees. She wore matching crimson heels to go with the simple wear.. Her dark auburn eyes looked into my blue ones.

"Yeah, I'm okay, Mia."

"You're a terrible liar, you know that?"

I winced. "Is it that easy to tell?"

Mia gestured to my fingers that were tapping against my knee. I stopped myself as soon as I noticed, cursing under my breath. Damn nervous tick giving me away like that, of course she'd know. We were dating, and she had been able to pick up on my habits very quickly into our relationship. Something I both loved and hated. It was hard to hide anything from her. She always found out one way or another what was going on, no matter how big or small the situation happened to be at the time.

"So, what's troubling you this time?"

"What doesn't trouble me?"

"Very funny Mike. Now out with it."

I sighed, knowing there was no point in trying to argue with her. She wouldn't let me, even if I tried. Something I both loved and hated about her. She was so caring, always looking out for me. It made my heart flutter at the thought. What would I do without her?

"I was… looking at the weather."

"And?"

"...And it's going to storm later."

"Aw, babe, it's going to be okay. You know as well as I do that the damn app can't be trusted all the time. No need to work yourself up over something that might not even happen."

"But what if it does?"

"We're gotten through storms before," Mia said. "We will with this one too."

"But—"

"I know it's scary, babe. But it'll be okay. I'll be here with you if it does happen. I won't leave your side."

"….Promise?"

"I promise." She walked over, giving me a kiss on the lips. Sparks exploded as soon as her lips touched mine, and I swore I saw stars. My girlfriend pulled away, laughing at my love dazed look. "You're so cute when you're under my love spell."

"I am not—"

"Yes, you are, honey."

"I'll show you who's cute!"

I pulled her into a warm embrace, kissing her soft lips a second time. She laughed briefly against mine, before returning the gesture. At some point, I found myself pinned under her, staring into her eyes. She smirked down at me, leaning down to my ear, her warm breath sending shivers down my spine.

"You were saying, dear?"

I pouted up at her, but that was forgotten as she kissed me a third time. I melted under her touch, becoming nothing but putty in her hands. I gave myself over to her, allowing her to do whatever she wanted with me.

"How about we take your pretty mind off that storm?" Mia suggested, her tone implying she had thoughts in mind on how to do that.

I nodded eagerly, getting another laugh out of my girlfriend.

"So eager… Alright, be a good boy, and let's have some fun."

The two of us were sitting on the couch, having just finished dinner. Mia had me wrapped around her arms, resting against her chest. I closed my eyes, listening to the soft hum of the TV, and the gentle rhythmic sound of her breathing. The sounds drifted in and out as I dozed on and off, feeling drained.

"Did I tucker you out that much?"

"Mhm…" I hummed lightly in response.

"Aww… Who knew you couldn't handle a bit of fun, babe."

I opened my mouth to make a retort back, when the living room lit up with a flash of blue. Shortly following, the apartment shook from a loud roar of thunder. I squealed in fright, the sassy remark dying from my throat as terror set in. Mia jumped as well, having not expected the lightning or thunder.

"So much for it not storming," she hissed.

A whimper tore from my throat as I buried my face against her. Mia rubbed circles along my back with her hand, before pulling me closer with her free one. Once done, that hand went to gently comb through my hair.

"It's alright, Mike… It's going to be okay."

Mia's voice took on a soft tone as she held me close to her. Her hand brushed through my hair, combing through the short, spiky blue locks. Her other hand rubbed circles against my back, trying to get me to focus on something else.

"I got you. You know that."

I did. She wouldn't let anything happen to me, and she wasn't about to leave my side while a storm was raging outside. I squeaked when lightning lit up the apartment again, wrapping my arms around her as though my life depended on her.

"Shh.. It's alright love."

Was it? I wanted to say something, but the words refused to come. All that came from my throat were pitiful whimpers. Mia didn't say a word about them, only continued to try to keep me calm.

We stayed like that for hours, with her trying her best to help me through my fear. She never once laughed or judged me for being afraid over storms. The demon went out of her way to comfort me, and support me throughout the whole event. I couldn't, and would never, ask for a better girlfriend.

"Mike?"

"Y-Yeah?" I stuttered out, voice shaking from the terror still pooling over me, despite her best efforts to help.

"I can use my powers on you to help you, if you want."

I lifted my head to stare into her auburn eyes. "W-What?"

Mia nodded. "Only if you want to, babe. I can cast a sleeping spell on you, and you'll fall asleep. The storm shouldn't bother you after that. You'll be totally out of it until I wake you up again."

"... And it will help?"

"It should. I'm not as advanced as my parents, but it should be enough. It's your call, though. I'll never do anything to you without your permission."

I nodded. She was right. She wouldn't do anything if I didn't want it. The only way she would if it was to save my life, or I was too out of it to give her permission. But those were the extremes.

"Let's… try it."

"...Are you sure, babe?"

Another flash of lightning lit up the apartment, and shortly after that, thunder crashed against the sky, strong enough that it shook our home. I shrieked, latching onto her as though she was the only thing keeping me alive. Mia held me just as tight, whispering comforting words in my ear. I calmed down a bit, and once I did, I spoke.

"Y-Yeah, I'm sure. Please, honey—"

"Alright."

She removed one of her hands from me. It began to glow, a soft red in hue. I stared up at her, wondering what to expect. She had never done anything like this to me before, but if it was going to help me, I was going to take it. I didn't want to spend the rest of the night in fear, and my girlfriend needing to comfort me like she was. At least she could keep me asleep until it was over, and who knew, maybe for once I'd wake up feeling refreshed.

Mia waved her hand over me, showering me in the crimson light. "Sleep."

My eyes began to fill heavy. I blinked a few times against the sudden pull, having not expected it to be so strong. However, given I had already been exhausted before the storm began, it did help much quicker than it would have without that fact. If I had to guess. I was no demon, just a human. This was beyond my control.

The lull of sleep washed over me, and I was out before I even went limp in my girlfriend's arms.

"Wake up, Mike."

My eyes fluttered open at her command. I blinked, my mind hazy from the sleep spell. I sat up groggily, a bit sluggish. I rubbed at my eyes to wake myself up more. Trying to clear my blurry vision, I saw that I was still in Mia's arms, and she looked down at me with a little concern.

"Are you okay?"

"Mhm…"

She laughed softly. "Can't speak yet?"

"I just woke up—"

"I know, I'm messing with you, babe."

"Is the storm over?"

"Ended a few hours ago. I let you sleep longer. Looked like you needed it. And—" Mia grinned, and I knew I was in for it. "—you were so cute sleeping. I couldn't wake you up."

I pouted at her. She let out another laugh, leaning down to kiss on my lips. Heat rose to my face, earning yet another chuckle from the demoness.

"You're so cute, Mike."

"I am not Mia."

"Yes, you are," she said in a sing-song tone. "Now, how's about some breakfast?"

"Sounds good to me…"

"Then we can go on a date today."

I perked up. "A date?"

"Yep!" Mia moved me off her, carefully allowing me to rest against the couch. "But first, food. I'm going to make your favorite. Sit tight, love."

She left for the kitchen, and I sighed, sinking back into the couch. I still felt tired, despite having gotten some good sleep from the spell. I could see my girlfriend moving around, getting things ready to bake. She looked back, and catching my eye, she winked at me. As my eyes drifted close a second time, I smiled.
