I had to edit a little mistake on my part, I had calculated the wrong date.

Chapter 2: Welcome to the Enterprise

USS Enterprise-D, Ready Room, Stardate 41191,8

Within the ready Room sat Captain Picard and dictating a log. „Computerlog of the Enterprise, Captain Picard, Stardate 41191,8. We have left Deneb IV almost 7 days ago. Even though we have overcome the test of the being Q, I'm still worried. Mankind was judged but the judgment was never given. With all the power Q has shown, I fear the day when he does."

„Computer end Log." Suddenly Lieutenant Worf's voice was being heard. „Bridge to Captain Picard." „Picard here." „Captain, we got just a message from Starbase 473, we have new order to travel to a nearby star system and look for the science ship Tsiolkovsky, it seems there have been some problems." „Do it so, lieutenant." „Yes sir." And it was quiet again. Picard leaned back in his chair and began to turn to the small window, to look at the stars.

Suddenly there was a bright light and I said on one of the guest chairs and Q on the other. „Whoever said the test was over Jean-Luc, only the first part is done." Picard almost jumped off his chair. „Q! Captain Picard to security, intruder alarm." I just rolled my eyes. 'Of course, nothing happens.' "Q, what are you doing here?"

"Mon Capitaine, I already said it, the first part of the test may be done, but the second part begins now." "Q please, would you not call me a test? It sounds so impersonal." I turned to the Captain. „Captain Picard, my name is Michael Kane, a human. It's nice to meet you, even though the circumstances." I pointed my eyes to Q. "Who is now impersonal."

Picard was just sitting in his chair with slightly widened eyes, not believing that someone, a human, could behave so 'humanly' with Q. "Nevermind, let's come back to the topic, we wanna see how you will treat and attend to a lost soul."

Q was about to snap his fingers. "Oh Q before you go, could you please change my clothes to something more stylish? I'm really no fan of these pyjama uniform combinations." Q did grin and then snapped with his fingers and disappeared in white light. The next moment it was only Picard now much calmer and me in a new outfit. Black boots, black pants, a white shirt and a black leather jacket.

"You can say about Q what you want, but he certainly has style." I inhaled a little, leaned back and looked at Captain Picard. "Well, here we are."One moment of quiet staring at each other. "Captain if you want to call security I'm sure they will react now." Another moment of silence. "Or you could ask the questions that are burning in your mind."

For a while nothing happened, Picard made his typical thinking pose and looked at me. Then suddenly he stand up and went to the Replicator. "Earl Grey tea, hot." seeing a replicator at work on tv and in reality are two completely different things, it had something magical about how the tea was created.

"You also want something?" Picard asked when he took out his tea and just for a moment I hesitated, but I think it was enough for him. "Erm, yeah, white tea with a drop of orange juice." Picard did the order and when it was replicated he gave me the tea. Afterward, he went back to his chair. "Now then Mr. Kane, you already told me you were human, but I would guess not from my earth, that would be too easy."

I did smile at that, Picard was shown at that moment in the series still as a little impatient and short-tempered, but in reality, this man has reached the rank of captain. Something only very few managed and already have been for a few years. This man had experience and quite the mind.

"And you would be correct. I was born July, 11th 1991, in Berlin Germany and died January the 1st 2023, in London Britain and from what Q told me in another reality." "Europe, how did you survive the Eugenics Wars and WW3?" I made a surprised face and pulled my right Eyebrow up. "Seems like my Timeline was much more peaceful than I thought. That what you called Eugenic Wars never happened in my reality and WW3 didn't happen, yet at least."

Suddenly a beeping sounds and I recognize it as the typical doorbell in Star Trek. I looked at Picard and couldn't stop myself. "You're expecting someone?" Picard grinned a bit at this old joke. "No, not this late." Then he turned to the door. "Enter!"

The Door to the bridge opened and Counselor Troi and Commander Data come in. "Captain is everything alright?" "I'm sorry sir for the late intrusion, but I'm pretty sure I felt Q once again on the ship, only a short while ago. I wanted to inform you but couldn't reach you about the intern com, even though he is gone now."

"Felt?" I saw to Picard, but he made just a hand sign to wait for a second. " Q was here Counselor and he made sure that we weren't disturbed during our talk." While Counselor Troi almost didn't seem to register my presence Data had watched me the whole time "Captain may I ask what Q wanted and who your guest is?" With that Troi looked at me for the first time with wide eyes.

"Q informed me Commander that the test for humanity is not over and brought Michael Kane here on board, as part of it. He wanted to see how we react to and I quote, a lost soul." I had to correct Picard at One point. "They, Captain, they wanted to see." Picard hesitated for a moment and his face twisted thoughtfully.

While Picard pondered, I stood up and nodded to Data. "Commander." Next, I grinned at Troi. "Counselor." I kissed her Hand. "I am delighted to meet you." Data is blinking like he was always doing in the show when in a situation he couldn't comprehend and Troi was taken back. "Uhm, thank you."

Picard showed one of his grins. "Counselor, Commander would you please bring our guest to the sick bay, so that he can be given the standard medical scans and let it confirm that he is from an alternative timeline. Afterward, give him one of the guest quarters, he probably will be a while on our ship." "Yes Sir." "Aye Captain."

"Mr. Kane, please follow my officers, so that we can get done with the necessities. Also, I would like to officially welcome you on board the Enterprise and hope that we can continue our talk at a later date." I answer with a nod. "I would like that and a nice evening Captain." "Thank you, you too." I looked to Troi. "This way please." and she went through the door and I followed her with Data behind me.

And Suddenly I was there on the bridge of the Enterprise-D. For any other sci-fi nerd or Star Trek fan in general it would have been the moment when they lost it. But in my case, there were a few reasons why I stayed in control. First, I had time to prepare. Second, even though Star Trek was a great show, it was never in my top3 Scifi shows. And finally, even though the bridge of the Enterprise-D had a good structure it had not the feeling of an explorer ship, for me, it always felt more like the bridge of a luxury liner.

Nevertheless, I stood there for a moment and took everything in. First of all, the lights and the unknown officers on the bridge showed me it was the night shift. The people on shift looked at me for a moment, after all, they never saw me going into the ready room. But since Commander Data and Counsilor Troi were with me, without drawn weapons, they were calm still interested, and then the moment was over.

Troi turned to her left and the door to the turbo lift opened and we stepped in. "Sickbay." "So, Mr. Kane, what kinda 'lost soul' are you?" I gave Troi a generous smile. "Please, Michael is enough and from what Q told me, I'm a time-traveling reality-jumping human." Troi is doubtfully staring at me. "You are human?"

"That is the thing you can't accept as the truth?" Troi looks a little sheepish. "Well, I'm part Betazoid. Through that an empath and well I don't feel anything from you. The only other being that I ever met like that was Commander Data."

"Well I can't talk for the Commander, but as far as Q told me, he protected my mind from outside influences. That seems to include being felt by an empath." she is looking at me again, "Ah, okay, by the way, if I can call you Michael you can call me Diana." I looked at her once again. "Gladly, Diana." This time I managed to get Diana to blush a little. The rest of the ride went by quietly.

Ready Room

Picard was sitting in his chair, thinking about his last encounter with Q and the talk with Kane. "Computer, inquiry, what are pyjamas?"

"Pyjama, originally Legwears from India of the 17th Century. Later began to be known as a form of Nightwear, in Britain, in the late 19th Century. Between the mid-20th Century till the late 21st Century, it was almost worldwide known and worn. But to the end of its popularity, it was mostly used by Kids and was seen by most grown-ups as quite unattractive, Pictures enclosed."

Picard looked at a few examples and then closed the display. Stood up, went to the mirror in the ready room and begins to pull on his uniform. "Hm, maybe I should send Star Fleet a recommendation to change the uniforms."

Sickbay

Similar to Captain Picard also Doctor Crusher was still at work. A new Station on a new ship, the first few weeks are always filled with more work than usual. Suddenly the door opens and Kane together with Diana and Data came in. "Ah, you must be our new guest, the captain already informed me about your unusual arrival, I'm Doctor Crusher."

I stepped closer to the Doc. "Alright then Doc, what should I do, shall I take off my clothes?" I asked with a grin on my face. "If you want to, but no that won't be necessary. I will just make some scans first and then we will see." I could be wrong, but I thought I saw for a moment disappointment on Diana's face.

Doctor Crusher begins to use her medical scanner to scan my body, beginning with my chest up to my head and down to my nether regions. From time to time she lets out a, "Hm." because of thoughtfulness. It seems like she scanning most areas double and more.

"So Doc, how long do I have to live?" Doctor Crusher stops scanning suddenly. "Oh no, that is not the reason it went that long. I just had to do a lot of different scans and sometimes one scan led to another."

Then she put the medical scanner away. "At least for now, I can with certainty say, that yes you are a time traveler and you are not from our universe." "Oh, you can determine that?" "Yes, Starfleet had already encounters with both and we learned what to look for. But the oddities didn't end there. Your metabolism is working a lot faster than that of a normal human, you are almost five times stronger and your Brain works at a speed I don't want even to guess. Also, it seems like your cell regeneration is over the top and goes down to your DNA, it's very unlikely that you will die of old age."

Commander Data is stepping closer. "How is that, possible Doctor?" Doctor Crusher looks at Commander Data. "Well, from what my test can confirm. Mr. Kanes seemed to have undergone a rather amazing amount of successful genetic resequencing, from a purely medical perspective I couldn't help but be in awe. It's a work of art, a masterpiece of genetic engineering. But the most interesting fact would be that from everything that I can see is that those changes happened when his body was already fully grown."

"I have to ask that Doctor, is he a danger to the ship?" "Danger?" I look at the Doc. "Genetic engineering as it happened to you is known as augmentation and it's highly illegal in our time. For you Commander, his mental stability is good, he is not more dangerous than a Vulcan." Commander Data nodded to that.

I turned to Diana. "Illegal?" "In human History, what was later known as Eugenic Wars, was it where a bunch of augmented humans, who called themself fittingly Augments. Created a fascistic regime and killed a lot of not augmented people, more even then the two previous Wars combined." "So because a few have done a lot of bad things, everyone else of the same kind also gets punished, doesn't sound right to me." Diana grimaces but nods. She would lie if she said she hadn't had similiar thoughts in the past.

Doctor Crusher turned once again to me. "Apart from what was already mentioned, you are quite healthy. Your immune system is so advanced that most immunization should be unnecessary. I would even go that far and say that you probably never will get sick." "Cool."

Doctor Crusher puts away her Scanner and takes a Hypospray. "With your permission, I would like to have a sample of your blood." "Sure." And with that, she holds the hypospray at my neck and with a little sting the sample was taken. "Thank you, we are done here."

After that, I went again to Diana and Data. "Commander Data will now show you to your quarters. I excuse myself. It is quite late and I would like to go to bed." "Of Course Conselor." "Have a nice evening, Diana." She nods to me, then I follow Data out of the sick bay.

Once Michael and Data left the sick bay, Counselor Troi turned to Doctor Crusher. "Doctor, did you find anything particularly strange in his brain scans." Doctor Crusher pulled up one of her eyebrows. "Except that his brain is more active and reacts faster than any other brain I have ever seen, no, why?" "I'm not able to feel him, he said that Q protected his mind from manipulation and I wondered if there was a biological basis for it." "I see, well I did a fairly superficial scan. With a more in-depth scan, I could find more, but for that, I would need his consent. But who knows, maybe the activity of his brain is enough to create a shield against psychic powers, an ability every human has, but normally has no access to."

"Nevermind, for now, it is really quite late. I go to sleep, good night doctor." "Good Night Counsilor" Diana leaves the sick bay at last.
