Derek refused to let Simon drive even though we had been going for hours and he was exhausted. We all were exhausted, no one had gotten proper sleep since Aunt Lauren showed up. Finally when Derek could barely keep his eyes open, we convinced him to stop at a motel for the night. I used some of Tess' cash to pay for it, getting the cheapest room I could that would fit us all. Two twins and some extra pillows and blankets.
Derek took the bed closer to the door, Simon's bed was almost against the window. Simon crashed the moment he sat on the bed. Derek tried to get me to come to bed but I told him I wanted to shower first. It wasn't untrue, I really needed one. I still hadn't cleaned up from changing and I stunk of sweat and blood. But I also knew I was in for a rough night no matter how exhausted I was, so I was trying to delay that as long as I could.
I got in the shower, humming to myself as I lathered up my hair. I thought about Liz and Kyle, where were they now? Would they still be at the building I sent the ghosts to or could they leave? I thought about summoning them to check on them, but I was in the shower. Ghost or not I didn't want them to see me naked.
After some time, the water was starting to cool down and I knew it was time to get out. I had scrubbed every inch of myself clean, there was no more excuses. I stepped out and dried myself off with the towel. Wrapping it around myself while I opened the backpack. Tess had taken her time to make sure I had a variety of things. I should do something to thank her after this is all over.
I grabbed my pajamas and put them on, towel dried my hair some more, then stepped back out into the room. Derek was asleep now too. I took the extra pillows and blankets we got and set up camp between the two beds. Knowing Derek would throw a fit about me sleeping on the floor tomorrow but I needed the space to toss and turn without waking him up.
Sighing, I laid down and stared at the ceiling until I drifted off to sleep.
I was standing in the bathroom at the Lyle House. Gripping the counter. My nails sharpened into claws. I watched my eyes glow bright yellow and my teeth fell out. Replaced by sharp fangs. My socks tore as my toenails sharpened into claws. I watched my skin crawl and move on it's own.
I was racing through woods as fast as I could chasing a deer. I jumped over logs and dashed around trees, quick on my feet. Four feet… A black furred wolf caught up to me, determined to catch the deer before me. I growled at him and he skidded to a sudden halt. I threw myself to the side to not crash into him. The black wolf turned around slowly, growling. Eyes red with anger and hatred. He took a step towards me ready to attack.
I gasped for breath in the dusty crawl space. A skeleton held me down. It got closer and closer to my face as the match in my hand faded.
"You're going to die here with me," it said and started cackling.
On and on the nightmares went through the night. I tried my best to keep telling myself they weren't real, but it was getting harder and harder. My nerves were shot, everything felt like it was really out to get me. None of this was in my imagination. I was seeing everything that ever terrified me.
"Chloe?" A voice rang through the hallway. I looked up from my notebook.
"Mom?" I choked.
She rounded the corner and stood in the doorway smiling.
"There you are sweetie, I've been looking everywhere for you."
I looked around, I was in my old bedroom. Everything was exactly the same as I remembered it.
"I've been right here," I told her.
She walked up to me and wrapped me up in a hug. Placing a kiss on my forehead.
"I just missed you Chloe."
I hugged her back, "I missed you too Mom."
The dream faded and I fell into a deep sleep, finally getting some peace and rest.
I woke up to the sound if a car door shutting. I groggily opened my eyes to find Kyle a foot from my face.
"Ayyyy! She's alive!" He shouted.
"Shhh," Liz shushed him. Trying to pull him back from my face even though ghosts can't touch.
