Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of the Roots and the Rock. Enjoy the 2000-word chapter. I don't own RWBY. Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth do.

He glanced around, too interested in what was to come. It had been a hopeful day, an odd one, but still hopeful enough to where he had time.

It was weird to marvel at what was coming and how to deal with this plan to stop Salem from destroying Atlas. Every soldier knew what was coming if it wasn't for the fact that something was coming, something insane that he couldn't comprehend.

It had been odd. She was coming to lay waste to all of Atlas, all of what they wished to know as of the second. The very city where there had been so many problems that had made him curious about what to do next at the second.

"We're going to be a war sooner or later," Atem stated before he tilted his head and sighed, and looked around before he glanced around. "I'm going to guess that there are soldiers all over the place," Atem stated before he tilted his head.

He sighed and looked at Gust, he was curious as of the second. He was going to be ready for something to happen when it comes down to it. He rubbed his temples before he looked around the room. He was curious about what the General wanted to do next.

"We need to be handling more problems when it comes down to it. Yeah, that's the most logical thing on the brain, deal with something we have no idea what to do about." Atem stated before he sighed to himself. "I'm sure glad that there are about a thousand different officers who have that problem rather than me," Atem said as he rolled his eyes towards himself and looked far more interested in the wall panel.

He tilted his head as he realized just how screwed they may be at the time. there was a lot more on the line than just a few soldiers, they had an entire kingdom to protect and yet we're fighting an entire empire of Grimm.

Then again? It wasn't his place to debate tactics, nor to decide the strategies used to overcome their enemies. That belonged truly to the officers in charge of the entire kingdom. He was just a soldier. One of many, yes, but still just a soldier all the same and that meant he had a lot of work to do on the frontlines.

His thoughts shifted towards the Ace-Ops. They were a tough group, one who could handle dozens of Grimm and probably Salem's inner circle if they managed to get in close. Still? They were not the only ones who were dangerous on the battlefield. There was a limit on their ammo, their aura, hell, even their stamina purely. The Grimm didn't have this weakness when it came to battle.

He knew this, and he expected Ironwood had to know it as well. There was no other reason why he wouldn't at the time. Elm and her team had been interesting when it came down to it. There were going to be more problems that had made him curious, and hopeful that he could handle this problem.

He rubbed at his temples before he sighed and looked around the room. He was going to be prepared for the enemy, but he'd be in the middle of a thunderstorm while he sighed.

He was honestly curious as to what the hell the Ace Ops was going to be deployed to question this as of the second before, he sighed as he sat back and slowly slid off the bed.

He looked out the window before he sighed as he started to question what to do next.

"There's going to be hell to pay as of the second. Salem will be here sooner or later." Atem said before he tilted his head to the side and seemed to glance out the window.

Yes, something was coming, something odd. It had been far too weird for him to ignore at the time. there was only so much that Atlas could attend to without compromising themselves. It made him wonder what would happen if they hadn't been on the frontlines so often, could they help?

It seemed so odd to him to ask that question considering the fact they were helping or trying to. They were on the frontlines of a war. Their resources were limited, they had been pressed into a wall, trying to force them back like this? Well, it bodes very poorly for the rest of the world.

He sighed and looked around. There was an odd silence that had spread across the room. This place felt less like a home and more of a tomb. It felt as if it was going to crush her entirely.

He leaned on the wall and looked down at the snowy landscape of the city. There were so many places for criminals to hide, clambering through the dank alleyways and all of the city.

Well, he found it to be a lot more powerful than he had a few times. There was so much on his mind, so much to say and do that he felt as if he'd snap.

Atem snapped up his scroll and looked through it. A new message from one officer and something in a few days from General Ironwood. He saved the message and sighed to himself. He'd pout and complain about times later.

Still? Anything else was an odd problem for another time. A better time. there was going to be odd when it came down to it. There was a lot more on the time. It'd a lot be more curious as of the second.

Well at least, it would be if he didn't have the need to scream and question everything... he already had too much on his plate, the idea they were recruiting him into the Ace-Ops or who had wanted to was terrifying to him. He wanted to get onto the mission and he'd damn well get it done before today was done.

He rolled his eyes himself and set about focusing on everything else. They would have more important duties. He was a mere soldier, not someone who could change the very landscape of the wat itself. Atlas needed someone who could handle the war on a more proper level, anything else was just sad or pathetic compared to what Salem could throw their way.

Still? It had been something that had interested him and pulled him in deeper and deeper if he was honest. The idea of them needing some of the best soldiers in Atlas was terrifying. How badly were they losing to the need to recruit better soldiers?

How hard had they been hit to warrant this type of tactic? It had been something that would make the brass happy unless they were damn desperate to handle this as properly and as without fallout as possible. It explained so much as of the second.

He'd be more curious if he didn't want to know what had pushed them into the corner this way. The second they needed him, he'd come, but nothing more was to come.

"There's going to going to be more soldiers on the frontline either way. It isn't like I'm going to be some super perfect soldier." Atem stated before he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.

There was more on this that had been interested before it came down to it. He was curious as of the second as to what the hell had been going on.

There was more that was going to come down. Atem knew that the soldiers would need to be better, there would need to be upgraded at the time. this had been a lot more interested as of the second.

This war was going to consume all of Atlas. It had been interesting as of the time, but there were going to be more battles to fight and he damn well knew that something was coming either way.

"She's going to bring some big army to the shores of Atlas, rain down fire on every single little piece of the city. We both know that this is going to suck more than anything." Atem stated before he hummed to himself, looking out the window while he sighed himself.

(With Elm)

Elm sighed and kicked her feet up on her bed. She left Timber under the bed before running a hand across her face as she seemed to question what to say or do next. It had made her a lot more curious as to what to as of the moment. She knew that Clover had arranged a meeting with General Ironwood for tomorrow that they all had to attend, even if they didn't need to for the moment being. It had to be done before long. There was a lot more on the line if they failed when it came down to it.

She hummed to herself before this came down to it. She knew that something was going to happen sooner or later. It had a lot more on the line than this. The Ace-Ops were going to need to be ready sooner or later. It'd be horrid sooner or later.

It had been a lot more interesting as of the second. She had a lot more on the training when this ended. It'd be a harder battle than he expected.

This was going to end one way or another. It ended today before anything else happened. It'd be a pain, but she could handle it before too long. She just needed some time and effort to handle that at the moment. It was going to be a lot curious as of the second.

Still? if she needed something from when it came down to it. There was a lot more she didn't know what to feel when it came down to it. she wasn't going to back down to it. there was only something that could stop it and yet nothing was standing in the way of say mission. Nothing was stopping them and she doubted anything would stand in their way for the moment. It had to end sooner or later.

She hummed and crossed her arms across her chest. There was only so much that could be said or done. It had to be done one way or another.

Still? There was too much on the line for this to handle when it came down to it. There was simply too much for them to not back down and look at the situation when it came down to it. there was a lot more on the mind, more they couldn't handle before now. It'd be something new when it came down to it, something that couldn't be understated as of the time… Yes, it was to be something grand and horrid at the same time. it couldn't be underlined how bad things would be if they weren't easily beating this problem down to the wire. There was something in the way before now. It'd be a lot harder when it came down to it.

She hummed before he clicked his fingers against the side once more. It had been a lot more hopeful while he questioned before this came down to it.

He had been a lot harder when it came down to it. there was more to handle as of the second. He'd be a lot more curious.

Author Notes

Phew. Another chapter is done! I want to point out that the next chapter will be in 2-10 months and will show both Elm and Atem talking and setting up the villain when it comes down to it. The next chapter will be 900-6500 words as of the time when it came down to it. The next chapter will be a bit delayed before when it came down to it. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
