I don't know if we expected Derek to be there or not but when we showed back up to the motel, he was gone. The room was destroyed too. Derek must have changed, the beds were shredded, the nightstand was on the opposite side of the room. We found claw marks on the bathroom wall. Whatever Derek did, he did it angry.

"He is going to murder you," I said, picking up the things that were torn from my backpack.

Simon nodded, "You've got that right."

I pulled out my phone and a piece of paper.

"What are you doing?" Simon asked.

"Calling Matt. Vampire hunter or just a guy, we need an unbiased hand figuring out what to do. Somethings just not settling right about earlier. And now we have Derek to worry about, is he racing to the Alpha right now?"

"Good point," Simon nodded.

I dialed the number, a very hushed voice came over the other end.

"Who is this?"

"Chloe and Simon."

"Where's Derek?" Matt asked.

"That's why we need your help," I explained. "How good are you at tracking? We lost him."

"That really needs to be done in person not over the phone but I can give you some tips," Matt said.

"I'll take what I can get."

"Where are you now?"

"Motel room."

"Can you tell where they left? Through the halls or out a window or?"

We looked around, the room didn't have a balcony, his only way out was through the door.

"Door," Simon said.

"Ok, start following."

We grabbed our bags and stepped out into the hall.

"What's the closest exit out of the building?"

We walked around until we found a door that lead outside.

"Ok, what are you walking out to?"

"It's a side door, it's just a sidewalk out to the parking lot."

"It really depends on when he left but he might not be far. He would know better than to go walking around in that much open area. Check any bushes or whatnot that line the parking lot. Call me back."

Matt hung up. I looked at Simon, it was good news and bad news that Derek wasn't far. Good that we'd find him quicker, bad that we'd face his wrath quicker.

We walked the parking lot edge and couldn't find anything in the bushes. Not even a sign of him having been there.

I tried calling Matt back but he didn't answer.

"I guess phobia of electronics is getting to him," I shrugged stashing the phone back in my pocket.

"Let's just take a minute to regroup," Simon was frustrated.

He started walking back to the car, I followed. I went to the passenger side to get in when I heard the sound of something hitting the ground.

I let go of the door handle, "Simon? What was that?"

No answer. I walked around to find Simon on the ground and Derek on top of him. The car door was wide open. Derek must have circled back and waited for us.

"Derek!" I shouted rushing up.

Derek's fist connected with the side of Simon's face. I grabbed his arm and hung on.

"Let go," Derek growled.

"Don't hurt him!"

"Let go!" Derek roared again.

I held onto him like a stubborn child. Derek swung his arm backwards instead, catching me by surprise and sending me into the open car door.

Derek's fist connected with Simon again. I screamed. I don't know what was going through my head, was I trying to attract strangers attention? Or was I just having a mental breakdown? I just screamed.

Derek whipped around and got in my face. Simon took advantage of the distraction to get to his feet and back up.

"If you don't shut the hell up-" Derek roared.

But I didn't, I continued to scream. That is, until Derek grabbed me. He grabbed the front of my shirt and picked me up off the ground. I felt a wave of fear as my feet lost contact with the ground. Before I could react, I was in the far back of the car with the wind knocked out of me. Derek threw me into the car.

He turned and went after Simon again. But not to hit him, to yell. Derek ripped into Simon calling him some very creative names. Simon stood there and took it, letting Derek run through his rage before he ever said a word. My ears were ringing still slightly so I couldn't hear what he said over Derek's yelling. Derek didn't seem to care about what Simon had to say. The only sentence he stopped and listened to was "Chloe had nothing to do with it."

We were sitting in the car now, in dead silence. Derek was driving us back to Tess'. He never asked where we had been or what we had done.

I closed my eyes, my whole body ached from Derek and Nate. I did my best to tune out the pain but it was difficult.

After awhile, I opened my eyes and looked at Derek. Handing me back over to Aunt Lauren was the ultimate pushing me away. Derek could only trust Derek so he needed to sit on his island alone. He was going to shut us all out.
