I really didn't sleep last night, the bed felt extremely lonely without Derek. I tried my hardest to sleep. When the sun started peaking over the horizon, I finally gave up on the battle. I got up and got dressed in yoga pants and t-shirt. This sports bra was uncomfortable, I did not like needing to have one of those. Aunt Lauren wasn't awake yet so I quickly changed on my side of the room. I didn't feel hungry, I just wanted to move. I went to step out the door but stopped. Aunt Lauren would go nuts thinking the worst of me as soon as she saw I wasn't in bed. I grabbed a scrap piece of paper from the comic book sketches that were left in my room and wrote Aunt Lauren a note.
'I haven't run off. Don't freak out. I'm out back behind the house getting some exercise.'
I left it on her side of the nightstand and left the room. I ducked through the house quickly and out the back door. I was lost deep in thought I pulled my hair back into a ponytail that I walked right into a wall of flesh.
"Someone's pretty zoned out," Matt smiled at me. "I almost spilled my coffee."
"What are you doing up so early?" I asked.
"I could ask you the same question, this isn't running away gear. Just running gear."
"I have energy to burn off."
Matt leaned back against the railing, "And do you know how to?"
"Exercising," I said like it was obvious.
Matt nodded slowly, "Yeah but do you know how to? It can go way beyond pushups and running laps. You can learn to tune up parts of your body so you can fight better."
"Is that an offer?" I asked.
"Only if you're serious about it. I don't waste my time on people just trying to have fun."
I nodded, "I would be serious."
Matt set his coffee down, "Lesson one, what are you?"
"What? I'm a necromancer."
Matt frowned and picked his coffee and newspaper back up like he was heading inside.
"Where are you going?"
"I said this was for serious people only. If you're going to lie about something so simple, how can I teach you? We all saw you as a wolf, we all have heard you aunts' rantings. Everyone knows you're a werewolf."
"I didn't know everyone saw," I said.
Matt set his things down again, "I'll ask again. What species are you?"
"I'm a werewolf and a necromancer."
"Say it with more confidence," Matt said.
"I'm a werewolf and a necromancer," I said with more confidence and pride.
Matt nodded, "Those can be two very powerful beings if their powers are harnessed correctly. Especially with your enhancements. But first you should get more physically powerful in case you need to fight hand to hand."
I followed Matt down the stairs and out into the yard, I had no idea my day was going to take this turn.
