He hiccuped as he tried to get himself under control as his older brother knelt beside him and examined the bloody wound.
Six years old and a brand new bike, Alan had been showing off to his only present brother - and partner in crime - when the gravel betrayed him. The resultant high-speed crash had left him with a lovely lacerated and gravel burned leg.
"Yeah, you're gonna have a scar that'll match Scotty's!'
Tears forgotten, Alan grinned. If he matched his hero then any pain was worth it.
