Chloe POV

I think I blacked out at some point during their procedure yesterday because I don't remember too much. I was now laying on my prison bed staring up at the ceiling. I was terrified to move and break the stitches. They told me this morning that the procedure was about adrenal glands. They produce hormones that a person needs to be able to live, but werewolves had an extra adrenal gland that they believed was devoted purely to adrenaline production, allowing werewolves to have their bursts of strength and anger. They believed removing my extra gland would help calm me down so they could start what they called 'the real fun.'

It is impossible to just change someone's DNA, you would have to go cell by cell changing each strand. That's why they did this to us before we were born, we only had one set of DNA. We were only one cell at the beginning.

These scientists were trying to find a way to mix magic and science and be able to manipulate all my DNA at once. I told myself I doubted they could do it but I honestly wasn't so sure. Ariah let it slip that they had gotten some of Derek's DNA off of my old clothes and were using that to try to find and isolate the werewolf gene so they knew what part to remove from me.

The door opened and ripped me from my train of thoughts. Aunt Lauren stepped in.

"How are you feeling?" She asked.

"Screw you," I replied.

"They're helping you become human," Aunt Lauren frowned. "Can't you see that?"

"I don't want to be human," I said.

"Sweetie, it's already working. You aren't trying to attack me right now."

"Maybe that's because I don't want to rip my stitches," I pointed out.

Aunt Lauren shrugged, "That could be part of it yes, but its also you don't have as much adrenaline in your system anymore. You're body is being forced to calm down."

"Until my powers are pent up," I murmured.

Aunt Lauren sighed, she must have hoped that the procedure would be enough for me to see that she was doing what was right for me. But my spirit wasn't broken yet.

"You get to choose your dinner tonight," she said. "What would you like?"

"I'm not hungry," I said.

"Well you don't have a werewolves appetite anymore. But you still need to eat."

I shrugged, "Why does it matter if I decide. You guys obviously are making all the decisions here."

"I want to give you some sense of control," Aunt Lauren admitted.

"Mac n cheese like Mom used to make," I said.

"Ok sweetie," she smiled she went to step out but not before saying. "I love you Chloe."

"I hate you too," I replied as the door shut and latched.

I didn't do anything for the next few hours, not that there was much to do in this jail cell. I just stared at the ceiling, hope chipping away by the hour. I was never going to get out of here as a supernatural. There was no escape. There was no one coming to save me.

Simon's POV

Dad was absolutely furious with us when we had to tell him about the Alpha. We couldn't suggest going to him, and knowing where it was, without giving him the whole story. Dad had all the right to be furious with us and made that very clear. He was clearly unhappy about having to go there to check for Chloe. I would go so far as to say Dad was happy that Chloe was gone. Not his problem anymore. Whether she left by choice or not. But he saw what he absence was doing to Derek and knew he needed to come with us and keep an eye on him.

Dad and I switched between driving, Derek and Tess were of no use in their condition. They were on the verge of changing and the added stress of going to a pack territory made it even worse. Tess was obviously scared out of her wits to go to a pack territory. It had been a decade or more since she last did. They weren't her taste. But she wanted Chloe safe desperately and trucked through the anxiety. Derek on the other hand denied that he was a wreck. Even though it was obvious. He spasmed and twitched and sweat but kept saying that he was fine whenever I tried to ask if he was okay.

We drove for hours and hours. The roads seemed like they would never end. Not that this was supposed to be a pleasant road trip or something. I ended up being the one in the drivers seat when we finally arrived at our destination. They all gawked at the well kept mansion.

"Let me go first, they've met me before," I said and unbuckled my seat belt.

Derek grabbed my wrist from the backseat.

"Like hell you're going alone," he growled.

"Its a house of werewolves," Dad agreed with Derek. "and you're a human."

I pulled my hand from Derek's grip.

"Stay," I said at the three of them.

They fired more protests as I got out of the car but didn't follow me. I walked up to the door and knocked.

After a minute that seemed to stretch forever, the same man as before opened the door.

"The werewolf's brother," he said and stepped aside.

"Long time no see," I tipped an invisible hat to him and stepped inside.

As I took my shoes off a beautiful woman came up and greeted me.

"Hello!" She beamed.

"Hi Sylvia," I smiled.

She blushed, "Oh how kind of you to remember my name. What are you here for?"

"I'm here for Chloe," I said. "We think she might have been brought to Nate because its his time of the month to lose it."

Sylvia gasped, "Nate is downstairs in the storage room. He took precautions not to hurt anyone."

I blinked, "So Chloe isn't here?"

She shook her head, "No my dear, I'm afraid not." She smelled the air. "You're not here alone."

I shook my head, "No, my family is out in the car. We need to find Chloe before something happens to her."

Sylvia quickly gestured for me to put my shoes back on. Worry in her expression now.

"She's not here. Quickly now, you must go. The son is not to be here when Nate is in this state. Someone's going to get hurt."
