It was conflicting meeting these other hostages of the Edison Group. They were right that the human interaction was making me feel better and more like myself. But at the same time, that feeling better lead to guilt. I felt a lot of guilt not being with Derek and Simon and all them. I missed them more than I can describe.
Now I sat in my cell. I kept feeling a twitch in my wrist which was weird. I'd never felt that before, was it a change symptom? Was I having a nervous twitch? Or were my pent up powers starting to manifest? I tried my best to ignore it and sleep. The bright overhead light made that impossible though.
"Can't we turn the damn light off?" I shouted at nothing.
I laid on my stomach, buried my head in my blanket and eventually fell asleep in my makeshift darkness.
I was woken sometime later by the scalpel doctor entering my cell loudly.
"Get away from me!" I screamed at him. Wrist still shaking under the blanket.
The doctor made a tsk tsk sound while shaking his head before speaking. "Seems like our procedure didn't have the effects we wanted, it was just the recovery holding you down."
He leaned against the wall trying to appear more casual.
"How are you feeling Ms. Saunders."
With the door open, I caught the scent of Aunt Lauren somewhere nearby. Whether the scent was an old trail or new I couldn't tell. But I knew just how to answer to see if she was listening.
I shrugged, "I've been better. It's Ms. Souza though."
"Oh," the doctor said in genuine surprise.
There was the sound of something slamming in the hallway. I smirked, she had been just out of sight. The doctor excused himself for a minute and left to have a hushed conversation.
He came back in with Aunt Lauren and one other person I hadn't met yet.
Rage filled her eyes but her voice remained gentle, "So you are feeling better?"
I shrugged, "Your pain killers didn't do a damn thing so that really sucked. Now that I'm healed though, it's fine." I looked down at my twitchy wrist. "The other kids told me that you're getting successes with them."
The doctor nodded, "Yes, they are becoming human."
"What'll happen to them after?" I asked.
They knew what I was asking though, what'll happen to me after they figure me out?
"They will be released back into the world under supervision. We can't have them going around blabbing about what we've done so we need to keep an eye on them."
Aunt Lauren shot him a look like he had said too much. She nodded at the third person in the room."
"Go ahead," she said.
The lady produced a little blood draw kit she had been holding by her side.
"No!" I backed up.
"Chloe don't make this difficult," Aunt Lauren warned.
"No," I repeated growling.
Aunt Lauren stepped up to me. I pressed myself against the wall but continued to growl. She grabbed me by my hair and forced me to sit back on the bed. Aunt Lauren held onto my hair and one of my arms while the other woman took vials of blood from my other arm.
Simon's POV
"But he's ok," I said. "He didn't freak from the proximity like he did last time. He's just trying not to change."
Sylvia pushed me towards the door, "He will see his son as a threat. You need to get them out of here now."
There was a low growl from behind us. We whipped around and were face to face with Nate. The Alpha.
"So Derek is finally back, is he?" He smiled. "Well what are we waiting for? Send him in."
Nate whistled and the door opened to show my family in the grips of werewolves. Only one was holding Dad, he must have cooperated. Two were holding back Derek who was still struggling against them. Tess looked half conscious from fighting off changing, being held up by one werewolf.
"Bring them to the dining room," Nate commanded.
He laid a hand on my shoulder as they walked by. A silent warning not to try anything.
Sylvia glances at me worried. Once they were all in the dining room, Nate motioned for me to follow him in. I did.
"We aren't here to cause problems," I told him. "We came looking for Chloe. Someone's taken her."
Nate stopped in the door and turned to me, "Excuse me?"
"We aren't a threat," I pleaded for him to understand. "I know Chloe's not part of your pack but if you could just let us go-"
Nate interrupted me, "Of course she is part of my pack. She's in my bloodline."
"Help us find her then," I begged.
Nate looked around at everyone, "Give me some quality time with my son and I will."
He waved for the two werewolves to back off of Derek. They obeyed.
"Hell no-" Dad yelled. He tried to stand from his seat by a werewolf held him down.
"It's fine," Derek said quietly. "I'll do it."
"Derek," Dad and I said.
"It means finding Chloe. I'm doing it," Derek stood from his chair.
The two of them left the room. I looked at Sylvia helplessly.
She just shrugged and said, "That's werewolves for you."
