Simon's POV
I'll be honest that Derek leaving with Nate to god knows where, worried me. What was Nate going to do? Was he in control? Was he going to try to hurt Derek again? But there was nothing I could do about it; it was Derek's decision and when he made one, especially those involving Chloe, they were final.
"How long are we going to sit here waiting?" I asked him.
Dad shrugged; he was wondering the same question.
Derek's POV
I followed my father down the hallway. He stopped at a door that lead down to the basement, gesturing for me to enter first. This whole thing made my skin crawl with anxiety, but I did as he said. Walking down the stairs, the basement was the complete opposite of the rest of the house. It was dirty and unfinished. Random objects and boxes laid about with no organization.
Nate lead me to the corner of the basement where three metal chairs and a small metal table sat.
"Have a seat," he told me.
I sat down on guard, very stiff.
Nate sat and leaned towards me. It felt like his eyes were piercing me to my very soul.
"You and I better not have a problem. Got it?" Nate growled softly. "I got rid of you for a reason, I already have enough bull to deal with around here. I don't need you running things behind my back."
Chloe's POV
I stared at my hands, "Stop twitching. Stop twitching."
"What's she mumbling to herself?" Rachel asked from the couch.
Whichever boy she asked shrugged in response. I tried to keep to myself mostly around these guys. The conversations were nice but I didn't want to make friends and get attached. That would just lead to heartbreak if something happened to one of them. And I couldn't afford that right now, I needed to get out of here. How? I have no clue. But I know I need to. They had my blood and they had successes. I was doomed...
I pictured Liz and Kyle and trying to pull them forward mentally. Tugging on them. But nothing happened.
I leaned back in the chair utterly frustrated. My powers were getting pent up, I was turning into a ticking time bomb. I needed to use them.
Jeremy sat down beside me, making me jump.
"Whoa, calm down," he raised his hands. "I just wanted to see if you were ok."
"No," I said. "I can't use my powers because of them and it's not going to end well. It's like a magic damn, I'm going to crack if I don't get an outlet soon."
Jeremy settled into the seat, "Well if you crack, I hope you crack this place wide open in the process. I'd love to get out of here and see the world."
I was just astonished with this group, "How can you guys not hate the Edison Group for what they've done to you? How can you be so relaxed about the fact they changed your species?"
Jeremy shrugged, "Because I can't do anything to change it. It's better when you accept it instead of fight it. Embrace your humanity instead of deny it."
I shook my head, I understood his reasoning but didn't at the same time.
"Whatever you say," I shrugged. "But I'm not going human without a fight. As difficult as it's been, I like who I am."
Rachel looked over at me, seeing an opportunity to jab.
"Yeah I bet it's been hard to deal with the fact you'll be away from your Mate for the rest of your life."
I gripped the table. How dare she talk about Derek.
"Shut up," I growl.
"Aw the girls still got some spunk left in her." She cooed. "I guess they haven't broken you yet." Then she added. "I bet they'll break your Mate if he comes sniffing for you."
I shot up from my seat and slammed my hands on the table.
"I swear to god-" I roared.
But I couldn't finish the sentence, I was shaking all over. Rachel noticed.
"Looks like someone really did need to be locked up."
I lunged for her but only made it a foot before something hit the back of my neck and everything turned to black.
