One day John woke up and had lost his voice.
Overuse, the medics said.
Rest and it will ease.
It did not.
Three weeks passed. Time to see a specialist.
Virgil flew them to see the otolaryngologist who poked and used a camera.
The answer was sobering.
Polyps. Several both vocal cords. Caused by vocal misuse and overuse. By his job.
Treatment was discussed and booked for the next day. Microsurgery, then voice therapy. The doctors were quietly confident it wouldn't have long term effects on John's ability to do his job
Unless the polyps turned out to be cancerous.
