They were on the move.
Scott worried where Alan was but he couldn't see him.
They entered an open-plan area with chairs dotted around. Scott could see a van waiting outside and knew he couldn't get in if he wanted to be rescued.
He stopped.
'Move or I'll shoot you.'
Scott didn't. The safety clicked off.
'You willing to die? Fine.'
A blur barrelled into him.
The gun fired.
And Alan lay there, bleeding.
Two steps and the man was down.
'Alan!'
'Knew you were in trouble.'
'You shouldn't have done that.'
'My turn to save you.'
Alan fell limp.
