Derek's POV
I ran to Nate to see what he was calling me for. He was standing in the doorway of a cell, as I came up, he joined Ron in opening the next one. As soon as my eye line entered the cell room, all the commotion around me melted away. There sat Chloe, pressed against the back wall. She had a look of confused terror until her eyes landed on me.
"Derek?"
I think she didn't believe that I was really standing there. Just like I didn't believe I finally got her. Someone yelled at me from the hallway but I didn't notice. I stepped into the room.
"Chloe," I said.
She stood up slowly, "I'm hallucinating."
I shook my head, "No, its really me."
Chloe took a hesitant step forward. Then dashed at me, wrapping her arms around me in a hug. I hugged her back tightly.
"I didn't know if you were ever coming," she said into my shirt.
"Of course I was coming, Chloe," I said. "I've been looking for you every day."
I let go of her and grabbed her hand instead, walking back out to the hallway.
"A little help?" Tori snapped at me.
I finally burst my happy little bubble of finding Chloe and looked around. The Edison Group was upon us, Tori was holding off this door with her magic and Simon and Nate were using physical strength to keep the other door shut. The hallway was filled with scared, confused, subjects. I pushed Chloe behind me protectively.
"Listen up," I said to the subjects. "We're here to bust you out. But we need your help."
Some of the people still stood around confused but a good amount of them came to their senses and realized what was going on. They went to the doors and helped barricade.
"We can't sit here forever," Sylvia said over the chaos. "We need to get out of here."
I turned to Chloe, "Can you summon anything that's outside?"
She shook her head. "My powers won't work inside."
I looked around for something to do. Chloe pointed up. The vents! I picked her up so she could reach it and open the vent. It murdered my injured shoulder but one by one, I helped up people as fast as I could. The one guy who questioned Simon and me earlier, came up, I extended a hand to help lift him.
"I'm not leaving without Chloe," he said.
I immediately put two and two together, this was the guy from the couch.
"Hell no!"
Chloe stepped up, "I can help if I get outside. I should go with."
I growled, I just got her back I wasn't going to let her out of my sight.
"Please," Chloe asked. "I can't stand here being useless."
There were clicks coming from the other side of the doors. Guns.
"Fine," I growled.
I helped her up first, then the guy. I looked around, unsure if anyone else heard the clicks.
"Down!" I shouted.
The guns started firing, I ducked into the nearest cell, hoping everyone got out of the way in time.
"Tori!" I shouted.
"Working on it!" She shouted back.
There was a flash of light and the sound of a bomb going off. Followed by silence. I stepped out of the cell. Tori had just released a whole bunch of magic energy and blown away the doors. All the people on the other sides of the doors laid unconscious on the ground.
"Move!" Nate grabbed me by the back of my shirt. "Stop standing around like a useless drone."
I started running with the group and subjects that I hadn't helped yet.
"Where's Chloe?!" Simon asked between breaths as we ran.
"With the others," I huffed.
"Where are they?" Nate butt in.
"Vents," I said. "Hopefully outside by now."
We heard voices up ahead and stopped. There was an echo of metal slamming.
"That's them," I said. They left the vent early.
Simon protested and tried to grab me as I ran ahead but I brushed past him too fast.
"Chloe?" I ran up through the group and to her. "What are you still doing inside?"
"The vent ended at the courtyard," Chloe said. "We couldn't go any further."
I looked back at Nate, "How far are we from an exit?"
He shrugged. I looked around, no one knew.
"Simon, get Kit on the phone," I was trying my best to take charge.
Chloe picked up on me not saying Dad but knew that now was obviously not the time to question.
Chloe's POV
"Simon, get Kit on the phone," Derek commanded.
Derek called his Dad, Kit. I know I've been gone for a bit but that wasn't usual.
I saw the door to the courtyard and pushed my way through people to it. If I could get outside I could use some powers to help.
"Hey!" Derek called after me and followed.
I opened the door with ease, the security systems must be down.
I stepped outside and people folllowed me into the courtyard.
Derek tried to direct them to use their powers, little did he know most all of us were human. I started searching the area for any dead bodies but they were careful with us it seemed. I couldn't find any.
Gun shots came again. Derek yelled at Tori.
She snapped at him, "My magic is not endless! I can't do that again."
I grabbed Tori's hand, "Use me."
"What?" Derek did not like the sound of that.
Even though there was nothing in range, I started summoning. Pulling in necromancy magic. Tori caught on and started pulling on my magic.
"Chloe! Stop!" Derek and Simon didn't like the looks of what was going on.
Tori pulled on my magic and the ground started to shake. It felt just like when the demon was released from the last Edison Building.
